    Hensley CPA Firm PA

    (10 reviews)

I was a client of Hensley CPA for 7.5 years and paid over $65,000+ in retainer fees. I am leaving…read morethis review because I believe other small business owners deserve to know what to expect before engaging this firm. When I first joined, the experience was genuinely positive. The team was professional, attentive, and made me feel like a valued client. They helped me clean up some earlier bookkeeping issues and I was happy to refer them. For the first few years I had no major complaints. Something changed. Over the last three to four years the relationship deteriorated significantly and I can say with confidence that what I have been paying for has not been what I have been receiving. At $865 per month this is not a minor concern. The core problem is a complete lack of proactiveness. For a busy business owner who is trusting a CPA firm to stay on top of their financial health, that absence can get you into serious trouble. And it did. My written scope of engagement explicitly included quarterly CPA reviews, quarterly tax planning sessions, bi-annual strategy meetings, monthly financial reporting, and year-end officer compensation review. In 7.5 years I had approximately half a dozen conversations with a CPA at this firm. Every single one happened because I initiated it. Not once did anyone at this firm proactively reach out to schedule a review, flag a concern, or initiate a planning conversation. The pattern every quarter was the same. The bookkeeper sent a document checklist. I responded with everything requested. Then silence. No meeting. No planning session. No advisory output of any kind. I raised concerns about the lack of engagement over a year ago. Nothing changed. I am now dealing with the consequences of years of missing advisory guidance, with zero help or support from the firm that was supposed to provide it. Karey, the owner, came across as disengaged and disinterested the last time I requested a call and sought advice. That tone set the standard for the rest of the relationship. Nicole is responsive and communicates, but responsiveness without follow-through or action is not advisory service. Raising a concern and hearing nothing back is not acceptable at this price point. I was charged a premium rate justified by transaction volume despite the fact that nearly all of my transactions are fully automated. A comparable client of this firm paid 25 percent less per month and received more services than I did. I managed payroll, contractor filings, and related costs entirely on my own throughout the engagement on top of the monthly retainer. I formally terminated the engagement in writing. The firm committed to responding by April 17th. It is now April 20th with no response and no acknowledgment of any kind. Lori in bookkeeping was consistent and professional throughout and that is genuinely acknowledged. But bookkeeping alone does not justify this rate or this relationship. If you are a growing small business that needs a proactive CPA partner who will actually show up, flag problems before they become crises, and deliver the advisory services you are paying for, look elsewhere. This firm will wait for you to raise every concern, and by the time you do, it may already be too late.

While the CPA is capable and do their jobs the support of billing is horrendous for a company that…read moreis supposed to keep your book auditable and clean. They take money from your account without sending an invoice. Then keep sending invoice to be paid for other amounts. However the invoice doesn't explain what activity the invoice is for. It had some sort of internal code and a value. I tried to take them to task on a number of occasions to get me clear invoicing. Waste of my time. After a year I still cant get clarity what is included in the $200 dollar quarterly fee. Other than its not "hours" I am not saying they take money not owed, just it is near impossible to understand why and takes many hours of back and forward to get to the bottom of it. Time as a small business owner I can ill afford.
