He also sells pond supplies and equipment at full retail which I don't recommend buying from him. I don't feel he is a professional and more importantly can not be trusted.

But, I soon felt like I was in the Seinfeld soup episode "No soup for you". After the amount was calculated, I had a few more questions regarding delivery ...and was quickly met with an exhasperated "are you buying today?" from the older "gentleman" at the counter. I said I was getting all the info today and I needed to go home to check on the size of the tarp I had to hold the mulch as well as whether I wanted black or brown mulch. Then, I asked if I could call in the order and pay by cc. My intent, all along, was to purchase from Highland Farm as I live in the area and didn't want to shop farther out and did want to support a local business. I was not disputing the cost of the mulch or delivery charges he quoted me at all. When I asked if he could write down the price/delivery for both the brown and black mulch for me , that's when things went south. He refused, saying something about me just going home and not returning or some nonsense about me holding him to the price(?). He declared I'd get the price again when I called or came back. Huh? I was stunned, but remained silent and decided not to engage with this sour, unpleasant man. I simply said ok, thank you, and left. In the end I purchased the mulch elsewhere where I was treated with respect, and paid less for both the mulch and delivery. It, however,was never about the cost, but the, rude, undeserved treatment I received. Granted I didn't't go there looking to become a "friend" but, come on... Who treats customers like that? Never again... ,

I even asked for a quote to cut out a small circle area where I plan to install a firepit. I spoke to Tom shalvey who offered to cut the firepit circle for free. I sent him multiple pictures of my yard and requested a quote as mentioned. He quoted the following in an email: Spring cleanup $450.00 Lawn cut $50.00 each Basic fire pit installed. $1500.0. I sent an email to Tom asking if Spring Cleanup includes the clearing of weeds, and Tom asked me to call him because he was in the middle of something. From our conversation he told me the weeds would be taken care of. The crew came hours later than the time slot I was told and I wasn't home at the time. When I returned all that was completed was a "cut" which is $50 per the quote. I called Shalvey saying that the weeds and patches have not been tended to and I do not want to pay a Spring cleanup fee if all that was a cut. Not to mention they didn't cut the circle for the firepit like he promised. Shalvey informed me that they would have the crew return and complete the work. I tried reaching out the next two days to see when the crew would return as I'm leaving town and the office kept telling me they would check and let me know. So I sent Tom an email explaining that I needed it completed sooner as originally scheduled (no one at the office was getting back to me). He had the crew come back out and cut out the circle for the firepit but nothing else was done with the weeds and patches. I was out of town and when I returned 2 weeks later I couldn't get a hold of Tom. After calling several times and being told someone would get back to me I dropped the matter all together. I had put down a $150 deposit which is much more than the actual work completed. No one could get back to me to complete the work and resolve the issue. I ended up moving out of state and was reached out to only once of twice to pay the invoice. I informed them the work was not completed as promised and I'm not paying the additional $300 for a clean up when it was just a cut. They said they'd look into the bill and get me an updated invoice, only to call me a month later to say the work was in fact completed when it wasn't. The phone calls then picked up to be more frequent. They ended up getting a lawyer and threatening to go to collections. I do not recommend Shalvey Brothers and warn all homeowners to stay away from them. They will mislead you, earn your trust and then rob you. Find a better company with good reviews and save yourself the stress.

In the summer, Hot work.. So, the job consisted of removal of old asphalt, grading, applying binder cost, compacting and then finish with class 1 topcoat and cleanup. The estimator was punctual to his appointment. The price submitted was correct and reasonable for the job. The appointment was made for the work 3 weeks out. The office confirmed the appointment a few days ahead of arrival. The crew with Mike (owner), at the helm arrived at exactly at the time and date established. The crew of 6 (7 with Mike), worked flawlessly together like a well tuned orchestra doing a symphony. In a few short hours the job was completed, the work completely cleaned up! No hesitation here: highly recommend! 5 stars ! Ken Postscript: LOOK.. Asphalt paving is a real tough occupation. Good help is difficult to find and keep. Customers, (especially ones that are not familiar with the "paving trade", are sometimes not treated honestly and overpay for substandard work. M & M are honest and forthright with all phases of paving.. Thanks to you and your crew Mike for a job well done! OH.. did I mention the word "hot"?
