I selected The Veil as the spot for my UYE and enjoyed an evening of talking shop with the great J David H. while we drank those great beers. The Veil is a comfortable spot in the Railroad District and we were sitting in their dining area on the ground floor. Big tables and plenty of room this afternoon. Which we needed because that burger and fries needed elbow room to enjoy. I'd only suggest a pump-based ketchup dispenser as the packet thing is tedious. They opened here in 2019 - well after I was done with my projects in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake - transforming this three-story space into a family-friendly taproom and restaurant. The full kitchen specializes in indulgent smashburgers and Neapolitan-style pizzas that pair perfectly with the brewery's bold stouts, hazy IPAs, and seasonal sours. First time and so freaking overdue! The Richmond based Veil is a beer juggernaut that opened up a second location in Norfolk's Ghent hood pre pandemic in 2019. I only experienced the downstairs on my visit with Yelp friend Bruce K. The Happy Hour pricing was a draw as well as stellar reviews. Parking in their own smallish lot on a weekday was no problem. They also have free off street parking too! No debris in sight on my walk up. The signage is the building itself which is darn cool. They also offer outdoor seating. I started off with a Blend which is a Pale and Pilsner if I recall and it was tasty. The counter service was excellent. You can cash tip or card. Customers can also leave a tab open. The seating is wood bench type that comfortably seats six. The aesthetics of the first floor is high ceilings, concrete floors and walls. The kitchen has a garage door over the front. The space was previously a restaurant, but before may have been a factory, or warehouse. Only negative was music was a bit elevated for talking. Prior to Happy Hour concluding I ordered a $6 on special smash burger that comes with fries. No other dudes are available. The regular price is $12, so this is a deal friends. In about 20 minutes burgers and fries were delivered to the table. The look was downright amazing, so pretty much knew this bad boy was gonna be a hitter. The burger comes with double patty, cheese, Dukes mayo, lettuce a pickle. If something else I'm sorry I forgot. The first bite was phenomenal! Fresh bread, perfectly cooked 80/20 beef which was not greasy. The construction was a masterpiece. The thin fries were cooked crispy and seasoned well, yum! Honestly I could eat that burger everyday. We stopped in for the pizza, but we were disappointed. We've had better. The selections of pizza were nice, however; the two we chose really needed more sauce and needed to fill out more of the pizza area. The beers we had were outstanding. Pepp Bois carried a delicious and prominent oregano flavor and the Triple Barrel F was so delicious and thick that the glass it was in was left with wine-like "legs." I have been to the Veil Brewing twice, but both times at the end of a beer crawl so I wasn't able to fully enjoy the experience. This reflects in my check in pictures which is as blurry as my vision was that night. I like this venue because it is versatile. For one, it has 3 levels, each with its own unique flair. The first level is your typical tap room, but with high ceilings, kind of industrial looking and an open window kitchen. The second floor is like a chill lounge. The third floor is like an in door roof top experience. From what I could tell though, you can only order beer on the first floor and carry it up. Sorry no beer notes this time. I honestly don't remember what beer I ordered each time, but they were both good. And on my first visit I ordered their version of what I think was a crochet. It was I think fried potato filled with melty cheese. It was just what I needed after a full day of day drinking. Considering how often I'm here, I should probably leave a review lol I've enjoyed coming to The Veil since the presence of Lil Za, but I love coming here specifically for happy hour. $1 Oysters?! You can't beat it. You can enjoy the oysters raw, Rockefeller, or Motoyaki (I believe that's what it's called). I started off with big trays of half Rockefeller and half Motoyaki, but as of late, the Motoyaki oysters have been my fixation. They're Japanese with miso, cream cheese, mozzarella, greens, Japanese mayo, and panko crumbs. They are so good!!!!!!! I can't get enough of them lol I also love the variety of drinks they have. We come here regularly with a group and it's fine. Probably not a place we'd come to without another reason. They have a pretty extensive beer menu and have some good ones, especially if you're wanting an IPA. The food menu is super limited. It's far from the best pizza in the area and there aren't many other options. The other options are good (burgers, hot dogs, and oysters), but again, super limited and it's