I tried their dinner during a trip to London. The food was 4-star experience with some amazing dishes and some misses. The service here was excellent. We ordered beet salad, artichoke dip, crab cakes, Kang's fiery pork and Smokey BBQ lime chicken. All of the dishes were categorized as appetizers but they were main dish sizes! It's hard to imagine with $30+ per person, you can enjoy a fancy meal with attentive service these days. Unlike many other restaurants in GTA, this place doesn't charge you money for bread and the quality is so good. I really like the soft butter with good scent. The beet salad with goat was quite refreshing. The artichoke dip was flavourful too. The pork is tender and flavourful (spicy). Strongly recommend these three dishes. I didn't like the crab cake which doesn't have much crab flavour and the texture of which is weird too. The chicken is dry too. The server was offering to replace our chicken dish with something else when he heard the dish was so-so (although we didn't ask him to switch it). We were so satisfied with the environment and service here that we wanted to revisit during the rest of our trip if they were opening on those days. we started off with the traditional garlic and artichoke dip. unfortunately luke warm again. It's now a 35% chance it wont be hot coming out. Definitely do better on that because its a great app which i get every time i come. Our entrees were amazing. I don't know if they got a new chef, but I was blown away by the tenderlion i had. This is a 4.5 star review, 4 for food and 5 for exceptional service. We discovered this little gem in downtown London from Yelp. Came here with my wife, 4-year-old son, and mother while on a weekend trip. The restaurant was not too busy at 6 pm on a Saturday. We were seated at a table, but there is also counter seating at the bar with TVs The cuisine here is Canadian fusion, with the bulk of the menu being "appetizers". These are effectively sports bar size shareable appy's at 15-18 each. We ordered 1 salad and 4 appy's to share: - Beet and chevre salad. This is a blend of sweet red beets and sour yellow beets mixed with rockets, pistachios, and goat cheese. Very refreshing for a hot summer day and the pistachios really brought the dish together. - Garlic and artichoke dip. Dip is served piping hot right out of the oven. There is beautiful browning on top and a hint of spiciness in the dip. One of the most popular items at our table. - Crab cakes. Served with "Asian slaw" which is like coleslaw but with better veggies (like bell peppers). The crab cakes themselves were nothing special, but the sauce was excellent. - Smokey BBQ lime chicken. This dish was a bit of a miss. The BBQ sauce was good, but the chicken was tough and overshadowed by too much onions in the little bowl. There was a separate bowl with Cajun wild rice which was nice, and a small serving of waffle chips which were awesome. - Kang's fiery pork. This is Korean style (sweet and hot) sliced pork tenderloin on a bed of spatzle (Hungarian pasta). They're not kidding with the fiery in the name. Excellent dish if you like spicy. Pork is juicy and tender. And of course I can't forget about the bread! It came with a lemon garlic butter which is a great way to change up what is otherwise something very ordinary. Enough about the food. 4 stars - great sauces, good fusion of flavours, but some misses. On to the service - 5 stars. It's been a while since I've been to a restaurant where the staff were so very attentive. I dropped a knife and before I knew it there was someone next to me with a new set of cutlery without me even asking. When I mentioned the issue with the chicken our waiter offered to replace it with another dish (we didn't take them up on it - the chips were great and the chicken was just not as good as the other dishes). Maybe I've been in Toronto too long I've gotten used to being insulted by the wait staff (see some of my 1-star reviews for more) that it's so refreshing to get proper service in a "full service restaurant". On our day trip to London Ontario, looking for a place for lunch., we decided to chose a restaurant on Richmond Street. However, the place was closed on a Tuesday afternoon. We decided to choose another place in the area and came upon The Tasting Room. We mentioned to our server that we were just looking for some snacks .... since we were not that hungry yet. And he made us feel so comfortable and not pressure to order more!! We start off with The Aperol Gin Sour to go along with a few apps. It was very refreshing and not too sweet which is just how I like it!! Since there was two of us... thought we would order a few apps, we ordered Kangs Fiery Pork on($18) which is marinated in a spicy sauce .. really not all that spicy for me but it was delicious. It's all also served with a sesame cilantro Spaetzel (a German type pasta) which was a great