We've tried this theater twice and let me say that the reviews about it being oversold, rude employees, under staffed, and dirty are all accurate. Our first attempt was oversold and I ended up with a crying kid, arguing for my money back, and a last minute drive to Reno. The 2nd time (yes, I foolishly tried again) wasn't oversold but there was only one employee doing ticket sales to concessions. I didn't blame the poor kid working for being obviously overwhelmed. The picture quality of the projection was terrible. I've seen better quality on a 2010 Motorola phone. Definitely don't recommend which is a bummer. But your money is best spent elsewhere. read more

My hubby and I have been waiting to see Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny since the trailer was released, so we thought why not see it on our 1 year wedding anniversary trip! but it was the BEST movie I've seen this year, filled with action throughout! If you love Indiana Jones you need to watch the 5th 5 star worthy film! I loved the small intimate theater with great sound and picture quality to the screen! To the rowdy teens who were kicking our seats, it would have been nice to be able to sit up while I watching the movie.. Hubby enjoyed his popcorn with EXTRA butter and we shared a classic large Dasani Water! I'm writing this review as I sit in the theatre 20 minutes after the movie was supposed to start with a black screen and people on the floor. The theatre oversold both movies playing at 2PM today. There was one employee so no concessions were available and the doors do not open until 15 minutes before the movies are scheduled to start. It's 35 degrees so everyone had to wait outside freezing in the cold. Now 20 minutes later there is still a line of people with oversold tickets that will not be able to see the movie. Saw the latest Ant Man movie in February and the experience was great. Friendly gentleman helped buy tickets, wasn't too crowded and was just a pleasure to see a first run movie in a local theatre. read more

Please don't go to this movie theater, I been coming to this movie theater since they first open and I am really mad the way my kids have been treated the last two time they tried to buy tickets, the only men working was rude to them and yelled at my 13 year old son in his face for no reason and told him to get out with his s_ _ _ _ d friends, I really hope he is not the owner or manager he has no right to treat anyone the way he treated my kids he shouldn't be allowed to work in customer service, there are better movie theater in the area, the Art house movie theater is great "they will treat you like royalty" and the incline village cinema. read more

Very cool welll maintained micro cinema that holds 50 viewers. It was quaint and comfortable with a lot of foot room. I was puzzled why there was only five seats across a row. Most folks come in twos so this seat configuration broke up a few pairs. The young gal at the register had her hands full at show time as she supported both tickets and popcorn duty. She was very nice and quite adept at her job. Finding the cinema from the street didn't work so we had to ask a local. Then the entrance was in an alley. A bit weird for a movie theater but it worked nonetheless. read more

We were initially hesitant to come here because of the Yelp reviews but the wife really wanted to see Beauty and the Beast, so we decided to risk it. We were happily surprised by friendly service and an attentive manager. Some of the previous reviews said that the screen was small, but you have to take into account that the theater seats less than 100 people. For such a small and cozy space, the screen was the appropriate size and we had no issues with it. Additionally, some previous reviews have stated they have off brand snacks, that is not the case and they even have seasonings you can add to your popcorn. If you're expecting and IMAX screen multiplex, then yes, you will be disappointed, but if you can enjoy a cozy two screen theater that is walking distance from your resort lodgings, then smile and you'll be pleased. read more

I like the fact that Northstar has hmm Theatre. The kids movie is usually seats on only 20-30 people. I was in line with my grandchild to see the moocher "Sing" and the one person working there was asked how many seats are left? He replied 1. There was 30 + people asked when we're you going to tell us? He then with a nasty smirk asked the crowd if he needed to call security. I spoke up to let ask what is security going to do the parents and there children who are here to see a movie. He then called security...with nothing for them to do the crowd shamed the per son working there. He was a real piece of work and simply not a person who should be in a position that works with the public. Customer service is everything. Next time I attend your Theatre, please have someone with better ethics working there. read more

This theater was very cute! We loved it. It was a tiny bit pricey, but everything in the village is, so it was expected. I was surprised when I went into the theater, reviews had said the screen was small, but the theatre itself is small, so the screen fits the room perfectly. The seats were pretty comfy too, and I'm 6 months pregnant, so I get uncomfortable very easily. The staff was very friendly, and the popcorn was fresh and delicious. They even have flavor shakers to add a bit of pep to your popcorn for free, that was fun! The sound quality was not the same as a ginormous movie theater, but I wouldn't expect it to be. We really enjoyed our movie and thought the visual quality was great. I also ended up leaving my gloves in the theater and they had them for me when I retraced my steps. They were almost as happy returning them as I was finding them! We would definitely return if we make it up this way again! read more

