I waited a few days before reviewing the Tortoise Clinic, because you can't really tell this stuff works until it works, you know? Anywho, stuffs about to get personal. But, while on vacation, I got a UTI. GASP! I've had one before and it took three rounds of antibiotics to feel better. The antibiotics were worse than the condition in my opinion. They left me feeling weak and unbalanced. I decided that if it ever happened again I would go natural. I started by heading to For the Health of It https://www.yelp.com/biz/for-the-health-of-it-santa-rosa-beach, which is a great store by the way. I picked up some D-Mannose and some other herbs - dropped around $100 and started my "treatment". I didn't get better. At this point in time, my bestie was freaking out as infections are known to spread. I decided to give the Tortoise Clinic a try because I didn't want to give up on a natural cure and the internet wasn't doing me any favors by suggesting I spend hundreds more on western herbs. I made an appointment for the next day and met with Drew. Drew is a nice guy, he's open-minded when it comes to medical options. He even gave a nod to my choice of D-Mannose, calling it "golden". He seemed genuinely shocked that it didn't work; though he quickly added that he felt eastern herbs were better than western herbs. Drew made me a cup of tea, asked me some questions, suggested some books, took a genuine interest in my overall health, stuck some needles in my legs, gave me some herbs and sent me on my way. By the next day, I felt better than I felt before I wasn't better. If that makes sense? However, a couple days later, my problems came back. I took the entire cure with no luck, I had to go to a regular doctor for antibiotics. I don't blame Drew, I think if the natural cure was going to work, D-Mannose would have worked. Overall, I had a good experience. As a side note, Drew typically makes custom blended teas, which sometimes take up to an hour to make. As this would have been a real pain for me to accomplish during our 7-hour drive back to Nashville, he sold me pills. He sold me a $20 bottle of V-Statin, which can only be purchased from an acupuncturist. He told me that the blend was created by a guy who wrote the book on all things bladder. I made an appt to see Drew because I was on day 12 of an upper respiratory infection & still had a productive cough & lots of nasty looking sinus drainage. I didn't want to go on antibiotics. This was my first experience with acupuncture. Drew listened to me & came up with a plan. He did his acupuncture magic on me which was very relaxing. He also sent me out with herbs to make tea. By the next day I was significantly better & within 2 days I felt like the infection I had was gone. I have decided to use this route of immune support if I ever get sick again. Drew and his staff are amazing and can work miracles. My entire family goes regularly for good health and cures for ailments. My husband has not had an antibiotic in 10 years. It improves and keeps my 16 year old daughter's allergies in check. My husband and I have both been going to the Tortoise Clinic periodically for almost 4 years now. It is such a wonderful place, and I cannot say enough about Dr. Drew, including his lovely wife Yoshi, and Michelle in the front lobby. They are a fantastic team and each of them contribute to what I would describe as a very peaceful, healing experience. We have sought out relief and guidance there when dealing with a number of things (allergy issues, back pain, digestion, sleep problems). My husband had very chronic digestion issues his entire life. All have been remedied by following the guidance of Dr. Drew. Additionally, I went often throughout one of my pregnancies in attempt to keep water retention down and just to overall help my body stay as healthy as possible. I was more energized while working full time with less fatigue and issues than I experienced in a prior pregnancy. Best part- at the end of my term, I was one week past my due date. In hopes to avoid the labor inducing drug Pitocin, I asked Dr. Drew for help. I had an acupuncture appointment that afternoon and within 4 hours I was in active labor. My primary OB-GYN couldn't believe it when she saw me at the hospital, as I had a Doctor's appointment that same day and my body was showing absolutely no signs that labor was imminent. Anyway, I could go on sharing my personal experiences, but most importantly, I want to mention that our relationship with Dr. Drew (between acupuncture and herb regimens) has helped keep us healthy both physically and mentally.
