Almost forgot my photo before I dove right in! Awful awful burger. Comes with fries. $15

I drive by Tahoe Nugget several times a week and just noticed the burger place was open. I stopped by last night for dinner with a friend around 5:30pm. We were the only ones there and ordered the awful awful burger. It is a double 1/3 lb burger with all the fixings along with fries. The burger was cooked medium well and was juicy and flavorful. The fries are steak fries and a little larger and under cooked than I like. The staff were friendly and helpful. The seating is all outside. Most are shaded with umbrella or sun shades. Since seating is right there on Hwy 28, there was quite a bit of street noise. Overall, food and service was nice. Ambiance not so much.

A smaller casino that's been around a long time in Crystal Bay. It doesn't look like anything special but it has loyal customers. Jim Kelley's Tahoe Nugget is mostly known for the casino but they have other amenities like places to drink and eat. Has no hotel if you're staying in the area. The casino has kind of a stink but it's pretty clean though. It gets a lot of locals in the casino. Since this is a small place it's easier to remember customers. The casino is the main thing. It currently doesn't have any table games. The other thing here is the restaurant. It serves basic fried and grilled American food. This means things like burgers and steaks. Here you can get the local version of the famous Awful Awful Burger. There's nothing good to recommend to a vegetarian here except maybe some corn or something. Boring during the day so at that time don't come. It picks up around dinner. They get people coming to eat and locals come after working.

It's a smaller casino but has its regular clientele. Very welcoming and they have beers on tap and bottle. Don't know if the outdoor grill area is closed or closed just for the season. Workers tirelessly disinfect machines. Also, bar tops mechanically disable themselves automatically if it's next to an active gambling machine. Smart social distancing.

On the positive side, there was a wide variety of slot machines and gaming options available, and I never had to wait for a machine. However, I found the gaming experience to be frustrating. I spent quite a bit of time and money playing without seeing much in the way of bonuses, entertainment, or meaningful wins, which made the experience feel more like feeding machines than having fun. The biggest issue, however, was my interaction at the cashier cage. When I went to withdraw additional funds, the employee processing the transaction began offering unsolicited commentary about how I was choosing to access money from my debit and credit cards. As an adult who is fully capable of managing my own finances, I found the interaction unprofessional and inappropriate. Eventually, I had to politely ask that he simply process the transaction and leave my financial decisions to me. Customer service can make or break an experience, and unfortunately this interaction left a lasting negative impression. Between the lackluster gaming experience and the uncomfortable encounter at the cashier cage, I don't see myself returning and would have a difficult time recommending this casino to others.

Location & Grounds: The setting is incredible, well-maintained, and hard to beat. Units & Amenities: Unfortunately, the units haven't changed much over the years, especially considering what they charge. The mattresses are very uncomfortable, the TVs barely work, and many of the amenities feel outdated. The sauna never seems to get hot enough, and I've always wondered why a hot tub has never been added, it would be a great improvement. We also found that basic supplies like toilet paper were very limited. This property has so much potential, and with some updates to the units and amenities, it could easily be a five-star experience. My entire family feels the same way. We love coming here and hope the owners invest in modernizing the accommodations to match the incredible location.

It even snowed on and off the week we were there. Not much to say but the hotel was pretty dead this time of the year since we were in between seasons. Northstar was closed. I called and asked for a reservation modification given the circumstances, and I was completely open to alternative solutions: a date modification, Marriott Bonvoy points to rebook on our own, a refund, or anything reasonable. We just wanted some flexibility. What followed was the usual runaround. We called the Ritz-Carlton directly, they told us they couldn't help because we booked through American Express. So we called Amex, whose concierge team was empathetic and professional. They reached out to the Ritz-Carlton on our behalf. After waiting 24 hours and following up, we were told that Ritz-Carlton management responded via email and declined to allow modifications to the reservation and still expect us at the property unless we pay a $750 cancellation fee. We presented a positive diagnosis of a contagious virus, were willing to accept any reasonable accommodation; a date change, points, anything, and the answer was no. This raises a serious concern beyond our personal frustration. If the Ritz-Carlton would rather a family show up carrying a contagious virus than accommodate a date change, what does that say about their commitment to the health and safety of their guests and staff? How many other sick guests have they pressured to check in rather than lose a night's revenue? What about employees who may face the same inflexibility when they're ill? For a brand that markets itself as the gold standard of hospitality, this experience seems like the opposite.

It was easy to get there from the village and there is clear signage directing guests to the center. Plus, the gondola is scenic and fun! The staff were super friendly and helpful. They reviewed the trail map with me and gave me route recommendations based on the trail conditions following a week of heavy snow. The center is equipped with hot water and clean restrooms. I especially appreciated the Caboose Warming Hut along my route - it was such a treat enjoying a warm beverage in a snowy meadow as I took a break from snowshoeing. There were plenty of scenic trails to explore and I enjoyed the views of the lake about 3.5 miles from the center. I brought my own snowshoes and trekking poles, but they have rental gear if needed. The conditions here seem to deteriorate with each passing year. First, the resort's mobile app is extremely unreliable. The app often indicates that certain trails have just been groomed by snowcats, yet when I actually go to ski them, I discover that several runs clearly haven't seen a groomer in days. This dissemination of false information is not only misleading but also jeopardizes skier safety and severely detracts from the overall guest experience. Furthermore, last month, the Comstock lift experienced frequent operational failures, attributable to staff handling, which clearly demonstrates an urgent need for professional staff training. Second, the management here appears to be extremely lax. During the early morning hours a time when operational efficiency should be at its absolute peak, staff members were observed sitting around chatting in plain sight, completely neglecting their duties. This lackadaisical attitude projects an image of extreme unprofessionalism to the public. Worse still, a male employee working at the ski lifts displayed a rude and highly aggressive attitude. This abysmal level of customer service is absolutely unacceptable, particularly at a ski resort that is supposed to prioritize the "guest experience" above all else. In summary, this was a deeply disappointing experience. Management must take full responsibility for the current situation and immediately implement measures to effectively enhance staff training and supervision. I hope the next ski season brings with it a completely renewed experience.