compliment. We also ordered the Truffle fries ($6) ... such a good deal. I enjoyed it so much... the fries were served piping hot with a nice fragrant truffle and topped with Pecorino Cheese. Only thing, the fries were served in a metal cone shaped container, so the fries at the top had all the pecorino lol cheese but when we hit the fries in the middle, it was just plain. I asked if they could give more cheese for the fries in the middle. Amazing.... they surprised me with a new batch of fresh hot fries with lots of cheese. And the server came with an extra dish of shaved pecorino. Such a nice touch ....thanks so much! Great service here! We really enjoyed our server who was working by himself but was attentive and so pleasant. If you are visiting London, I recommend you visit The Tasting Room. I recently visited London for work and boy does this city have some fantastic options for food. On our last night we walked to this restaurant from our hotel as parking can be a bit of a challenge since it doesn't have a parking lot. In town on business working for the university and I was doing some Yelp'ing. I tried to go to The Church Key, but they were closed for renovations so I looked across the street and boom... The Tasting Room. So I walked in once then came back 3 more times that very same week. I'm glad The Church Key was closed because I may not have experienced this place at all. Here's why I love it... Atmosphere/Appearance: This place isn't big and it isn't too small. It's not even medium, but maybe a smidge smaller. Lol. The restaurant is so mature, a bit elegant and homey. The bar rail is nice and high and there are quite a few tables on the opposite. The lighting is dim and the decor is light. I like it. Service: Ryan was the first guy who took care of me. He's there on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. He was my favorite of the 3 bartenders that took care of me throughout the week. He was sweet, charismatic and SUPER friendly. He even offered to hang out with me and show me around the town. I really appreciated that. Ryan, Paul and Reed all were excellent bartenders who gave me everything I needed and made awesome recommendations. I appreciate all of them. Food: I was able to try 2 of their wine flights. Both the Cabernet and the Sauvignon Blanc were very delicious, but I was able to customize my flight (Reed warned me about doing this on busy nights) and found that I LOVED the Lost Angels Cabernet from California (how fitting) and the Darling Cellars Sauvignon Blanc from South Africa. Now for the food. I'm going to go over everything in the order I had them. The Lamb Sliders were absolutely incredible. They were my favorite of the 8 food options I got the chance to try. They were a bit salty, but my goodness they were flavorful and oh-so delicious. The Tuna Loin was very good as well and the salad it came with was WONDERFULLY fresh! I loved it... just wish more tuna came on the plate. It was an appetizer though so... yeah. Ryan recommended the Kalbi Kui saying it was his favorite, so I tried it and could easily see why. It's Korean style short ribs grilled and served with a spiced cabbage slaw along side a sriracha aioli that was super flavorful as well as lean. The aioli was a bit overpowering, but was still a good addition to the meat. The Duck Drummettes were a confit crisped and tossed with a Kung Pao glaze served with crunchy slaw. I really liked the flavors that all came together. I still had a bit of room left so I asked Paul if I should try the Crab Cakes or the Lobster Lollipops. I'm glad he suggested the crab cakes because they were delectable. I felt like I was in Baltimore getting crab right on the harbor! Amazing. The next day I did try the lollipops and I see why Paul went against them. They weren't that good. It felt like more filling than lobster. They were very sweet, but okay. I wouldn't get them again. I tried Kang's Fiery Pork as well and it was very delicious. It was similar to the Kalbi Kui, but was a different cut of meat. Also very good. You can't seem to go wrong here... unless it's the lobster lollipops. Lol. Last, but not least... I tried the Pan Seared Scallop Salad. I know seafood is light and I hadn't eaten all day so I added a salmon filet to it. Everything was... you guessed it... good. The meats were cooked well, the pecans added a great sweet crunch and the bleu cheese added a good twangy flavor. Like I said, the food here is fantastic. I look forward to trying some of the actual entrees on their menu since these were all appetizers. My order: 1) Beef Tenderloin Carpaccio 2) Crab and Lobster Stuffed Chicken His order: 1) Seared Ahi Tuna Loin 2) Herb-Parmesan Crusted 1/2 Rack of Lamb Having never tried beef sashimi before, I was thoroughly impressed by my appetizer. The presentation and flavours were both of top quality. My chicken was done well, but the crab and lobster