really disappointing when they run out of something because there isn't much to pivot to. The vibes are normal brewery vibes and service has always been very friendly. Went here Saturday for a pop up event and really enjoyed myself. There was a live DJ that actually knew how to DJ lol. Many different vendors and small business owners selling vintage clothes, jewelry/ accessories , sport memorabilia; there was a lane for interests of all kinds. We've lived in Park Place for 1 year now, and The Veil has been our most reliable, go-to place for us so far. FOOD/BEER: I liked it when they had Lil Za; the pizza was yummy, but they recently switched to a burger menu, which I haven't tried yet! We only ordered the cheese fries, which were pretty disappointing. They were just fries with nacho cheese; they didn't get creative with the cheese at all. - The beer is always solid, has great prices, and they have several different sizes. - The drinks on the third floor (Only You) are hit or miss, but they switch drinks in and out, so I try something different every time I go. My biggest surprise was their Piña Colada - WOW, it was so strong and so good! I didn't expect that, especially because it was a premix. LOCATION: This spot is so great, honestly. I have been to several Veil locations, and this is definitely one of the best I have been to. The brewery is clean, organized, and well-staffed. It has lots of seating options and different types of seating for different groups. Drink selection was pretty good, especially for the winter. I wished they kept a Pilsner on tap for the winter for variety, but understand that it is not in season. I also got a burger and fries here, and a fried pickle appetizer. I was very impressed. The fried pickles were pretty standard, but I liked the dipping sauce they came with. The burger was excellent; it is probably the best I've had at a brewery. Two smashed patties that were cooked excellent and had a lot of flavor. The burger sauce paired very well. The fries were great too - salty and crispy! I like the Veil and their drinks. We stopped into the Veil after arriving in Norfolk and getting settled into our hotel. We wanted to have a bite to eat and try some local brews. The people here were very friendly and we enjoyed the decor and casual vibe. They have a second floor that was closed at the time and a third floor that is home to a cool cocktail lounge called Only You with a relaxing atmosphere and friendly bartender that greeted us when we walked in. We ended up hanging out downstairs and ordered some garlic parm wings and beers. Food is served inside by Lil 'Za. The wings were nice and crunchy and we loved the sauce. The flavor on the wings themselves was a little lacking in my opinion, but still tasty. We tried a smoothie style sour ale and a gose and enjoyed both of them. I'm a craft brew lover & so while visiting town I had to stop into the veil since I loved their Richmond location so much! New England IPAs are my absolute favorite and I feel like every one that I tried from the veil has been amazing. I wasn't disappointed this time either! I tried toof ache & roommates and both were AMAZING. Roommates is my personal favorite over the other. However, they have SO many beers on tap, and definitely something for everyone- even NA option. Inside there is an upstairs & downstairs bar so there's plenty of space for seating and there's definitely not a long wait to be served. The furniture is accommodating for all, and fits the space perfectly. There's several tables outside which will also be nice in the months coming up. I absolutely love that lilza' is situated inside for serving food, they have tons of pizza on the menu but also options that aren't pizza! It's so convenient to just grab a bite while you're here. The parking lot out front is a plus so you don't have to use street parking if you don't need to. The Veil deserves all the stars and more...for the smash burger they sell alone. This is the best smash burger I've ever had. I just have to jump in and spread the gospel about it. The meat is perfectly seasoned, fries are amazing and crispy, and a beautiful soft bun to top it off (idk if buns are done in house or not i don't care, they work!) if you do nothing else, get the burger here. It's just so good and I've gone multiple times now in one week just for the burger. The veil has some of the best sours I've also had in Virginia. They rotate their drinks, and have them in section by type. I haven't had a sour from them I didn't like. Perfect place to go after work, or for a nice weekend vibe. So went here because it's close to the foot spa . We hadn't tried it before and it exceeded our expectations. First of all the burger was a smash burger double patty which meant as a pregnant person I was able to eat the burger cause it was cooked all the way through. My husband got the chicken sandwich, both came with