I love coming to the Jim Kelly's cap nugget Burger. The prices are still reasonable in the food is pretty darn good. They have a great selection of burgers and other hot sandwiches like a classic pulled pork which comes with coleslaw and barbecue sauce. The pork is slow roasted on site every couple of days and it is so savory! They use it on a bunch of different items like the pulled pork tacos and pulled pork fries. I absolutely love the shrimp Poboy and a new dish on the menu is the chicken Tinga tacos open, (picture below). The outdoor seating has a great easy-going café feel that is so casual that you always feel relaxed. During my visit, I spent a considerable amount of time and money playing, but never really found the experience entertaining or enjoyable. While I understand that gambling outcomes are never guaranteed, the overall experience lacked the excitement and fun that typically keeps me engaged. The property itself also felt dirty and dingy in several areas, which took away from the atmosphere. In addition, I never encountered any hosts or beverage service during my visit, making the casino feel understaffed and lacking in customer service. Overall, this wasn't a casino I enjoyed spending time in, and it's not one I would recommend to friends or fellow gamblers. There are simply better gaming options in the Tahoe area. Extremely disappointing and unacceptable experience! The bartender was rude, aggressive, and openly mocking. After ordering Don Julio Reposado, she poured the wrong shots and responded by saying "avocado" in a sarcastic tone when we corrected her instead of SIMPLY fixing the mistake. She then left us alone and started attending other customers and mocked us again by saying "un momento" in a disrespectful way as she is walking away. Things escalated quickly for no reason--she took our beer, accused us of "refusing to leave" without ever asking us to leave, and threatened to get me arrested! This behavior felt discriminatory and completely unprofessional. No one should be treated this way. I would not recommend this place!! Especially for people of color! read more

I had a very disappointing experience at Jim Kellyey's Nugget Casino this morning with the graveyard bartender Lisa. I had gone back because I had a pizza waiting for me from earlier and came back to pick it up. When I arrived, Lisa acted like she had no idea what I was talking about. I later found out the pizza had been gotten rid of, even though another employee told me she had been informed that the pizza belonged to me and that I would be back for it. Instead of offering a solution, refund, replacement, or even a basic apology, she disappeared for a while. When I finally saw her again behind the bar and asked if I could get a pizza made, she refused and gave excuses about the oven taking too long to turn on and eventually needing to be cleaned. This could have been handled easily. The food was mine, staff knew I was coming back for it, and if it was thrown away or given away by mistake, the right thing to do would have been to replace it or at least taken some accountability for it being gone seeing as she was literally there speaking to the previous bartender when she started making it for me. Instead, the situation escalated. Police were called, I was banned for 30 days, and when I went back in to get my voucher which I never found she was laughing about it talking to her co worker. Finally as I was leaving, she decided she would publicly called me a "crackhead." loud enough for her co worker to hear, I know this because I asked him if he heard her call me that and he acknowledged he had. I have been going there for quite some time and have never had an issue like this with anyone else. Since returning from a personal trip involving this same bartender, she has repeatedly ignored me, walked past me, and avoided serving me. Today felt personal, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. All of this over a food order that should have simply been made right. I drive by Tahoe Nugget several times a week and just noticed the burger place was open. I stopped by last night for dinner with a friend around 5:30pm. We were the only ones there and ordered the awful awful burger. It is a double 1/3 lb burger with all the fixings along with fries. The burger was cooked medium well and was juicy and flavorful. The fries are steak fries and a little larger and under cooked than I like. The staff were friendly and helpful. The seating is all outside. Most are shaded with umbrella or sun shades. Since seating is right there on Hwy 28, there was quite a bit of street noise. Overall, food and service was nice. Ambiance not so much. read more

A smaller casino that's been around a long time in Crystal Bay. It doesn't look like anything special but it has loyal customers. Jim Kelley's Tahoe Nugget is mostly known for the casino but they have other amenities like places to drink and eat. Has no hotel if you're staying in the area. The casino has kind of a stink but it's pretty clean though. It gets a lot of locals in the casino. Since this is a small place it's easier to remember customers. The casino is the main thing. It currently doesn't have any table games. The other thing here is the restaurant. It serves basic fried and grilled American food. This means things like burgers and steaks. Here you can get the local version of the famous Awful Awful Burger. There's nothing good to recommend to a vegetarian here except maybe some corn or something. Boring during the day so at that time don't come. It picks up around dinner. They get people coming to eat and locals come after working. read more

