Communication has gone downhill. Asking for clarification and getting zero back, or truly waiting a month for a response. Asking for advice on taxes and getting no advice back, while owing more and more in taxes each year with still no advice from them. I've been paying them for what I can do on my own with the automated version of TurboTax. A bummer since our friend referred us, but may be they were better many years ago.

Baker & Company get two things right all the time: customer service and knowing how to make the IRS work for their clients. Twice in the last six months our company has received notices from the IRS stating we owed them, and twice this year our company has received checks from the IRS. I just sent it all over to Baker & Co. and they worked their magic. If finances get tough at the end of the month, the office joke has been that we just need the IRS to send us another notice. Baker's accountants and staff really know their stuff, are proactive in working with clients and fun to work with (yes I said fun). This Review Will Cover My experience of last Year Return and my most Recent Tax Return. Last Year I…read morewas a 1099 Tax return, give it a 6/10 was there 30min but charged for an hour, John was not thorough. Assumed it was me not asking the right questions and gave them a second chance this year. I was a 1099 Independent Contractor with a Small business LLC that has been open for 3 months. Day of the appointment, again, there for 30 min, John said I would owe 11K in taxes and recommend an LLC to not have to pay those taxes, I was confused because I indeed already had an LLC , and clearly someone missed all my paperwork I input on their organizer. John took a look at my LLC and said "Nevermind, I'm gonna have to redo all this" I left Extremely confused. I called twice and all they could say was " We will let you know if we need anything from you" WHAT!?! WEEKS LATER I get an email stating taxes are done. I was charged 600 for personal, again, charged for an hour that I was not there for, then, 1,300 for business taxes, AND 800 for someone to go through my quickbooks. I had requested 1 HOUR of Quickbooks Organizing. No acknowledgment to the mess up and almost putting me 11K in Debt! No Communication to what is going on. My FIRST time filing for my 3 Month old Business and The Worst Experience I could've had. I Paid My Bill, and I Won't Fight over 3K because I have other this to worry about, but definitely want to help anyone out there looking to file your taxes. A 40-minute trip to deliver documents cost me a 1 hour fee. Despite the owner being "too busy" to introduce herself, she charged me for "consultation" services. My consultation consisted of sitting alone in a conference room, introducing myself to her administrator, and handing over my files. Ruthless and no concern for you or your company.

The first year they did my return, they made a mistake and told…read moreme it was my responsibility to make sure the tax return is accurate when I got a notice from the IRS which has never happened to me in my adult life. Chandler did amend the return at no charge but advised me it was my responsibility to make sure the entire return is correct. I'm not a CPA which is why I paid them for their expertise. I chalked it up to a one time mistake, but the next year I went over the return page by page, line by line, and found multiple mistakes (since it's my responsibility according to them so I spent hour and hours reviewing every line item). Chandler had to modify the return at least 3 times and make many corrections before it could be submitted to the IRS. These were mistakes I found (not them). What is the point of hiring and paying a CPA to file my tax return if I need to learn all the tax laws to find their mistakes. I had to proofread all their work but their fee was never discounted for the countless hours I had to spent proofing the return and bringing errors to their attention. I even had to bring to their attention a typo transposing numbers, a mathematical error, as well as a major error whereas they reflected tax free funds as taxable funds. Needless to say I decided to find a new CPA going forward as I had no confidence in their ability to prepare my return accurately. Fortunately, I found a highly competent CPA that I am working with now and have been for several years. My new CPA even went back and found more mistakes (that I didn't know about as I'm not a CPA). I had to pay my new CPA to amend mistakes from their original work. I didn't even ask Chandler to amend the old return to fix their mistakes as did not want to have any further relationship with them as trust was gone and I moved on to another CPA who I paid to amend the return previously filed by Chandler. The people at Chandler are very nice people, but I just do not have confidence of the accuracy of my returns they prepared so I found a new CPA. I shouldn't have to have CPA knowledge to hire a CPA to complete my return. I provide my CPA with proper documentation and while I still review the return before it is submitted, I expect my CPA to prepare an accurate return. I do hope that things have changed for them as this was several years ago and hope they are doing a more thorough review of their work. I wish them the best of luck. I didn't even want to write this review as they were nice people but a friend of mine said it would be wrong not to write the review. In the end, I do hope these were just training issues that have since been resolved so this does not happen to anyone else.
