Over a week before the date on which I wished to pick up the vehicle, I reserved a high-roof cargo van through the Penske web site. Right away I got a confirmation email. On the agreed upon pickup day, when I got to A1 Express Rental Center's Rice Lake place of business, they did not have the van I had reserved. Instead, they expected me to take a cube-truck that would have been way too large, and unfit for transporting our dog. There was barely enough room in the cabin for two people, but not for the dog as well. He would have been relegated to the cargo area, in complete darkness, unable to even see or hear us. Furthermore, the truck had tires with bald shoulders. It was dirty, covered with dust and leaf litter from an overhanging tree. And, frankly, it lacked even a decent amount of passenger leg room. I told the employees that A1 Express Rental Center had treated us shamefully. I lost a day of time by having to go to U-Haul in Superior Wisconsin and rent exactly the kind of vehicle I needed....at half the price that the Rice Lake outfit wanted us to pay. Lesson learned. Do not trust A1 Express Rental Center.