For The Burger Place On The Patio-Warning: ASK before ordering how long the wait is. Just ordered a terriyaki burger there on my lunch break. Place seemed nearly empty, I was polite & tipped. A little over 30 minutes later I asked for an update because I figured the order hadn't gone in. Another 10 minutes later, I received the one burger I ordered. Didn't see any other burgers being brought out that whole time. People who ordered almost 30 minutes after me got their burgers when I got mine. I asked if it was the type of burger I ordered that caused the delay and was told no but there were "lots of orders" ahead of mine. Burger was ok, terriyaki ingredients looked impressive but overall terriyaki flavor was lacking. Tahoe is generally a nice place to eat outdoors and they have sun shades up but it's not the kind of patio you want to be stuck at for 40 minutes waiting for a burger. I'm a local so don't want to be too hard on them. Person who took my order and answered my questions didn't seem too concerned so I assume they are used to this happening to customers. read more

It's a smaller casino but has its regular clientele. Very welcoming and they have beers on tap and bottle. Don't know if the outdoor grill area is closed or closed just for the season. Workers tirelessly disinfect machines. Also, bar tops mechanically disable themselves automatically if it's next to an active gambling machine. Smart social distancing. read more

A fraction of Vegas with all of the smoke. It opened in 1962. You almost expect to see one of those OSHA workplace signs, saying, "No Renovations for 21,901 Days" No table games, no hotel rooms, just a big stale room with 120-200 machines for locals to occupy themselves while staring at your mask. I guess they're known for their craft beers and burgers, and tacos at Joe's Cafe, where they sell something called the Awful Burger. Try it with a side of Shitty Fries. read more

Stayed on the north shore for the first time. Found the Nugget. What a great find. To start, the casino is small,machines only. But, the wife and I only play machines. The service was the friendliest and best I've ever had, and I've been to a lot of casinos. Eric and Nikki (hope I got the names right) ran the bar and casino, were the greatest. I really hate giving a bad review, but today's experience at the outdoor burger restaurant deserves just such a review. My coworker's and I made the trek to Crystal Bay from Incline Village because of previous experiences. One of us got their order in before the drama began. Then it started going downhill. A customer, who had been waiting for his Veggie Burger for half an hour, came up to the counter inquiring whether or not his food was ready. The girl at the cash register went in to look came out with some other food and asked if his name was "Bob" which it wasn't so no his food wasn't ready. He demanded his money back but right then a supervisorish person came from inside saying an order that had gone inside to the bar was wrong. The guy is now left standing there and finally we suggested he take his refund out of the tip jar because the girl now was nowhere to be seen. A nice young gentleman then tried to start taking our order only to be thwarted by the cash register which he apparently was not able to use. Then twenty minutes later... When we finally received our burgers they were 3 inches wide by an inch tall on a 6 inch bun. I had the awful awful so I had a burger that had two patties and as a result was taller than it was wide because the burgers were burnt and overdone. Long story short it was an awful awful experience... I'm not even going to go into the portions for our sides. Jim Kelley! Let us know if you want us to come back and try again on you, because I don't think we would want to come back otherwise. The tiniest of the casinos in Crystal Bay, with the most loyal locals, in fact I was probably the only out-of-towner watching the hardcore mustached poker players. They have a serious player's club card program. No showroom, no circus performers, no museum or photo gallery, no hotel, no logo shop, no fancy restaurant or new car you can win, just gambling. Love the friendly service and the incredibly cheap drinks ($2.25 buys you a draft beer or a glass of wine). But I'm not a gambler, and there's only so much joy you can squeeze out of free popcorn and the local free newspaper. I put a quarter in the slot machine, got five back, blew my winnings on a tip for the bartender, then left after ten minutes. read more

This is a tiny, empty casino. We went on a Saturday afternoon and there were about 3 older locals sitting at machines, staring intently. We looked at each other, unsure what to think, and decided to just try out a slot machine before leaving - might as well since we were already there. I love this casino, it's a small place but that is exactly what makes it a great place, the atmosphere is relaxed and laid back and you do not feel pressured at all, good selection of slots (my favorite) and other games. The restaurant is the best food for the price in a 50 mile radius as well. But the staff takes the cake, every one working there was incredibly friendly and helpful, from the casino floor to the restaurant. My girlfriend left her new iPhone there and when we came back to get it they were super helpful and even asked questions to make sure it was really hers and that it got back to the right owner, if I was going to leave anything again lying around this is where I would do it!! If you're anywhere near here I recommend coming in for the food, the slots, or just to have a drink and hang out! read more

It started pouring rain right after we ordered, so I feared it wouldn't be a good experience with them stuck in that small kitchen. The most unsavory experience I have ever had in 32 years of being a resident in The North Shore! There is one employee in particular named April, that was so unprofessional, who refused to even state her name. She actually threatened to call the police on me because my machine had a malfunction. Due to her lack of knowledge about fixing it she got frustrated and verbally aggressive. I have never felt more violated in my entire life. The worst part of it all was the manager had nothing to say because he knew April was hostile towards a customer and did not know how to deal with the situation. The place is a dark dungy shit hole, with zero class. Not only did all of these events occur but prior to even putting my money into the machine... April was smoking cigarettes and drinking shots at the bar. Behaving in a belligerent manner. Go next store to Crystal bay casino and they will tell you the same thing.
