Poor customer service: I don't use this location often but I arrived 5 minutes before closed to drop off a prepped package, fixed with label, only needing to be scanned. After walking in, I hadn't gotten the sentence, "Hi, how are you?" out of my mouth before the clerk huffed a huge sigh, shook his head, interrupting "How can I help you?" He was visibly frustrated that I had the AUDACITY to drop off a package. I responded calmly with "It's only a drop off." He proceeded to scan my package and quickly handed me my receipt. I understand the frustrations with work, having a bad day, and managing bad customers. But if customers arrive within open hours, they shouldn't be handled as if they're an inconvenience. Conveniently located right next to Duke/Duke hospital which makes running errands before or after work extremely easy. Parking can be a bit tricky as the lot is one-way driving but once you find it there is usually plenty of spaces available. The staff was very helpful and attentive. I was in and out in under a minute for a quick Amazon return. I am not sure how this locations is for other services, but my experience was pleasant. read more

Considering how many UPS trucks were idling outdoors at noon when I was sending a 2nd-Day-Air package, and how many are always coming and going from the plaza whenever I'm there, I am dismayed my small parcel wasn't actually marked as shipped until the end of the next day -- about 30 hours later. And then it didn't even go to the airport, but got trucked to South Carolina for some reason before it got on an airplane. But the staff was friendly. read more

I was pretty excited about this UPS store because I ship things quite often and they're the closest to my new house and offer a Duke discount which was great. Unfortunately a horrible experience with the store owner has tarnished the place to me and I will never go back there. I pay $20 to ship a pretty light box to NJ which seemed like a lot but it is what it is shipping is expensive only to find that same box lying on my doorstep the next day having been delivered to me by UPS. I thought maybe I had failed to package it appropriately or had labelled it incorrectly causing them to return it to my address but neither was true. It was sealed and the To: address was clearly displayed. BUT, the UPS label clearly put the delivery address as my home address so it was clear that the employee had put the From: address that was on my label into the To: field on the computer. So I took it to UPS to get the issue sorted out. That trip turned into a pretty loud argument with the store owner who never once apologized for his employee's mistake but instead told me I should take responsibility for not having proofread the employee's work before leaving the store. This not only frustrated me but totally withdrew any trust I had in the place. For an owner of any establishment to tell me as a customer who has a job elsewhere and a life at home and a million other things to think about that I should take responsibility for their employee's mistake is egregious. And not even to apologize or show any kind of concern that this mistake would occur wasting me as a customer both time and money. I had labelled the item clearly and appropriately and done my role perfectly and all this man had to say was "I'm very sorry for this mistake we made but lets get it cleared up. We try and have customers proofread addresses after our employees have typed them but I understand this system is not foolproof" but instead jumped to telling me to take responsibility for the mistake. I'm sorry but when your job is to look at addresses all day I would hope that you get pretty good at knowing the difference between a From: and To: field and hopefully don't need me to find your mistake. He seemed like a nice enough guy but I would not have expected a store owner to be so poorly versed in customer service and its clear that he was teaching his employees to be the same so I'd rather drive a little bit further to somewhere where hopefully they're a bit better at proofreading their own work. read more

Walked in with a package and an older gentleman grunted some words equivalent to "put it on the scale". Unfortunately he was never taught how to say "hello". I replied, "Sure, but it's pre-paid and I just need to drop it off". He looked really disappointed? Or annoyed that there would not be a sale? Who knows. Alarmingly, he lost his voice, became mute, and forgot how to say "you're welcome" or "good bye". I should have called an ambulance. It could've been a medical emergency! Just kidding. I went in to print a 2x2" photo (passport size) which I had already taken and cropped and sized myself. I should have been charged 60 cents or less for a color print, instead I was charged $14.95 to print this tiny photo because it was "passport size". No other reason than that. DO NOT GO HERE TO PRINT YOUR PICTURE. In fact, use the passport renewal website to take and crop your own photo (they have a great online tool! find it here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/how-apply/photos.html) and take your photo to be printed at some other place that will respect your money. read more

This is the most disgutsting store. I went out of country for 2 mon.s and had 17 boxes delivered to them. I picked up in the morning on May 13, I only signed for 16. In the afternoon I returned for the problem, the owner tried every excuse to refuse to go through one receipt by one with me. Later in the evening I went, one cleark said I already signed 17! My signature was faked. I am a cancer patient and I donot hv engergy to fight this. I believe the thief will get killed in a car crash for what has happed. read more

