Review #471 - First To Tip (11/20/2023) April 30, 2024 = Tuesday After moving in My new House in September 1992, there was a Stinky Smelly Bradford Pear tree it was called that was showing signs of distress with bugs on the bark and branches. I called Mike after viewing his detailed advertisement in a home improvement business magazine. I was pleased when he checked it over and gave me a good estimate price to remove the tree on my front lawn property that had a bug disease and was not treatable. His crew completed the tree removal along with stump grind. They cleaned up in a professional and through way. History: This Tree Business started back in 1978 after Mike worked for Detroit Edison trimming trees. Since 1989 till the Fall of 2023 there's been a 35 year old Silver Maple Tree in the backyard of another house which now is empty. In the past years the tree has grown Tall and over grown with roots under the fence into my yard (besides two other neighbors) I offered to trim or removal the whole tree price not an option back in 2004 but the previous neighbors owning the tree on the easement said no. A radius of four residential houses still deals with Spring, Summer and Fall Issues because of this old tree. A family of squirrels lives in a rotted area in the lower section of it too now. In the Summer of 2023 I contacted the Macomb Township Offices and had a representative come out to My home to look, inspect and give Me an option on this tree causing problems in my yard and pool liner. He could only assist by suggesting to remove the sections that are hanging over in my yard of my property and of course the pool. I called Mike as a previous customer and he stopped over with a good price including clean up and shredding the thick and other branches after trim. The crew of 6 guys arrived on time in the brisk cold temp before Thanksgiving to get the job done. They were careful, efficient, and organized from start to finish with cleanup in two yards too. Time will tell when the pool is open May 10th and when Summer arrives to hope that more Sun will shine more in My pool instead of being in the shade 3 hours covering from the old Silver Maple Tree. Also In a rain and wind storm this tree will bend plus if ice forms in the winter. I'm still worried about My house and if this tree comes down due to weather conditions! The Tree Surgeon crew did phenomenal work on a huge job in my yard. Mike came very soon after I called to inquire about having the work done and the job was done within a week or 10 days, I don't remember. They cut down 20 giant blue spruce trees, trimmed a huge maple and my beloved oak tree. They ground up the stumps and cleaned up beautifully. They amazed me. They were helpful and respectful when I had questions or comments, so polite. Also, I was pleased to see they treated each other well. The Tree Surgeon came out to remove a large limb from my pine tree in the yard and trim the tree. I asked them to also take the branches that fell from the storm and they did a fantastic job cleaning not only the branches but all the pine needles that were on the ground and porch. They were out within a week of when they quoted and and the price was great. Would recommend them highly read more

This company is extremely unprofessional. They have been coming and spraying my neighbor's tree and this is the second time that they failed to notify me as I am outside with my small children. I have a 4 year old and a 10 month old and I am a stay at home mom currently staying with my mom as my family is on hard times. This company has no regard for anyone outside of their paying customers apparently. As I was outside with my children on a slightly breezy day (for the SECOND occurrence mind you) this person walks up and is spraying trees right on the fence line. I proceeded to try to ask this gentleman if this spray is safe for kids and he totally blew me off and said the wind if blowing in the other direction. The wind was literally swirling. He threw his stuff in his car and drove off. Meanwhile both of my kids got red in the face and were rubbing their eyes and we had to go inside. This is completely unprofessional. Spraying in the air means you notify anyone around especially if you hear kids nearby. I am keeping my attorneys on standby as this is completely unacceptable. The Customer Service from this company is terrible! They came out to my condo complex and totally cut off healthy branches from several trees that were healthy. When I questioned the supervisor about why he cut off a healthy part of the tree trunk he said "I CAN TELL BY HOW YOU KEEP YOUR PLACE YOU ARE PARANOID!" I can't understand why my character was personally attacked for a question?? I am a Realtor and will make sure I never recommend Tree Surgeon to any of my clients. This is our third experience with the Tree Surgeons. Always the lowest price, prompt service, and a very professional crew. They are efficient, leaving no trace that they were even here. Doesn't matter if it's 18 dead ash trees, or just one worn out spruce, they get it done and done fast. Highly recommend. read more

Kinda surprised at this companies priorities. Called today, about 9:30A after last evenings storm, left a message that a pretty large portion of a tree in the front of my home had fallen due to a lightening strike and the branch was partially in the street. Well,Kristen promptly called back and said that, unfortunately, they couldn't help me until October 15th. That's right, October 15th. I'm writing this on August 20th. Now look, I know they must be busy given the crazy and horrific storms we have had of late. I get that. But anything that represents a potential safety concern? Are you kidding? So, contacted the Davey Tree Expert Co. of Chesterfield Mi. They also do a lot of business in my subdivision. They actually showed concern over the situation and within 3 hours a rep showed up, and 3 hours later, 2 trucks and three very competent workers had the tree down, ground, and not a leaf left on the street! Matthew the foreman was terrific. He was very friendly and knowledgable. I'm quite sure they are as busy as the tree surgeon yet they realize the importance of safety. Live and learn! read more

I have used a couple of different tree service companies in the past and have never written a review but The Tree Surgeon is worthy of a post. This is a professional company from start to finish. As a family owned business you really see the care for their employees and customers. The process to call and set up an estimate was a pleasure working with Kristen. The owner himself, Mike, came out and we walked the property talking about each tree and what I was looking to do. He listen to me and shared a few suggestions along the way. Then provided me a fair estimate. The crew came in the morning and was done by the afternoon - one 3 story tree removal and 3 major tree trimmings. This crew was professional and knew what they were doing. They had professional equipment that did the job right and safely. Most of all the trees and heard looks beautiful -- I could not be more happy. I will absolutely being calling The Tree Surgeon in the future. Highly recommend. read more

I have used The Tree Surgeon for twenty years, Mike did what he said he was going to do and then more and the price was always good. Now that his son -in -law has taken over it is not the same, his prices are way out of line and he does not do what he says he will do. I never got any other quotes when Mike was running the business, now I will not ever use them again, what a shame. I gave his cards to so many people over the years, now I tell my friends not to call them. I wonder If Mike knows how his in - law's are running the business? The Tree Surgeon of Mount Clemens did a great job in our condo community. We had a number of trees removed, which were too close to buildings, and the workers did their job efficiently, carefully and cleaned up really well. The price was right and we hope to use them again for trimming and additional tree removal & replacement. read more

Mike Schmidt owner of the tree Surgeon was prompt from the from the first call to schedule for a estimate ( Good Price) right thru the trimming, his team was very polite and efficient, also a good clean-up. Terrible service. Scheduled tree trimming..... THEY scheduled a time for when they could come out .. gave me 3 hour window.. I agreed to it... then on the day of they called me with 20 minutes left.... and they stated they were unable to make it.. fell behind... ok, I understand... However, when asked when they would commit they stated they would get to me when they can get to me. No commitment. Also stated that they were doing be a favor. Frankly I think I was doing them a favor by hiring them. Way to many options out there .. no one should feel obligated to use a company with no business value or appreciation of a customer. All I asked for was a commitment... if I was not a priority today.. make me a priority tomorrow or the next day... But since they were doing me a favor .. I guess that was too much to ask. Just had the surgeons at our house and they couldn't have been any nicer and professional. Made the call this morning and had same day service.