The theaters are tiny but what do you expect from a mountainside cinema?!? The service is friendly and cheerful. The popcorn is delicious! Some of the best popcorn I've had at any cinema. They need to work on the candy selection. "Sour Jacks" are awful! Get some Sour Patch Kids and we're talking. All in all, this is a fairly good value since the prices are actually lower than many other theaters in CA but as noted in other reviews it certainly isn't the best audio and video. read more

The Village Cinemas are located in the Northstar At Tahoe resort. Just went to my first movie. The theaters just opened in April so they are brand new. There are two screens at the theater. The elevated stadium seats are very comfortable and the theaters are very clean. This is one of four cinemas on Lake Tahoe's north shore operated by the same company so the movies rotate somewhat quickly among the four theaters. read more

Maybe they should actually indicate which theater is #1 and #2 That way the employees could direct you to the correct theater The " retired hippy" manager has a head full of rocks If she had had a key ring , you would have thought she was the janitor. We were talking and she was yelling. Maybe she is hard of hearing ?...LOL She claims it is too tacky to install a number indicating which is #1 and #2 It has to be a scrolling LED sign or nothing. After a year year of being open , you'd think that might have been solved one way or another , but ...NO...... Not even hand written sign....which by the way they made out to say the later showing was sold out. I would usually never spend an ounce of my time, on Yelp writing reviews... however, since there wasn't a security guard or human resources employee to be found today, this is the only way to deal with this horrible situation. NEVER IN MY LIFE have I been kicked out of a movie theatre, until today! My husband, mother and I took our two adorable children to see the movie Sing today. We stood in line for about 15 minutes total waiting to purchase tickets and concessions. After about 5 minutes of waiting, I noticed the first incident involving the movie theater manager (FRED). He got into a verbal scuffle with a man and his family, after the man simply asked to peek into the theatre to see the screen size, before spending an absurd amount of money on tickets. The manager then raised his voice at the man and told him "No, that is considered trespassing" and the man grabbed his family and walked out. After Frank dealt with that family, he proceeded to announce to the rest of us about 20-30 people waiting patiently in line that he would no longer be selling refreshments to us. OK.... We continue to wait and I watch the manager storm about slamming the doors to the theaters yelling that if anyone dare step foot into the screening room without paying prior, "THIS IS TRESPASSING"! Mind you, this is a "friendly" resort playing a children's movie. So, my family and I are finally, just one customer away from buying a ticket to this movie, and he begins to talk aggressively to the woman and her two sons paying in front of us. She looks at me in horror and we are both baffled by his condescending attitude and just plain rude demeanor. FINALLY he looks at me and says "WHAT DO YOU NEED?" I said calmly, "May I speak to your manager?" He said he was the manager. I asked him, "What is your name? I be will writing a review of the way you are treating people" He then said I kid you not " YOU NEED TO LEAVE NOW. YOU ARE DISRUPTING BUSINESS" Are you kidding me???? My kids then proceeded to scream and cry as they have never ever seen their mother, father or grandmother treated this way! In all my life I have never been treated so terribly by a grown "Man". I then get home, open the computer and read several reviews almost identical to mine! How is Northstar allowing this third party company to behave this way on their property? This is disgusting! I will never spend another dollar at this resort and I am astonished that a grown man is allowed to continuously treat paying customers this way. We arrived 20 minutes late to the start of the movie because we were stuck in bumper to bumper traffic. When we arrived, there was no one at the desk so we could not buy a ticket or food, making us even later to the movie. We saw some man laying down in one of the seats far from the concession stand and he asked us what we were doing out of nowhere. He told us he worked there, and instead of allowing us to pay and only be 20 minutes late to the movie, he rudely reminded us that we missed the beginning and pressured us into not wanting to watch the movie at all because we were late. We ended up having to leave the theater without watching any movie, what a waste of an afternoon because it took us 40 minutes to drive EACH direction. Awful person who gave us no respect and even worse service. Very disappointed and will never return. read more

