We've been to this…read moremarket a handful of times when visiting Cloudcroft, New Mexico, and have always been very pleased with the stores welcoming environment, it is very cozy and well stocked, lots of things to look at for the whole family. The shop has many cute souvenirs and home goods. I've noticed their fair prices, compared to other stores we have visited. My reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is due to the lack of a welcoming attitude from the owner, I hate to judge someone's attitude on one visit (from this years trip) but this has happened before. Overall, I highly recommend Mountain Magic Market!

The Tularosa Basin Museum of History moved into this much-improved location last year. It's much…read morelarger, and they finally have room to display most of their holdings. One of the most interesting exhibits was about Chihuahita (the Mexican part of town) and the Dudley School in Chihuahita (a segregated school for blacks and Mexicans). Their prize possession is the (unofficial) 47-star US flag created in 1912 when New Mexico was admitted as a state. The gift shop has a vast array of local history books along with some more traditional tourist items. The building is a historic adobe (it previously held the Plaza Pub) and there are some spots inside where you can view the original adobe walls.

This museum has SOO MUCH information! It takes you through the history of the area: from BC all the way to present day practically. There is a huge emphasis on the railway because, well that's what gave birth to the region. But there are also tons of knick knacks from bygone time periods that you often cant get so close to at bigger museums. You can see exactly how people lived in the 1800's and 1900's. They also have a large selection of stories and pictures from locals, as they try to flesh out the history of their immediate town and surroundings. Alot of love went into the museum. It's currently $3 a ticket, and I'd say you definitely get your $3 worth!

Most of the rocks are sourced from other locations and countries. Most of the signs state where the stones, rocks, and such came from. They also had some fossils, geodes, and salt rocks. Some carved stones. Fun place. More specialty shop than tourist mountain shop. This is more for my wife's viewing, I didn't notice the prices on the individual stones. Tho the price on carved stones and cut geodes weren't what I'd call cheap. Fun place, worth a quick stop at least, even if it's just to say "hi" to Copper, which the staff says a lot of locals do.
