Shortly after, at future cleaning there, I was told I not…read moreonly had another cavity BUT gum disease that needed regular treatments of having some antibiotic capsule shoved up my gums. I was shocked because I never was told anything about having gum disease before from other dentists--it didn't make sense how I went from normal gums to 'gum disease' all of a sudden. After that appointment-- in a panic--I contacted a very close friend whose husband was a dentist and she was a dental hygienist. I sent her X-rays and she was confident--not only from the X-rays, but also from knowing me well--that I did not have gum disease. I then went to my husband's dentist for a consult and his dentist also said I do not have gum disease. I asked him about the cavity and he said it was not a cavity, just staining in a groove on my molar. (I guess it's safe to assume 'my first-ever cavity' was not a cavity either.) It was really shocking this happened by a licensed dentist. When i cancelled my next appointment, I expressed my disapproval of being told I needed treatment that I didn't, the lady on the phone seemed to not be surprised.

Yes, the FLOSS team runs a beautiful, state of the art office that is immaculately clean and comfortable. But what really keeps me coming back are the careful, attentive exams and gentle, through treatment I receive here. Every hygienist I have seen has gotten my teeth perfectly smooth and sparkly, and given me pointers on continually improving my at-home routine (without being judge-y or peachy). I particularly appreciate Dr. Forney's conservative, preventative approach to dental care--she is the most through, engaged dentist I have ever visited when conducting the check-up exam. She not only spends time carefully examining every nook and cranny of your mouth and (gently) checking for sensitivity, she also asks thoughtful questions and really listens to my answers. She seems to always be working proactively to spot potential issues and prevent them, before they become a big problem requiring painful or expensive treatment. For example, I was experiencing some painless popping in my jaw when opening my mouth wide (like when chewing with my mouth very full). I almost didn't mention it because it wasn't causing me any discomfort, but when I said something in passing to Dr. Forney, she immediately recognized that I had worn away a lot of the cartilage in my jaw from grinding my teeth at night. She told me to start wearing my old night guard, which I had gotten lazy about, and this would allow the cartilage to regenerate. Sure enough--six months with the night guard--no more poppin! During another visit, Dr. Forney noticed what looked like a coffee stain on a previous sealant from another dentist, but asked if she could take a closer look by doing a little bit of drilling. I was skeptical, but I trust her, so I said "break out the drill!" Well, turns out that there was decay forming under the sealant from the previous dentist. Dr. Forney was able to do a small filling and nip this in the bud, just by spending a little extra time on the exam (and not assuming it was just a coffee stain). The idea that this could have become a big filling or worse keeps me coming back to Dr. Forney--and trusting her implicitly--every time. In short, Dr. Forney is a highly skilled, meticulous and incredibly through dentist, and the entire experience at Floss Stone Oak stands alone among general dentistry in San Antonio (I've moved to Austin and I still drive down just to come here!). They take insurance, but as someone who has at times had a HDHP and paid out of pocket, I can say it's also very reasonably priced, especially given the high standard of care. If you're still reading this, make an appointment already! Floss Stone Oak and Dr. Forney are the best!

They never scheduled a final appointment for me before my move, even though I told them I was leaving and needed to finish my treatment. I had to find another dentist to remove my aligners, and he showed me that one of my teeth was still crooked after I paid around $5,000. 2. When they did X-rays and a cleaning, no one clearly explained there would be extra charges for the images. The final bill was higher than I expected and did not feel transparent. 3. The dentist told me I needed a crown and that I had many cavities. A second opinion from another dentist confirmed that I did not need a crown and that I did not have all those cavities. Because of this, I do not recommend this office. In my opinion, the treatment planning, pricing transparency, and accuracy of the diagnosis were very disappointing.

This goes against ADA and FDA medical ethics. I've also been phone stalked by Maria, who fits the behavioral pattern of a covert narcissist and the other staff, to pressure me into buying expensive and unnecessary dental services, as well as having to argue with her when I came in with a broken tooth. Now, they're unlawfully withholding my dental records, which is a violation of federal PHI standards. No patient deserves to be abused like this, by such an unethical practice that's willing to harass and ruin patients' teeth to upsell them on services. Avoid these heartless, soulless psychopaths like HIV if you value your dental health.
