a bloody drink on a coaster

Why go to a neighborhood pub if it isn't your neighborhood? Up North Pub is a throwback to a time when people went to bars to drink, watch a game and drink some more when the home team scores- a contrast to the "sports bar" as we know it today. There is the near mandatory "21+" gaming area, network juke box and "sharps" dart board. We were commenting that if they had a pinball game it would be the ideal entertainment destination. Up North Pub has a good selection of daily specials including $2 domestic drafts on Thursday night. Recently at a Bears vs Packers Thursday night football game, the management treated patrons to Leno's party sandwiches and snacks. There was more than enough to go around so that everyone was satisfied. Up North Pub has a good selection of imported and domestic bottled beers and a few favorites such as Miller Lite and PBR on draft. Yes, it's a bit of a rowdy place, and yes it's a neighborhood bar so if you're not from the 'hood you may get stared at. Suck it up buttercup, order a draft beer and enjoy the game of the day. Before long you will feel right at home.

Great beer at very affordable prices! And they're open on Christmas Eve! Lol

Booner's Place is better than it looks when entering. Kind of divey but cleaner inside. The prices are pretty cheap mostly. Basic looking bar. It's actually bigger than it appears from the outside. There's enough room for big groups and parties. Has basically just lots of drinks. There's some beers on tap and lots more in bottles and cans, so great variety. It's about $6 for a basic cocktail. There's a pretty okay choice of liquors. Has no food menu basically. They may have those frozen pizzas. For sure it's better than expected. It's located on Washington Street at Jefferson. This is mostly chill except when there's games or music on they have a few times.

Here are some of the highlights. - The neighborhood is in transition but not a real problem. - Lots of parking, it's OK to park in the school lot across the street. - NO COVER CHARGE for a well-known blues band popular in the greater Chicagoland area performing on a weekend. Unheard of. - The female bartenders are HOT HOT HOT and they had very sexy and cute uniforms. Each one smiled a lot and took care of drink orders QUICK. They were even nice when my guest switched to drinking water later in the evening. - Drink prices were about what you'd pay for a place with no entertainment, but with the benefit of entertainment! - Not too crowded, a nice crowd for a Saturday night. - Classy decoration inside the bar and comfortable seating. - Diverse crowd from 20-somethings to over 40's. Seemed like lots of singles and by and large friendly mid to upscale people. I didn't observe a SINGLE negative about this place (OK - the band stand could be elevated a bit so people could see them better) and I would be happy to go back again sometime when they have a band or maybe just show up to watch a game. It's obvious by the attitude of the employees that management knows how to best treat customers and have people leave with a positive memory of their night out. Trust me- don't be intimidated by the rough exterior, give them a try and judge for yourself.

For sure it's nothing fancy. There's pretty slow ass service but there's also fun times. Bar had a few people in it but we found seats and got menus. It's got about what you expect with okay prices. There's nothing to eat really that good but it's not bad though. Bar has TVs so usually it's okay watching games awhile. It's about $7 for a basic cocktail. The usual stuff like Jameson. It's about $8 for an appetizer. The Pretzel Bites were simple yet still took a long time. Basic things with cheese or mustard. They were slow again getting our bill so it was even more of a wait. Finally they brought it and we could leave. There weren't even many customers in there. Imagine what it's like when it's busy. This isn't the place to go if in a hurry. Has a pretty nondescript location by some auto garages. It's got a pretty basic menu with greasy things including pizza. This is located at the intersection of Glen Flora Avenue and Walnut.

When you think of wings at most bars, you expect something decent, maybe a little too breaded,…read moremaybe drowning in sauce, good enough with a drink but nothing unforgettable. Glen Flora is not that. These wings genuinely outclass the usual bar standard, and they do it without trying too hard. The first thing that stands out is the crisp. Not a thick, heavy crust, just a light coating that gives you that clean crunch when you bite in. A lot of places overdo it and hide the chicken under batter. Here, the texture actually works with the meat instead of covering it up. And once you get past that crisp exterior, the chicken is seriously juicy. Tender, flavorful, and cooked the way wings are supposed to be. The hot BBQ sauce tastes exactly how good barbecue should: smoky, a little sweet, familiar in the best way. But the heat is what makes it special. It doesn't overpower. It lifts everything. The spice sharpens the sweetness and makes the smokiness pop a little more. It feels balanced, like someone actually thought about the flavor What surprised me most? I was there with a few friends, and normally that's all laughs and conversation. But once those wings hit the table, I caught myself zoning out, focused on what was in front of me. I was in my own little world. And at $1 per wing, it almost feels unfair. I ordered 15... and honestly? I should've ordered more. These aren't just "good for bar wings." They're just good. Crisp, juicy, balanced, and way better than you expect walking in. Rating: 8.7/10

North Avenue Tap ironically has more beers in bottles and cans if one can believe that. Mostly there's a few regulars in here. The place may look kind of ramshackle, but it's charming in its own way you can say. A neighborhood watering hole is a good way to describe it. It's pretty basic with about what you expect as far as atmosphere and what people are ordering. There's pretty much the big brands, and they only have a few of these on tap. A lot more in bottles and cans. It's about $3 for a tallboy of Old Style. As for the food, it's basic greasy stuff if they even have anything. There's a fryer and grill, but we have never seen these used. I wouldn't trust eating anything here anyway. That's okay if they just keep it all off. Chill place to have beers. It's obviously located on North Avenue, with two entrances. They have things like taco nights, and outside there's fun things like cornhole when it gets warmer.

I ordered a Miller Lite and barkeeper said she was having problems with the Miller handle and I said ok and ordered a Bud Light and she comes to the table with a bottle of Miller Lite. I asked her to please turn down the volume of the juke box which she did for one song. It was turned up to the original setting. Finally, we get our food and the volume was turned up about twice as loud. I took my sandwich and ate it outside. My wife told me that a lot of the patrons were complaining but the sound was not lowered. To the owners of this bar, we will not be back. This happened on Thursday, April 17 right at the shift change at about 6:00 pm.