did not quite embody the flavours I expected. The tuna was seared beautifully, and was a more savoury appetizer. We asked for the lamb to be cooked at a medium, and the chef did a good job of not overcooking it. My friends and I came here for a birthday dinner one weekend and had a great time! Our server was very friendly and took the time to explain the menu and specials to us. The atmosphere of the place was nice despite the dark lighting. I know the Tasting Room is known for their appetizers, but my friends and I all ordered a main and split a few apps. Their lobster poutine was very delicious but the portion size was quite small and there were only 2-3 pieces of lobster in it. The portion sizes of the mains definitely made up for it though. I ordered the pork tenderloin with a side of loaded mash and it was very flavorful! The portion of the tenderloin was so hefty that I barely touched my mashed potatoes. The sauce that they served with this dish was also great. My friends ordered a variety of mains (blue ribbon chicken, lobster stuffed chicken, steak, etc.) and they were all quite pleased as well. Wow just wow. I didn't think I would find a place this good in London. The bread was great, soft and had the perfect spread that went with it. The drinks were strong, I went with a mango drink that was fantastic. The appetizer which was a tuna thing (no idea but was so good) could feed 4 people and was perfect for a glutton like me. Visited on a Sunday, around 1:15 pm. Parking (nearby) may be a challenge depending on time of day, but theres lots and street parking within a decent walking distance. Our group of 3 didn't have reservations, but were lucky enough to get a table at the front. It seemed like most of the tables in the dining area were filled with groups, with some spaces at the bar area. Ordered the steak and frites (medium rare), while my friends ordered the Linguini Amatriciana and the Seafood Pasta. Food came within a reasonable time, and our water was always filled. At first the dishes looked a bit small, but they are deceptively filling. The steak had a nice char to it with a slight hint of spices. The frites were crispy and were not overly salty (phew!). The white truffle aioli was so good that I put it with the steak....Not sure if I could have asked for more but I would have done so if possible! What is holding me back from an even higher rating was the consistency of the steak, which was medium rare at first, and when the waiter specifically came around to check on it - THANKS!, and was more on the rare side for half of the striploin. That being said, it still was not overly tough and was very satisfying. The two pasta dishes looked great as well, shoutout to the seafood pasta! Looked like there was tons of mussels and salmon (among other seafood) and my friend was quite filled afterward. My most recent visit was for my mom's birthday. I really like going here because I know the food quality is solid and there is a great selection of dishes, especially their appetizers to fulfill the tasting room aspect. I always want to order the lobster lollipops and bacon wrapped scallops. This time I got lobster poutine. I was a bit leery of the bearnaise sauce and it did sweeten the dish but not overly so. It helped that the fries were rustic shoestring and cooked perfectly. I would first like to say that the food and service was good. Friendly people all around and I will likely go back. That being said, there is a lot of room to finesse and elevate the "tasting" experience that is the namesake of the restaurant. First, while we waited for our table at the bar (we arrived a little earlier than our reservation), I ordered a glass of persecco. What I was served was a mini bottle of Henkell Trocken - NOT THE SAME THING!!! And the bartender didn't even say anything like "we don't have perseco, but can I offer you this instead?" Which I would of declined and asked for a mixed cocktail as an alternative. Me and my friend each ordered a tasting flight (4 different wines which probably totals about 9 ounces) - Me=Cabernet, friend = Sauvignon Blanc. We were told when served that the wines were placed I order of mild to most full bodied and that's where the experience ended. No additional information about the wines. Nothing about what we might taste, smell or grape characteristics or method of making. It fell flat in my opinion. It would of been great to build the relationship with the server and have a conversation about the wines. My flight of reds lacked the progression the server initially spoke of. All 4 were light to medium body with very little distinction between each. They were all good, don't get me wrong but again, no real transition between them. On to the food. It was really tasty and the flavors promised on the menu were delivered. We decided to order four appetizers to share instead of entrees. I recommend this as