Breakfast burritos and biscuit with gravy
    Chris S.

This is in a shopping area in a stand alone building. I found it easily, although parking was a bit difficult. The parking lot is rather tight (not their fault), but there is handicapped parking right next to the side door. There is a decent amount of parking adjacent to the building with more across a traffic lane. Seating is a mix of booths and tables which can hold about 50 people. The tables are far enough apart you don't feel crowded. We were seated quickly and our waitress had coffee ready as we sat down. The breakfast entrees seemed limited in what they included (usually one item besides eggs), so the ala cart portion of the menu allowed me to try additional things. The daily special was breakfast burritos (which came with nothing else), so I added a biscuit and gravy. My dining partner ordered the Denver omelet and a side of hash browns. Our food came out in about 10 minutes. I thought the breakfast burritos looked a bit small, but they were filled to bursting. The biscuit was good and the gravy excellent. I finished my meal and was quite full. My dining partner enjoyed her omelet and said the hash browns were cooked perfectly. I thought the coffee was a little weak but the rest of the meal, as well as the service, was outstanding. This is a must try when we are in the area again.

The definitive place to get waffles. While ordering coffee at 7 Brew, Emily and I were hungry and needed somewhere to eat. She picked two places and I took a coin and flipped for where we would go. The Waffle Company won the flip, which was convenient as it was right next door to the coffeehouse. Walking in, it's kind of a janky place. Pure white walls with random assortment of things hanging up on the walls. I didn't have high hopes between the janky parking lot and the odd interior but we sat down and ordered anyways. I got the Bacon Caramel Waffle and upgraded it to a combo (I think that's what it was called) which included bacon, eggs, toast, and those little delicious potato chunks. Emily got the Mexican scramble. Within the first bite, all my trepidation and hesitation fell away. This was perfection. The waffle was every bit bacon, caramel, and delicious from first bite to last. The sides were super delicious as well. Eggs cooked just right, potato chunks full of flavor, toast neither too toasted or almost raw. Bacon was bacon, I was on a bit of bacon overload between it and the waffle. Emily really liked her scramble. I tried a bite and it was hot hot hot. It had an unreal kick to it that made me wonder how she put it down without breaking out in a sweat. I think the final tab was around $30 for both our meals, which I would've paid double for how good it was. The Waffle Company is... and I don't hesitate to say this... the best breakfast I've ever had. This just goes to show that you can't trust appearances for how good a place is. Thank you quarter that I flipped for picking this place.

2 mini waffles and side of sausage patties - syrup comes warm

Excellent breakfast! We were first timers and will definitely be back when we pass thru this area! I got the 2 mini waffles and a side of sausage patties and it was cooked perfectly. My husband got the haystack and said it was delicious. The portion was huge so bring your appetite if you order it! We arrived around 8:30 on a Sunday morning and half the restaurant was full and by the time we left it was completely full. Restaurant was clean and food arrived quickly. Service was good and staff were friendly. Menu was huge and prices were reasonable.

If I could give this place a 5 stars I would on the sole basis of affordability I would. Luckily this place backs it up with fantastic breakfast food. You know it's good when the entire place is packed and the wait is either out the door or pressed right up against it. The line moves fairly quickly but I wouldn't go here with any more than a group of 4 total people. The prices here are phenomenal and the food is great too. The syrup comes out hot and steaming and they'll serve lunch foods for breakfast which I've slowly been trying out as well. Easily some of my favorite things are the hot chicken and waffles. Enough spice to let you know it's there but not enough to make you sweat or cry. Another fun thing to try is the french toast. The fruity pebble and captain crunch varieties are worth a shot. If you can't eat a whole waffle or pancake I highly suggest trying the french toast. The pancakes are titanic, thick, and honestly should be eaten in ones and twos, not threes. The lunch food here is quite good. The cheesesteak is better than it has any right to be at a waffle establishment and same for the reuben. the chicken cordon bleu sandwich's fried chicken is something worth trying as well. All the chicken items here are worth a shot cause they taste fresh out the fryer. Fresh enough to scald the top of your mouth if you bite too quickly. If you have the time for sunday brunch, there's no better place in town to try but this one! Seating may be limited but the staff is friendly and when you're done you just go up to the front and pay, no waiting for checks!

