Relatives were in town so we headed downtown for some shopping and came across Fortney's on Main Street which had a sign in the window that said the business had moved 3 blocks away to Mound Street. We headed that way and found the Fortney Home which is an historic mansion filled with antiques and collectibles. The owner has filled the whole house with items and each room has it's own theme. Lots of high quality stuff for sale here. The owner is a longtime business owner in Nacogdoches and has had several different businesses over the years. Check it out! You will be surprised about how much stuff there is here.

I didn't find much other than a doll here though. For me these things are more like vases and those sorts of antiques. He had several junk silver coins, but I declined to buy any from him because he claimed that silver spot was $52. When I looked at Kitco prices, it was only $50. Of course, he was throwing a premium on top of the coins based on his inflated silver price so I declined to engage with someone who isn't really honest from the start on the coins. Apparently, he owns the building and sold it, so he is retiring in May. So perhaps better deals will be coming down in the next several months.

I am a big fan of this antique shop located on Main Street in Downtown Nacogdoches. The owner is…read morean ex-marine/college football player who was dedicated to his wife who passed away recently. The shop is located in a building that used to house Sears. I have filled a house I bought here in Nac with lots of stuff from the shop; Mirrors, wall mounted candle holders, cast iron wall monuments, wooden shelves/corner shelves, wooden table ornaments, candle holders and lots of brass ornaments and figurines. The owner and his wife used to own a brass shop in town. Picked up a couple old, leather holsters including a WW2 marine holster and a nice leather rifle case. Expect to dig around a bit and to consider what an item might look like if it was cleaned and polished. Several of the wooden items I bought were hand made and solid wood but were caked with dust. They look great now. Also hope I haven't bought everything you wanted. He has an old, historic Lone Star flag he is very proud of. My kids and nieces were even pleased with the gifts I have given them from this store which is very, very hard to do and earns the Main Street Antique Mall 5 stars!

There were Asian screens, gorgeous furniture pieces, glassware of every style, the largest selection of vinyls I've seen, and there was plenty of Old Texas collectibles too. I heard that they were under new management. All I know is the owner who greeted me was very pleasant and interested in helping me.