you get to try more food and get a sense of the menu inspiration. However at one point, we had 3 full appetizer dishes on our table. Again, this "tasting" experience could of been better if one dish was served at a time. With better communication between the servers and kitchen team, this would not only upgrade the diner's experience, it might also resonate in a larger bill. Thinks bout it... We would of been more inclined to order another appetizer or desserts or aperitifs if we didn't see THREE plates of food in front of us at a time thinking we have already over indulged. It's a mental game, you know. In fact this is a proven point because we didn't order anything else but went to another place for dessert. Back to flight of wines... The server never asked how we enjoyed it or if we had a favourite. Think about it - if the server came by and was part of the experience and talked to us about our favourite, and followed up with "perhaps you might want to have a full glass of the Italian with your next course" - again, increasing the bill. We stumbled onto this restaurant when the place we'd meant to go was only serving a full brunch. We weren't that hungry and were looking for a sandwich or a salad. The Tasting Room was just right. I had the turkey melt. It was the comfort food I was looking for without being bland. The bread was crusty, warm and fresh. The ingredients were also fresh and generously proportioned. I chose the garden salad for my side. It was the now ubiquitous mixed greens but the dressing was good without being too bold and was lightly applied. My spouse had the seafood pasta. The salmon and shell fish were as fresh as if we were sea-side. The pasta sauce a gentle compliment that supported rather than fought with the fish. The serving was generous! We ate lunch at 2:30 so we were one of only 2 tables and the service was terrific! All in all I wish I lived much closer to London than I do because I would definitely be back. read more

Mixed reviews for this place. I think the service was kind of bad, the food was overall good, the ambiance was great. Came here for date night on a Saturday evening, without reservations. That was a bit of a mistake - anyone who came in without a reservation was told by the hostess that the restaurant was full. She didn't ask to take any names down, didn't offer a wait list, didn't offer a seat at the bar. We asked if we could put our names down for a table, and she said yes. After 10-15 minutes, we got some seats at the bar (which we found ourselves). Food experience: the food takes a while to come out, so be prepared. The lobster lollipops were a good portion size, but the coconut was overpowering and made it too sweet, with not enough dipping sauce. The lamb sliders were DELICIOUS - highly recommend. Drink experience: the chardonnay flight was good. The raspberry fizz was okay (too lemon-y for our taste, but might be right for you!). Two old-fashioned were ordered, and made by two different bartenders. One of them was okay, the other was A LOT better. Service experience, continued: I ordered a glass of wine after the flight, and the bartender served at least 5-6 other drinks before serving mine, including the couple beside us who definitely ordered after me. And I was sitting at the bar. I had to remind him. Ambiance - fun, romantic, bumping. Overall: I would come here again because of the variety in the menu. The Marinated Blob strikes again... In London...Canada... sitting at the bar alone at The Tasting Room... This was my last night (ever?) in London, Ontario so I took some other yelp reviews and made my way here. Started off with the Kang's firey pork with sesame cilantro spaetzel. Pork was delicious, slightly on the dry side and not that firey (I'm Indian, your 10 is my 2), but still edible and had great flavors... And edible I did... The whole thing...the spaetzel was really good, too, but ima tryin to watch my blobish figure so I left about a spoonful on the plate. It's good, and if you ain't blob-ish, it's probably enough for 1 person as an entrée. I paired the pork with a pretty good local Steam Whistle beer (local meaning Toronto)...the really really local beer from London, Ontario they had on tap, I didn't like. Not sure the name...but it was like watered down beer, I rejected it after having a sample. Reed, the bartender, was good about giving me a different sample (although his facial expression made me feel like he had a stake in the company when he took my tasting glass). Probably not the best first impression I made. After the beer and pork, the Blob was still hungry. Debating between the seared ahi tuna loin and the beef tenderloin carpaccio (Reed's favourite...SEE THAT, HALF-WAY CANADIAN, eh?), I went with the ahi tuna. No complaints, cooked perfectly, and all went down the gullet. Salad and dipping sauces were on point! Paired that with a Creemore Springs brew