Seating is very limited. Staff is great hence the first star I'll give. The food itself is not really worth the hype or the foot traffic. It is mediocre at best. Even Waffle House has more flavor, being completely honest. It sure looks good but the flavor is lacking. The prices are fantastic however hence the second star.

Maybe a little too much because we ahd to keep flagging our waitress down who seemed a bit scattered. But still she was very nice. Other staff members checked on us several times so we were never lacting in anything. The stake I ordered (medium rare) which I always order came out very rare. If it was a little more done I would not have said anything. But someone from the kitchen stopped by the table and asked if I was ahppy with the tempature. I was nice about it and said, well not really, this seems very rare to me, not medium rare. WIthout complain he quickly took the stake on a side dish leaving the rest of myt meal to enjoy. Teo minutes laters a perfectly medium rare stake came out with a bit of char on the outside, hot and pink while still juicy inside. And it was a very good, very thick streak. Honestly I had wished I'd ordered a large cut. ANd isn't a great steak your looking for when going to a steakhouse?

The restaurant is obviously a local favorite spot as many other patrons were greeted by name by staff or other diners. We seated ourselves in a booth, of which circles the rest of the room with several tables down the middle. Service was quick, sweet tea for me, not often found in Illinois dining, but perfectly done for this southern girl. Hubby was just as happy with his unsweet tea. The homemade vegetable soup was warm, thick with vegetables, even some cabbage, midst the creamy broth. My hand-presses cheeseburger was as delectable as any, and would have been perfect if tomatoes were in season and carried more flavor. But the lettuce was crisp, the onion sharp, and the pickles crunchy. Hubby has a tossed salad and the catfish dinner. The fish was cooked in cornmeal, a real "down home" dish, plenty of it and plenty of flavor. Hush puppies were delicious, but not enough of them. Then, we both ordered dessert even though we knew we couldn't finish them: strawberry cake and a lemon crème pie. Out of this world! The price was reasonable for the excellent food and service, even in these days of austerity. We definitely intend to return to The Grille!

One of the oddest cheeseburgers I can recall ever ordering. While I admire the chef's /…read morerestaurant's enthusiasm to do something exotic, here, it didn't work. It's about execution. The meat was quite odd, both in consistency and taste. If I had to guess, they took reject pieces from their steaks and ground them up, perhaps several days ago? You couldn't cut through it with a fork. It had a strange taste to it. It wasn't at a warm or hot temperature and tasted stale. The onions that they added were delicious, but way too minuscule in size and bulk to have any taste impact. The bun was ordinary, despite their raving and reliance on its quality, and it being a Kaiser roll. The burger lacked customary garnish. Why I order cheeseburgers at high end establishments? In part? I like the quality thick beefsteak tomato slice and crisp, fresh lettuce. Here? No garnish at all, just a patty with a little cheese and onion. If the patty was fresh black angus and juicy, without the weird consistency and taste present here, and had they lavished it with mountains of similar onion and more cheese? --The risky and odd approach to making a cheeseburger might have proven successful. For this cheese to suffice, it, too, would have needed to be more pungent in taste, and abundant in presence. You could barely taste it. The mashed potatoes were quite good but way too salty. I literally crunched down on some salt crystals. That's when you know there's inordinate salt. Weird service and rock hard chairs made this bizarre stop on the way to St. Louis/ Denver more painful to savor. What irritates me was that I had to order a Caesar salad just to obtain roughage. And when you take the $30 for the salad and burger combined into account? That's a lot for such an odd experience. In summary, anyone who watches and implements the Gordon Ramsay Fword cheeseburger recipe on YouTube will end up with a vastly superior cheeseburger. In this town, while I am visiting only, from what I've read and seen in reviews, I'd recommend instead the frosty mug for basic food along these lines. A $24 burger better be pretty darned special to attract this sort of tab. This was just weird, not great. Sorry, no photos.
