Not a great experience here either time I have been to this location. Pricey and not great quality.

The Hair Shoppe saved me!!!…read more Getting extensions (not from the Hair Shoppe) for the first time just days before a vacation was probably not the best idea. Although I loved my longer, fuller locks, I realized in hindsight that I didn't allow myself time to get used to them before heading out of town for a week of family fun in Seaside. Instead of relaxing on my vacation, I was frustrated with my new extensions which were too long and heavy for my fine, thin hair. Not only were they pulling on my scalp but it was taking way too much time for this mom to style her hair in the morning! But I was 10 hours from home and *on vacation.* What to do? Desperate, I took matters into my own hands. Literally. I pulled out my scissors - knowing that what I was about to do would probably cause my hair stylist back home to disown me (!) - and attempted to create a few layers as well as trim a little bit length off the ends. I had no idea what I was doing. When the deed was done I was certain my hack job was glaringly obvious. And my extensions were still too heavy. Since my family had planned on taking our xmas picture on the beach during our stay *and* I was leaving for a separate girls' trip immediately following the vacation, I knew I wouldn't have time to see my stylist back home. But I needed my hair fixed. STAT. I checked the yelp reviews of the hair salons in Seaside where I was staying, but they were a mixed bag and none really stood out. Although The Hair Shoppe, located next door in Gearhart, had just a few reviews, they were glowing and seemed geniune. I also appreciated the fact that there were photos. I called on a Sunday afternoon (aware they were closed that day) and left a voicemail. Stephanie returned my call the very next Monday morning. I explained my dilemma to her, and also inquired about getting a few foil highlights to brighten my face (my extensions were dark and added to the "heaviness"). Stephanie was totally accommodating and scheduled me in for that very week. Whew! After arriving at the small, but clean and chic salon, I was immediately put at ease by Stephanie's friendly and professional demeanor. We reviewed my hair goals and she went to work. I could tell Stephanie had years of experience by the way she handled my hair and the questions she asked. Before long she had brightened me up with some caramel highlights that framed my face (which was tricky as my hair is brown-black with some purple extensions mixed in at the bottom). She then cleaned up my homemade haircut, added long layers, and evened out the back. I was thrilled (and relieved) with the results!!!! The extensions were lighter and easier for me to manage, the highlights were on target, and I was sporting a more balanced and natural looking cut to boot. I'm still exhaling... Bottom line: whether you are on vacation or are a local, you NEED to go to The Hair Shoppe. Scary as it was to book a hair appointment far from home while on vacation, I am sooooo happy I took the risk and hit the jackpot with Stephanie! :)

I think it is closed? I could not find it. I think it's a candy shop now. Very cute candy shop. But…read moreno hair salon.

I just moved back to Astoria after several years away and was looking to find my new go-to stylist…read more Hygge will definitely not be getting my business. I had the most frustrating experience trying to schedule an appointment here. Nobody answered the phone, which is understandable in a small salon, but after leaving a few voicemails over the course of a week (detailed with my name, number, and service requested) I never received a call back. I went on their website where I saw they accept walk-ins- great! So I stopped by one weekday afternoon and saw a big sign on the front door that also indicated walk-ins were welcome. Upon entering the salon, I noticed it was totally dead. This was during peak COVID, and a stylist came out from the back not wearing a mask. I asked if she had time for a walk-in haircut, but she said no. Okay, how about a quick bang trim? Still no, due to COVID restrictions, she said. Well can I book an appointment for now? Still no. I was a bit irritated that I had wasted my time stopping in for a service that was no longer available. I politely suggested that if their policy was to refuse all walk-ins, they should remove the "walk-ins welcome" signage from their website and door. I was rudely told that "COVID will be over soon" so there was no need to update the signage. Uhm, well....it's many months later we're just now seeing restrictions loosened. Her attitude was very dismissive. Also, if you're going to blame COVID for refusing to accommodate new customers, how about you wear a freakin' mask?! Very unwelcoming and unprofessional.