they had on tap. The brew was better than the first Steam Whistle one I had. Blob, still thirsty and in need of a night cap... Forty Creek rye Whiskey, neat, was used to polish off the evening. Good flavor and bite to it... And Canadian! All good food and drink. Gonna sleep like a blobby. Don't debate, go there... Stop reading reviews and jump off the cliff already. I was so impressed at this establishment and sad that I haven't visited sooner! This restaurant is open 7 days a week (aside from 5 days a year), and from what I hear, it is quite busy all year round. I was impressed by the plethora of options, not only in their appetizer menu, but in the entrees, as well as their cocktail and wine selection. I dined here with a colleague, and we decided to share several dishes from the appetizer menu, while imbibing in the red wine flight (4 selections, each 2 oz). We selected the beef carpaccio which was quite delectable overall, presented with parmigiana regianno and capers. One of my favourite dishes was the sesame crusted tuna loin served with a wasabi sauce (amazing!), soy sauce and a side salad. This dish was incredible! We also had the sriracha chicken skewers which were tasty (but not exceptional), the crab cakes with a side slaw (also tasty, but not spectacular), and the scallops presented with a creamy aioli. Our wine flight consisted of 4 very different Cabernet wines, and our favourites were the Brownsone and Luigi Righetti. I loved the selection!! Four of us had dinner at The Tasting Room last night. Service and food for the most part were excellent except for the Coconut Shrimp Rice Balls. Of the 6 rice balls only 2 contained minuscule portions of shrimp, mostly the tail section, remaining 4 contained none. Disappointed this item didn't live up to expectations for a bistro of this calabre. Would we return? Probably yes but would this item in its current form be deleted from the menu. One wonders how many others had the same experience but didn't bother to give feedback. read more

I decided to come here upon recommendation from a friend. The place was packed at 6pm. I didn't know that the Dixie chicks were playing at Budweiser gardens. DO NOT come here if there is something going on there! It will be a bit of a wait. Positives: the wine selection was fabulous! Staff was very friendly and the food was really tasty! I had the seafood stuffed chicken breast. It was delicious! The food looked beautiful and tasted even better! Cons: long wait if there is an event. Small kitchen and can't keep up with demand. I've been here a handful of times and have yet to be disappointed. Yes, its often packed -- but for good reason. Reservations are highly recommended to avoid disappointment. The food, drinks and service are all consistently good. The food is always wonderful and fresh. The wine list is both extensive and fairly priced. While likely best know for their appetizers the menu itself is extensive and full of delicious options for any taste. They also offer wine fights, a bit of a rarity locally - but always a fun and educational option. On the whole I found my first visit here to be lacking ambiance. It was very busy and that took away from the experience; loud and cramped. The food was decent and our server was friendly. But the chaos all around was hard to ignore. We went to the Tasting Room after a team-building event. We made reservations but were about 20 minutes early so we waited at the bar. This place gets packed on a Thursday night! There was a couple happily munching down some apps at the bar for dinner, they all smelled amazing and looked just as good. The bartenders were quick on the draw and the drinks were good, a bit strong, but good (its hard to mess up a vodka-7 but my co-worker loved his very spicy Caesar). When we were seated the waitress read out the specials and could tell that we had interest in their meat and cheese board so she gave us the meats and cheeses of the night. We ordered a meat and cheese board, spare ribs, and spring rolls as an appetizer. The meats and cheeses were wonderful and fresh, she noticed we didnt have as much as other tables did so she brought out more. The ribs were fall of the bone amazing (reminded me of my moms ribs which are the best), and the spring rolls were nicely wrapped and fresh as well. The only thing was the dipping sauce for them was a bit acidic for my tastes. I ordered the crab and lobster stuffed chicken in a saffron sauce. I found it was a tiny bit dry and the taste of the skin on the chicken kind of took over sometimes but the lobster and crab was amazing. Paired with the sauce it was very tasty. Everyone else thoroughly enjoyed their meals which was fish, tenderloin, and the philly cheese. It was a brand new menu starting that night I believe. Either way, it all was well received. We also ordered the sangria for 2 near the end of the night. It was perfect. Not