When we asked about the increase, we were told the portion is now the same as the dinner portion and includes a side salad. However, when our meals arrived, the fish & chips appeared to be the same portion we've received in the past, with the only noticeable addition being a small side salad. The food was still good and our service was great. Our server was friendly and attentive and even mentioned that business has been slow and encouraged us to leave a review, which is why I wanted to share our experience honestly. I understand that costs increase and businesses sometimes need to adjust prices, particularly with a change in ownership. But nearly doubling the price of a longtime lunch special without a noticeable increase in the main portion really changes the value. At $23, it no longer feels like the great small-town lunch special that kept us coming back. We've always enjoyed the Niles and would love to continue supporting it. I ordered an iced mocha--customized with half the usual sweet pumps--and it was balanced, rich, and delicious. The real standout, however, was the Italian Sandwich. Absolutely phenomenal! Perfectly layered, packed with flavor, and easily one of the best stops of the trip. Whether you are a local or just passing through town, the Double-A Cafe is a fantastic spot to fuel up. They have plenty of snacks, a selection of homegoods, charcoal, some toys and shirts. They have a freezer of whole turkeys and hams. They have a good 10 feet of shelf space devoted to liquor. The staff knew the inventory and were all nice. It is always worth exploring for items you need and items you didn't know you needed! It is a welcome alternative to sterile chain groceries who control every inch of shelf space stock from their central computers.

When we went in to check it out simply because we'd driven by it so many times in the past and to buy bottles of water, my husband said "Wow! Look at these old wood floors. What stories would they tell?" So a visit to this little place seems more about that for a road trip traveler than a place to shop. Antelope and deer heads line the walls. An old gas pump sits inside the store as a neat little décor item. A stack of Cook's magazines were behind the counter along with produce that had definitely seen better days in the small cooler, a pretty good selection of candy bars and snack foods and canned goods for such a little place. Sundries too, like a faded box of Calgon bath beads (are those still around...shades of my grandma's favorite soak) and aspirin and hand lotion. We so enjoyed the vibe on a bright fall day, that we moseyed outside with bottles of water purchased from the friendly woman inside who had worked there for nearly 30 years she said, to sit a spell on at the little tables with affixed stools set just off the small parking lot and sipped our water. As we soaked up the vibe, a guy in at truck pulled up at the working gas pump in front of the store and the woman working there came out to ask if he needed Diesel. "Yes ma'am, I sure do" he said. And a guy in a BIG truck with "Likely Volunteer Firefighter" plate on the front bumper came zooming into the lot so fast we wondered if our table might end up on his bumper too. It's that kind of place. It was fun to visit. We recommend you do that too if you're passing through Likely. But thank goodness we don't have to rely on this kind of market day to day for groceries. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: On street or in small side lot. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: A concrete ramp up the side provides an alternative to stairs in the front. Although the ramp is quite steep, and was likely (no pun intended) built to wheel in delivery carts and not for ADA compliance, it might work for some with help. Some inside aiselways are pretty narrow. 3) LOO: None here.
