I have been a sole proprietor architect in business for 10 years and have used Staples print…read moreservices for all my printing. In the past the staff was responsive and attentive to getting the jobs done and done right. In this profession late changes are part of the process, and they would work with me when those situations cropped up - until today. I was in 45 minutes before closing. Two Staples employees were working behind the counter with one customer. I told the one "serving" me that I was hoping to get one sheet printed for a meeting I had tomorrow at 8:30 (before Staples would be open). I was told no, it needed to be in at least one hour before closing time and I could come in tomorrow at 9 and they'd do it. I told them that wasn't going to work, thinking that two guys could make something work. They conferred for about 3 seconds and said no. Not "we've got customerS in front of you that have to be done" or any other variant that would have avoided the obvious fact they relying on policy to excuse simply killing time for the last hour. I did tell them that they were losing my business once I was out the door. I would understand if they had deadlines on other customers, but that clearly was not the case. I called the manager once I was out of the store. I asked if he was one of the people in the print area. "Lance" said he hadn't been up there for a bit. I explained my dissatisfaction to which he told me (again, without being up there) that they were working on other customers orders. Not buying that absent "Lance" could tell me something his staff couldn't, but I can see how he's teaching his staff down to his corporate bs level. Anyway, Kopy Korner is right across the street, and I'm taking my $1-$2k/year printing business to them. The "customer service" component at Staples printing is non-existent.