too sweet and the notes from the wine really shone through. My coworker who is new to London returned not long after to bring her friend in for her birthday. The Tasting Room is right of the heart of Richmond Row. It's always busy, but that doesn't necessarily mean that you won't be able to get a table without a reservation. The full menu is available at the bar. They are open for lunch and dinner. The crowd is a mix of pre-theatre patrons, professional singles and small groups. There always seems to be a celebration going on at one of the tables. The space is divided into three areas - the front area, the rear raised area and the bar. There are banquettes and tables in the front and rear areas. The had to redecorate after a flood upstairs a few years ago, but it's not wildly different than it was before. The menu has mains and small plates. The small plates are the real draw, not that there is anything wrong with the mains. Three or four of the small plates are plenty for two people. Faves include the lobster lollipops ($13), seared Ahi tuna ($12) and Kang's fiery pork ($11). Allergies can be accommodated if servers are advised at the outset. Mains run from $14 to $32. The "tasting" part of the name refers to both the small plates and the wine flights. They have two white flights (chardonnay and sauvignon blanc), two red flights (shiraz and cabernet) plus two changing feature flights (one white, one red). The main flights are $12 for four two oz. pours. It's a great way to try wines from different regions. Service tends to be quicker at the bar than at the tables. Many of the staff are professional servers so expect good service. read more

Their service is the worst among Richmond row restaurants. I've been to almost every restaurant around the area. I have to say this one is the most racist restaurant I've never been in London . When we entered it and told her we had a reservation and our friend was probably here already, the recipient girl said we might entered the wrong restaurant without checking reservation list, and told us garlic is the next door. I asked her if she saw a single lady got in 10min ago, she insisted she didn't see any ASIAN girl came in. Well, why Asian's friend must be Asian? Our waitress had never smiled to us and when she came to take order she just said:" ok, what do u want?" She had never gave us her name, and had never asked if we want any dessert. Bill just came along, we didn't even ask for it. The more ridiculous thing was, she brought credit card machine to us when we were having our tea and desserts, asked us directly how do we wanna pay. That was 9:30 to 10ish. People were still around and tables were also available. And, i promise we were just typical customers. I couldn't find a decent reason for her of doing this. read more

Stopped in for lunch with my wife. Popular place! We were quickly seated and drink order taken. We each decided on salads and they arrived quickly. I had a wedge salad, with house made blue cheese dressing. It was delicious! We will definitely be back! read more

I went here for date night with my out of town boyfriend. We were looking for a semi-fancy restaurant and friends had suggested that The Tasting Room might fit the bill. I'm a vegetarian, but I'm usually fine as long as there's an option for me on the menu or the kitchen is willing to adapt an item to be meatless. However, the veg item (which sounded ok on the menu) was pretty unappetizing when it came to the table. It was basically a number of mushrooms, stacked, with plain tomato sauce dumped over the top and some cheese grated on it. The dish was bland (and to be honest, kind of bizarre) and felt overpriced for what it was. My boyfriend got a chicken dish and thought it was great. I assume they're generally pretty good, just not totally vegetarian friendly. One thing I can say I LOVED was the flights of wine. We did the red flight and it was incredible. Several small glasses of wine, ordered from light to dark. The idea of doing a mini-tasting was really fun. I would go back just to do this again. read more

I am not going to write a book here but the tasting room is worthy of a more detailed review. What can I say I'm a man of few words. Mahi mahi special was delightful as was Melissa very efficient lacking a little warmth that this out of towner desires. None the less TTR did not disappoint. Beef tips in ginger and cilantro made me drool so we ordered a second but second order was noticeably more cooked and not as tender or juicy. Consistency is key! Seared ahi tuna had nice textures but very little flavour. I enjoyed the greens it came with more. Caesar salad(and caesar drink) and muscles were great. Calamari, spring rolls and lobster pops were ok. Waitress was skilled but made zero effort to be pleasant. she was overworked while we were there, while the other male server seemed to coast through the night.