This is my second time at this theater. The first time was a few days after it opened so I understood there might be problems (& there were- It was freezing & started very late). Now it has been open at least 8 months and there are still problems. We went to see a movie yesterday afternoon. We paid for the tickets and asked which theater the movie was showing. The attendant said theater #1. We went and looked at both doors and there were no signs and no numbers. How were we we supposed to know which theater? So we asked again, which door was for #1? They told us and we went in & sat down. Get there early as both theaters are very small and #1 is teeny. There was a lot of commotion with people walking in & out looking for seats and it got pretty full. It took about a half hour at least to get people seated and for the movie to start. After another 15 minutes, the movie started and we found out we were in the wrong theater! My sister in law walked out to ask and they denied telling us that it was in #1. My brother and his wife moved to the correct theater but the movie had started 20 minutes before. Two of us just stayed in the original theater because her grandson was excited to watch the other movie & didn't want to move. After the movie was over we spoke with Lynne, the manager. We asked why there were no numbers or signs by the doors. She said that they weren't open a full year yet, so we shouldn't expect signs. We told her we were told the wrong theater & she said that was impossible. She was very unprofessional. I suggested that they write the info on a piece of paper and she said that Northstar didn't allow that. "In fact," she said, " we could get in trouble for this handwritten sign I made saying that the next performance was sold out." I said that it shouldn't take so long to get signs and temporary ones could be used. Lynne said things like this take a very long time. She broke the rules one time but didn't want to write the number or movie name on the doors. This is ridiculous but I guess they feel they are the only game in town. I don't know who to blame- Northstar or the movie theater owners. But avoid this theater. They have no interest in making customers satisfied but just interest in taking your money. read more

The theater itself is small but it's what I expected for a theatre located in small town Tahoe. Everyone was super friendly and the concession line was fast. They offered $1 one time refills on popcorn and soda. The bathrooms were clean and there weren't any issues with the movie. read more

We just saw Star Wars the Last Jedi at this theater. The quality of the picture was horrible. It was really dark and the colors were so off it was almost a black and white movie. The grass on the island scenes looked literally grey. So so very disappointing. I wanted to keep my money local by going to this theater, but will just go to Reno next time. read more

It is the only game in town and enjoyable. But since they usually have only one screening an evening, they should make the $8 popcorn just before the show starts. Bought some tonight, it was cold and stale and freakishly salty. I brought it back and told her and she said " I made it today". It would be nice if they actually showed the movies they claim are playing on their website. Do NOT rely on the website or the recording. Call and confirm what is playing the day you plan to go by calling and speaking to someone. For us, since we have to arrange a babysitter (and did only to find out the show they advertised wasn't what was playing), we won't be making any future plans to go here. They can't even tell you what is going to be playing beyond the current week - not even a few days in advance. Weird! read more

This theater has two screens. The auditorium I was in seated about 120 people, was reasonably clean and modern, and despite some other reviews saying the screen is small, I thought the screen was perfectly sized for the auditorium. I had feared such a small venue would have an underpowered sound system, but I found it to be reasonably good. I was here in the off season, and even so the auditorium was nearly full. There is only one employee that I saw, but he was very polite. I typically stay in the auditorium until all of the credits are done. The theater employee let me know that, although this film had no post-credit scenes, I was perfectly free to remain in the auditorium until the credits had completed. All-in-all, a very good experience. Refreshments are very expensive, but that is true in any theater, so I don't see any point in complaining about that. I would definitely go here again. read more

Let's talk movie theaters. Being in a smaller town (truckee local) it was hard losing the theater years ago, but it was so great when the village theater went in. First off most days there is nobody there, the staff is always friendly and helpful (Fred is a rockstar) the seat are very comfortable, the bathrooms are always clean and they play box office hits! They are super small. And don't let you prepay for tickets on fandango or online. So, don't go there if there is a chance they'll sell out.

The rude staff in this otherwise comfortable theater makes me want to avoid this place. I walked in ten minutes prior to show time to find no one at the counter. After locating the staff I was told that the 12/2 9:30 show was cancelled due to inclement weather. I JUST walked in under moonlight and stars. Yes, it was a bit cold (hello, Tahoe in December!) but inclement weather?? More like ready to clock out clerk. Disappointed, I turned to walk out and the clerk taunted me with "you should have called, I'd have answered." So I should call to confirm a listed showtime during clear weather?