fries. While we didn't try the pizzas they looked good and would try again in the future. It took about ten minutes for our order to come out. They don't have a lot of nonalcoholic options but lots of beer options. They also have wing and beer specials during the week. I have to say the employee took pride in their work to keep the place clean. I constantly saw even with it not being crowded them wiping down tables and clearing trays. I would return again. This brewery is making some of the best beer in Norfolk. They have an amazing selection, and everything I tried was a winner. My only disappointments were that they did not serve flights, and that a full pour was only 12 ounces (as opposed to 16 at most local breweries at similar prices). It was my first visit and I wanted to try a wide variety, but the lack of flights limited that. They did offer half pours, but at nearly the price of a full pour. The food we had was excellent, having tried both the Buffalo and Vietnamese wings. The Vietnamese has an excellent, Nam Pla flavor to them. They also served pizzas, sandwiches, and other food that all looked good. The space is beautiful with multiple levels of seating as well as outdoor spaces. So there are three levels and each level has a different vibe. The first floor definitely has a stand around brewery type of feel while the second floor has a bit of a hipster vibe. The third floor which is only open on select days and times has a artsy cocktail lounge vibe. The beer selection isn't as vast as I thought it would be and the list is IPA heavy but they do serve cocktails at the upstairs bars. The pizza is pretty good, the menu overall is a bit pricey but it's still good. The service is ok, it depends on which bartender you get. I did ask for an itemized receipt because when I went to close my tab I was cited two different totals that were significantly different. Ultimately my tab did not properly reflect the proper total but when I brought it to their attention they fixed it. Overall it was a cute vibe. I'd go back, I'd reconsider either just closing out after each drink or just asking for an itemized recent once you're ready to close your tab. read more

Otherwise this place is AMAZING! The aesthetic and vibe is unmatched! Wings are their Vietnamese style, my bf was super happy that he got all flats and described them as "some of the best wings he's ever had". He thought the skin was really good and loved the flavor. Two beers are 12oz both the "Never Lost" under their fruited/sour list. We've also had the "Nevergonnagetit" and "Passion Berry Tastee" both 11/10's as well. Double pattied burger of fresh beef with lettuce, shallot mayo, cheese and fries ($13) was pretty good BUT IMHO trail Le Grande, Nouvelle, and Pendulum's burger artistry in taste and value. THE BIG: Pssssttt...the veil made me do it. THE BLACK AND WHITE: The bae and I came here after attending a bridal shower in Va beach. We didn't realize we would be stumbling upon the grand opening of Veil Brewing Co (originally from Richmond, VA) for Norfolk. Let me preface, the place was PACKED. Three stories of the signature black Veil coloring and the beers/foods were flowing. We managed to grab a fried chicken sandwich, which came with fries and a 6oz of the dull fangs IPA. There's a fried chicken craze and Veil brewing helped satiate my craving. You get a heaping mouthful of pepper jack cheese in every bite. The Dull Fangs IPA was awesome, however, I would recommend the mango IPA. I had a chance to take a little sipper and it reminded me of drinking a mango lassi BUT alcoholic! THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall the damage done was $15.50 w/o tax and tip for the fried chicken sandwich and a 6oz of the Dull Fangs IPA. I hit The Veil up twice this weekend during their grand opening and wow....it did not disappoint either time. I was there for the doors to open at 12 noon on Saturday and I was so impressed with their organization. There are 3 floors and they each have their own vibe. On the first floor they have a line for food, a line for beverages, and a line for can purchases to go. This makes everything run smooth and efficient. There is seating on the first floor as well. The outside area has a nice large patio and pergola. Dogs are allowed outside but not inside. My favorite is the 3rd floor for its light, bright and airy felling. Every floor has its own bar which makes getting a beer easy and fast. There are garage door style windows that open up which totally accentuated the third floor view. It's a great place to sit and watch the sunset over the railroad district. The 2nd floor is darker with the music a bit louder. There is a cool nook by the front windows on this floor. There is a decent amount of seating choices on each level. The beers were awesome! I tried a few: the White Miata, the White Ferrari Enhanced, and the Tefnut Mango to name a few.
