I spent three days on business in Alturas and stayed at the wonderful Niles Hotel. Niles Coffee Company, which is in the hotel, was my go to place for breakfast, coffee, and a spot to hang out while I worked. It was great. One morning I had a huge omelet, with bacon, and hash browns. It was delicious and big enough to last me through to dinner. I also had the best mocha frappucino ever. Ever. Ever. I order those things a lot, so it was the best out of the hundred or so I have had. I saw some Yelp-Gripes about the service. No gripes here. The two young women who worked there could not have been nicer. My work in Alturas is not finished. When I go back I know where I'll stay, and I know where I'll go for coffee, breakfast, and a Killer Mocha Frapp. read more

Great little coffee shop in Alturas! I was highly pleased to find a coffee shop that offered Starbucks coffee and that was open at 6 AM. This is located in the historic Niles Hotel building and faces the main highway through town. Inside is well done with plenty of seating for quite a few people. read more

Wow. Rude employees, talking to friends, ignoring what I ordered and then they gave me the wrong drink and it was Nasty!!! When i paid she proceeded to look between me and their tip jar. No i did not tip due to rudeness. I waited in line again and they told me I ordered it wrong. Bullshit and then proceeded to charge me 1.50 extra after already paying 5.30 for the wrong coffee. So I paid and when tasted it was still awful. Rude beyond. I figured they screwed it up on purpose because I didn't tip. read more

A little dissapointed that this isn't an actual Starbucks. Prices were a bit elevated. Come on its NOT even name brand!!!! I ordered a Caramel Machiatto with oat milk and the barista proceeded to tell me that they didn't carry oat milk... WHAT IS THIS???? Anyway I decided to order my coffee with almond milk instead and the barista put in 2%. EXCUSE ME?? Some of us are lactose intolerant. After politely complaining to the barista, (I think her name was Aubree) I was not refunded. Seriously dissapointed with the lack of respect in this place. Do stop in here for coffee or tea! This is the only Starbucks for, literally, HUNDREDS of miles. OK, maybe you don't like the idea of a franchised solution to your caffeine addiction. But, please, take a few cleansing breaths and stop here for your fix. This cafe is a small part of the Niles Hotel which, in my view, may be the only reason to slow your progress north or southward on US395 between Lakeview and Reno. The hotel was built by a western pioneer who evidently made his fortune in the extreme northeast corner of California by milling flour. I mean, in that century where did the wheat even come from? Northeastern California is not exactly Kansas.... But the coffee shop is legit: someone kept the pioneer theme, and the baristas brew a good cuppa. They deserve your trade, and you'll love the Niles Hotel and their pride of place. read more

I do agree with the other reviews where they mention that the two females who work at the cashier are very rude. Came here from SF for work and yelped a place for coffee. Decided to come here before work and when I walked up to place my order, there was no "Hi welcome, how may I help you.." Etc. After I placed and got my order, I even said "thank you" and "have a nice day." Neither of the girls who helped me (one who took my order and the other who made my drink) said "thank you." I guess they aren't trained in customer service. However, I do give this place an extra star because they serve Starbucks... And my options in this area were limited. read more

Okay, first off, it's not quite a full five star. I gave it one extra for just being there. In this area, you ain't gonna find very many places (read, "none") where you can get a latte. We spent the night at a house just outside of town, and got up to hit the road. Went into Alturas figuring that if we could rustle up a cup of coffee we'd be doing well. When I saw the Starbuck's sign, I was overjoyed. As most reviewers have pointed out, the place is spacious and clean. Service we received from the on person behind the counter was average to above average. She certainly wasn't rude. All in all, I was damn glad to find them. read more

The coffee is OK, never tastes like the drinks we get at a "real Starbucks". I wish they offered cream based drinks that don't have coffee but they are not available. If you want something without coffee you have to settle for a smoothie. They also don't take starbucks gift cards and your drinks don't count if you have a gold card. We wait and drive to klamath falls, or susanville to get our drinks because of the gold card stars. read more

The coffee shop in the Niles Hotel was a great and accidental find for a breakfast spot. The cheese, ham and vegetable omelets and fried potatoes were very fresh and tasty. And it's always nice to find a place that does a good latte! The crew members who were working the morning I was there were very friendly and efficient and the food arrived in a short time.The shop features in-store Wi-Fi and has retained the charming architectural decor and finishes of the hotel that was built in 1904. read more

Stopped here on a road trip. I got chicken tenders and my brother ordered the turkey melt. The service was pleasant and the food was delicious. The portions were quite large, probably could have split something. I would recommend stopping here for food. read more

Went on a Sunday morning. The clerk at the coffee shop was nice, friendly, and answered questions. Not hot food on Sunday (hence 4 stars instead of 5) but lots of pastries to try. Recommend the scones. Fast, friendly, and clean. read more

Stopped here twice this past week. Once on the way north from Reno to Bend and again on the way back. Had coffee (Starbucks), a homemade cherry filled pastry, and a home made cookie on the first stop. And a salad, soup (clam chowder and damn tasty for not being on the coast) and coffee on the way back. All items were very good. The employees were pleasant and the service was fast. (Important when you are on a long drive.) This is an authentic restored "old west" hotel. It fits right in with the cowboy landscape which you drive through on this route. I will make this my regular stop on this trip from now on. read more

I enjoy having coffee every now and again but the people are so unfriendly that I don't come often. I wished they would wash their hands more often especially after touching money. Every time I order a drink it's always a different price, I tend to order the same thing a lot so it's very confusing. They don't have a lot of speciality drinks and specials. I really wished they would try to be more like the other Starbucks even though they are a franchise. The place however is very clean and can be relaxing. They have wifi and plenty of seating. I live in this small town and frequently visit the Niles Coffee Company. Great coffee, but if you order food, you may be waiting quite a while or have your order completely forgotten about. Out of the handful of times I've been there, about half the time, my order is forgotten or takes over 10 minutes to get to me. The girls that work there are often rude, never smile or seem to just hate working there. While I was waiting one day for my breakfast, the girl behind the counter asked very rudely, "Are you waiting for something?" She was the one who took my order in the first place! Once I finally got my order, they forgot it was "to-go" and dumped all the fruit on my french toast, making the french toast incredibly soggy. There is one girl that works there, Ashley, who is genuinely sweet, works hard to get everyone's orders in a timely fashion and is really friendly. Overall, I'm SO SO disappointed... I live here and probably will choose any other restaurant over this place any time. read more

Came in around 2 pm on 4-28-20 for some drinks, nothing complicated, i was cheerful and very kind, however, the young lady "barista" was extremely rude. Taking the order she was short with us, took no pride in her job or serving us whatsoever, and could care less that we were supporting the business she is being paid by, thus paying her bills. Upon receiving our drinks, regardless of the poor attitude she had given us, I still thanked and tipped her, she didn't so much as look me in the eye, say "you're welcome" or "have a good day," and completely brushed me off. I've worked in direct customer service for 20 years and never treated a patron in this manner! I've supported Starbucks for many many years, but this one horrible experience could very well change that. This girl needs to either have her attitude corrected by her subordinates, or perhaps maybe she should move along to a field that doesn't involve direct contact with customers. read more

We stopped in on our way north. Had the soup and salad with some lettuce on our salad that had gone bad. One small tomato and one cucumber were placed on lettuce for each salad. The celery soup was less than mediocre. The help was less than friendly. We would never stop here again. read more