This morning I stopped in to inquire about shipping a bottle of perfume to a friend in India, chosing this location based upon the location and figured they did regular shipping to foreign places since they are right at DUKE UNIVERSITY & MEDICAL CENTER. I told the rep what I wanted to do, and asked what the price range for doing so would be, he said he had NO idea, but did weigh the item and gave me a price. My husband commented that I needed to get a box, the older guy suggested a padded envelop, to which I stated, it is perfume. Please explain to me how a padded envelop will protect a glass bottle of perfume better than a box??!? He asked me if perfume was allowed to be shipped to India, when I replied that I didn't know he suggested I look it up. Now, if he is in the shipping business, shouldn't he have a general knowledge of items that are NOT allowed? said to look up on line. The man seemed to be annoyed that I needed help, he was rude, lacked knowledge and is too old to be working there. Frustrated with the encounter I picked up my items and left. As I thought more about the exchange it occurred to me that perhaps he was new, there was a younger guys standing behind him, and was in training. So I called and asked to speak to someone other than the older gentleman. When I asked if that was who I was speaking with he said he didn't know (obviously he doesn't know himself). I said I was recently in there and there were 3 guys working he realized who I was. He said he was the OWNER and that I could talk to him and that if I had a problem I should go somewhere. I told him I would be going elsewhere. What this old fart doesn't realize is that he is sitting on a GOLD mine! He is in the heart of a major university with students from all over the world. Students ship and received items daily, not to mention the other services this business offers. The opportunities are endless. Based on the other comments I am seeing, I am not the first to have an issue with the man, perhaps we should all send letters to the UPS corporate office and suggest he hire front office help and have him stay in the back. I think I could do just as well sending it to India in a bottle, rather than use this man's service. I stopped by to have a document notarized that I needed to mail. It took shamefully long to get the document notarized, but since I was in the store, I figured I may as well have them ship the document to where I needed it as well. I instructed them it needed to be there in 2 days. I gave them the address and verified it and paid $10, a stupidly high amount. Since the material was important, I even paid for delivery confirmation. The document did not arrive at its intended destination for 10 days! This is pathetic. I typically don't have good things to say about USPS, so when you're doing worse than them, you're in trouble. Steer clear. In fact, I don't have good experiences to recommend UPS shipping in general. read more

I had the most outstanding service at this UPS store, and I'm so happy to recommend them! My daughters have had wonderful service at this location for many years and suggested I go there. When I stopped by earlier in the day to evaluate different shipping scenarios, Justin was super patient and helpful. He also went out of his way to help me determine what time of day I should ship to each destination to have my boxes arrive on the dates I needed. When I returned that evening, Justin saw me park, came to meet me with a dolly, and unloaded my many heavy boxes for me. Wow! I soon realized that some of my older boxes needed replacing, and Justin helped assemble new boxes for me and transfer their contents--for free and with the most gracious spirit! His female associate, whose name I unfortunately failed to get, was also very helpful. Many stores would have either hustled me out, as it was close to closing time, or pressured me with an attitude. Instead, I was treated to a welcoming, can-do attitude and physical help that I sorely needed. I am very grateful to Justin and his colleague. This store offers incredibly awesome service!!! He took care of everything, from delivering an empty box for packing to a Durham location and picking it up when it was ready for shipping to California. I did not know UPS had this service. This UPS store mailed a package for me but it came back requiring more postage. I went into the UPS store for them to fix the mistake. Turns out it was the post office that made the mistake but the staff at this UPS store took responsibility for it even though it wasn't their fault. They contacted the post office for me and had my package mailed. The employee that helped me was also very nice to my son (3 year old), which I appreciated very much. read more

I had a misunderstanding (my fault, I was aware) and was trying to clarify for the future by sharing my experience. Before I finished the owner shut me up and raised his voice telling me to shut up and listen to him. What business expects customers with that behavior. UPS is the absolute worst shipping company! I paid for 2 day air on a package, got confirmation emails that it would be on time and the day of delivery get an email stating it would be another 3 days. When I call to inquire I'm told that the high volume for the holidays is to blame, meanwhile the tracking info shows the package sat in their facility for 2 days. Now my math says it's impossible to ship a package in 2 days when it sits in a warehouse for 2 days, no matter what holiday it is. If you can't meet the obligations then you shouldn't sell the option! $50 dollars in shipping for 2 day air and it's going to arrive the same time as a $7 ground package. read more

