The Wellness Shots are a must if you need a boost to your immune system. They burn going down and you'll be left with an aftertaste of oregano oil, but it'll be worth it. Ordered the veggie sandwich that has vegan bacon bits in it. I called and asked what kind they used and I was completely shocked!!! They use McCormick bacon bits with the WORST ingredients you could ever put into your body. I would have been better off eating at Taco Bell. I'm and out of towner and was looking for a light lunch option. Nothing looked appealing at Ralph's so did a quick Yelp search and saw that Vitamin Barn had wraps and sandwiches. It's def a unique store and I was hesitant at first but wanted to give this local store a try. Debated between the avocado sandwich vs veggie wrap and the man help me lean towards the avocado sandwich. I'm not vegan or vegetarian but I can appreciate a healthy and yummy sandwich. So glad I got the avocado sandwich! I love Ezekiel bread and it was packed with fresh ingredients. They didn't skimp on the avocado either. Best darn smoothie I've had in a long while! Located in the Malibu Strip Mall Market we stopped by after a hike in nearby Malibu Lagoon. Our hike guide suggested this place as "a great after hike treat" and she was correct! She also warned their prices were high but that the product is good. Both of her assessments were correct. I'm not a big smoothie drinker, so I went in and was trying to figure what to get, lots of variety and wraps that looked good to eat too. Thanks to some recent Yelp reviews and just asking the lady behind the counter what was popular, I settled on the Lean Protein shake. She handed me the green sludge drink and I was hesitant to drink but man, after one sip I was hooked! It was like eating cookies and cream! Not overly sweet though but great flavor! Hubs got a peanut and banana shake and kiddo got a strawberry smoothie but hers was way too sweet and oddly lemon flavored for me. I've wondered why they use "Barn" in their name. When I think of barns I envision animals feeding on hay or oats. Is that how businesses see it's customers? Thankfully there isn't straw on the ground when you enter the Vitamin Barn but there is well stocked shelves with a pretty friendly staff. A coworker recommended coming here for a "wellness shot" because there was a bug going around the office. I eagerly/wearily agreed to get one because I REALLY didn't feel like getting sick. The wellness shot (which I have no idea what's in it) burned going down...but it burnt so good. Although there wasn't a double blind scientific study conducted I was fortunate enough not to get sick. Now I'm a regular customer at the Vitamin Barn especially when I notice sick people at home or at the office. A couple of things to note is that the juice bar area is small. It easily can become congested (ha ha ha. "congested!" did you see what I did there? Anyways...) with just a couple of customers placing orders. Even though they aren't cheap, I've also enjoyed a few different smoothies. My fave is the tropical. I GOT IT! It's called the Vitamin "Barn" because the juice bar is so congested at times that it's reminds me of animals at a trough waiting to be fed. Ugh, that's not the visual I was hoping for :\ read more

I got the avocado sandwich, and was not expecting them to use my favorite bread - Ezekiel bread! I also had the matcha protein shake, which was worth every penny since it comes in a 20oz cup! It was such a pleasure to be at a place that values good ingredients at fair prices. They make everything right in front of you, and in the mean time they are so friendly to talk with. The bonus about going here is you almost always have a celebrity siting. That is NOT why I go, but it happens quite often. I can't be in Malibu without stopping there. Every time I'm there, I have to get The All Green Juice. If you want your alkaline/mineral drink, this is it...full of broccoli, kale, cucumber, celery, romaine, parsley...soooo healthy. Oh, have them add some ginger for an unforgettable zing! The initial reason I got hooked on The Vitamin Barn is the freedom you have there. They have all kinds of protein powders and green powders, etc. to choose from so you can get it just how you want it. In most juice bars, you are subject to their protein powders and not all of them are worthy of consumption! Of the celebrities I've seen there, they always get their lineup of shots. There are all kinds of shots, wellness shots, E3 Live shots, Wheatgrass juice shots, Acai....the list goes on and on. They also have a full selection of supplements and a knowledgeable staff that knows what you need for your particular health issue. Yes, the Vitamin Barn is chock full of homeopathic remedies for all sorts of ailments and the Wellness Shot came highly recommended by a coworker, but my experience at this establishment was sub-par and I left feeling unsure of what actually happened. *Note: this has nothing to do w/ the Wellness Shot itself and its effects, but of the horrible service I encountered while there. I went in a bit reluctant to try the concoction that was said to knock out a cold in its early stages. There were two ladies behind the counter: one very knowledgeable attendant and one who was, I can only assume, pulled off the street to mix the elixirs. First, I walked up to the counter and asked what was in the wellness shot. I got an ambiguous response that made me a little bit more nervous about ingesting this mysterious mix. I learned of a few of the ingredients through the back-and-forth between the two ladies, which, really, turned out to be inconclusive. Next came time to actually prepare the shot. Between her miserable demeanor, disgusting table manners (she was eating with her hands, putting food in her mouth, and using the same hands to touch what I was going to later consume), and haphazard preparation, I was left stunned and wondering if I should even take this shot that contained still unclear ingredients. She proceeded - in a very rushed and abrupt manner - to put several, unmeasured drops of whatever-the-hell-it-was (ginger, oregano oil, and something garlic-y, from what I pieced together. What if I had been allergic? Anyway.) into a plastic shot cup and hand it to me. I asked a few questions, like "Can I drink something afterwards?" "How long do i have to wait?" "Am I supposed to feel like my mouth is numb/I can't breathe?" I took the shot, recovered, and headed out of that establishment, vowing to never go back. In short, I'm glad the Vitamin Barn is around and that it helps a lot of people. Unfortunately, I had a horrible, disgusting experience. Good news, though: my cold never developed, which is my only reason for giving the 1 star. read more