BEWARE! Horrible customer service and business efficiency. I used the college shipping and storage service. Maury doesn't run an efficient operation. For pick-up and delivery, I had to keep calling to assure that my son's items were taken care of. I was charged an excessive amount of $900 for summer storage. Called the scheduled day of delivery and wasn't on the schedule; was put on the schedule; and then the items were delivered and left at the wrong address. I called several times. Drove around and located my sons's items. Loaded them up ourselves. Maury came to the site after numerous calls. He was rude and argumentative and refused to give any type of refund. I called this location to ask for advice about estimating shipping cost when posting a listing on ebay and they unselfishly told me that USPS Priority Mail would probably be a better choice because they have flat rates, whereas a courier service like UPS varies more depending on the destination. I was honestly shocked by the horrible experience I had with this UPS location. I was having a package sent from another UPS store to this one, where I would pick it up. To make sure that they were expecting the package, I called the location, gave them all of my info, and was told that I'd be called as soon as the package arrived. The next day, UPS tracking showed that the package had been delivered, but I hadn't heard from the store. I called to see what had happened and, after I was initially told that they were never expecting anything for me, was finally told that it was possible that the man who signed for my package had simply signed for the delivery without actually checking to make sure that all of the packages were present (????). They told me that they'd contact me once they had more information. Later that evening, I got a call from the store and was told that my package had actually been received by the store and then just given to another customer with my same last name. The next day, I got another call from the same man, telling me that the customer had brought my stuff was back at the store and that it apparently had been given to the wrong customer because my phone number wasn't on the packaging itself. After a disastrous couple of days with this store, I finally went in to pick up my belongings. I got the (already ripped open) package, was told that this had all happened because my number wasn't on the label, and was asked for $5 to cover the service fee. This was honestly the final straw. I told the man at the desk that I would not be paying for the service and was promptly told to "not ever come back here." I am honestly still in shock after this experience. Somehow, this store was both incompetent and insistent on the fact that all of the blame rested with me. I was somehow even blamed for the fact that no one had written down my contact information when I called the day before my delivery was set to arrive. Honestly, just an unbelievably bad experience. I would not advise anyone to use this store. Ever. From what I could gather, the employees don't want customers anyway, so you might be doing them a favor by steering clear. read more

Worst service ever. I asked them to actually pack the shipping boxes while I was there because Last time I shipped 2 packages they swapped labels so friends got each other's gifts. They refused to pack them because they said they didn't want to keep person behind me waiting. I explained why I wanted to insure things weren't swapped again and they very rudely refused. I asked to speak to Maury because we've been coming here for 10 years and thought he would value our loyalty. Ha! Maury cane out and refused to pack the boxes while I waited! I would give zero if that were an option. I'm really tired of UPS rescheduling deliveries as they want to, when you stay up late thinking the driver is just running behind. Call te Atlantic Ave phone number, and a very nice person gave me the Durham phone number. Called Durham, first was put on hold by a very rude woman who never picked up the call. Called back, and another very rude man said they were dispatching the drivers and didn't have time to look for a package. Called the 800 customer service line, and it was routed to the Philipines, and they operator didn't speak English. I will ALWAYS choose USPS over UPS, but the companies I order from ship UPS. I'm so frustrated and angry that they have NO customer service, and they are soooo rude. I've had enough, and am asking the companies I order from to use other shipping. read more

I have used this UPS store (on Erwin Road) many times. Very time, I have received excellent customer service and several times advice on how to ship more cost effectively and still meet my time deadline for receipt. I have recommended this store to others and they have commented favorably on their experiences. I am not sure who some of the reviewers are referring to as 'the old guy' but a gentleman who appears to be middle aged (+?) has been at the counter when I've been there. Waiting in line, I noticed that everyone ahead of me was receiving the same professional, courteous service I have always experienced. I go out of my way to use this store as it does stand in sharp contrast to variable service I have received at other stores. read more

I came in to buy some boxes to pack my belongings. I mentioned that I would be shipping them with USPS however, and the service provided to me was terrible. The staff member was not rude, although I got a sense that he was being sarcastic. I asked for bubble wrap and he said they only sold 10feet per measure, I said okay. I saw him counting to nine and then cutting the sheet. I asked for one large and one medium box, by mistake though i took two medium boxes, the staff member must have realized this but charged me as if I had taken the medium and the large box. not good customer service at all... read more
