I was looking to decompress after work and this place really did it for me. I was lucky the sound bath I attended was very small and intimate. Cozy honey rose tea was served after the sound experience and I stuck around for a bit to chat everyone.. they're all so friendly and insightful. Will be back to try out other classes ^_^

I highly recommend trying and combining each instructor and the various classes provided at yoga circle for a wholistic practice. The three very unique teachers that have distinguished styles are Knekoh, Jacqui, and Rob. I love all three and each teacher serves a precise purpose to my yoga practice. Knekoh for my mindful meditation, Jacqui for a concentration of the body, and Rob for spiritual awakening. The other instructors are also great and are generally a hybrid of these three. If you're up for the challenge, source Yoga Circle as your place to complete the 200 hour yoga teacher training. I was in the 2020 class with Knekoh and Rob. Yoga Circle did a tremendous job at switching from real life training to virtual training. The quickness of the transition was impressive. Both Knekoh and Rob are incredibly dedicated to their students and their own practice. Both have polar yet complementing energies that make the TT special.

Is there really a sense of community in DTLA? Or is it just a frenzied mass of developers fighting for parking lots to turn into loft apartments, businesses fighting for customers, and people who recently moved to the area fighting for...goth ice cream? Until recently, my answer would have been no. No, I didn't believe that there was a sense of community in DTLA. Not like you'd experience in Brooklyn, or Portland or elsewhere. A yoga class I took yesterday at Yoga Circle has changed my mind. A friend and I went to YCD for a Sunday evening class. Steven was the teacher, and his calm demeanor was instantly welcoming. I got settled in and noticed something different: Steven was doing all of the moves he was instructing the 7-person class to do himself. Apparently this is how they approach things at Yoga Circle. And it really helped me understand the poses. I'm a visual learner and knowing that you can watch the teacher practicing makes it unnecessary to find someone to watch in the class. I found that I could go deeper into my own practice because of this. The room was pretty special too. I'm generally quite skeptical of any comparisons between DTLA and New York, but between the high ceilings, worn but wonderful floors and the fire escape view out of a high window, I really felt like I was in the bottom floor of a building in Crown Heights, with the city swirling outside. The class was anything but easy: 90 minutes, about 40% beyond my experience level and rather fast-paced, but I think I did pretty well. I'm sore today but I feel energized and I slept incredibly soundly. Steven, thank you for such a great class, and Yoga Circle Downtown, thank you for creating such a great space to practice. I'll be back. There is a sense of community at Yoga Circle -- and from what I've recently experienced, in DTLA -- that I'd love to be a part of again. Side note -- For people who think that they can't afford yoga classes, apparently Yoga Circle has a donation-based / sliding scale system.

The studio is nice and spacious with high ceilings and the temp. during class was perfect not too hot or cold. When you come in you check in, and they have little cubbies for your stuff at the front. Aleeya gives modifications too as needed. It's definitely different on the x reformer compared to the normal Pilates reformer I'm used too. But good and challenging in a good way! I'll definitely be sore tomorrow ! I used class pass and this class was 13 credits. I'll def come back!

Loved the openness of everything. The entrance and signing into the class was a bit messy and hectic, the entrance was under construction and the man at the front handing out the waivers and such seemed a bit overwhelmed. Didn't feel super welcoming. Streamlining and organizing this section would def help put clients more at ease since I was starting to doubt the class in the beginning.-BE SURE TO BRING A YOGA MAT! The man followed me around asking where i got my yoga mat and even when i was leaving asked if i am taking my yoga mat and where it is etc- very annoying, bizarre and frankly off putting as hell. he was anything but welcoming so i suggest you remove him from whatever he's doing in the front. never want to come back. apparently you have to pay for rental yoga mat. But even before I get to the class, the entry entryway and the vibe of the whole place is off because it's so worn out. i'm scared the fabric will fall off the hook and it's extremely smelly and overall unstable and worn out looking- not sure if i can trust the hanging to support me but that's the attorney in me talking. everything i see seems like a liability, especially their old hooks and the way the instructor walks around with a huge ladder in a crowded class. Next the class itself- instructor spent majority of the time making us stretch and adjusting our fabric. it was such a waste of time. don't do it if you're trying to get a workout in.

A smile & question: "First time?" Another line of students began to form, but the moment wasn't rushed. Directions were given. Questions were answered. Full attention stayed exactly where it was. Looking back, the teaching had already begun. That kind of presence is contagious. * Field Note: Whoever is standing in front of you...make them feel like they're the only one there. (I've got some practicing to do.) The Guide - North Ray Flow 2: Áine O'Regan We began in Supta Baddha Konasana, connecting breath before movement. Áine set the tone: See if you can keep your breath as steady throughout class as it is right now. If your mind wanders somewhere away from here...bring it back to yourself, back on the mat. From there, the class unfolded in such a gentle climb that an hour felt effortless. The cueing was so fluid that as we repeatedly moved from Star Pose into Goddess, I disappeared into the rhythm of Levo (Club Edit) by Recondite. (Completely immersed.) They've found the Goldilocks of hot yoga: The heat, the lighting, the pacing, the music, the movement. Everything feels just right. (If you're curious about hot yoga, this is an easy studio to recommend.) The Tribe: Presence in Practice During my short visit, I noticed people holding doors for one another, making eye contact, and smiling. After class, when I asked Áine about the music, she didn't simply tell me the song. She walked me through Spotify until we found the playlist. Space & Place: Modern bohemian Exposed brick. Skylights. Warm wood beams. Infrared heat. You'll leave drenched...somehow more energized. The Takeaway: Presence Is Contagious I came in open to whatever surfaced. Tonight...it was presence. It began at the front desk. Continued with the breath. Ended in Savasana. Some studios teach yoga. Some embody it. North Ray is one of them.

I had tried a couple other hot yoga studios, but I became a member at this studio because of the facility. It's clean and did not have any lingering odors. I have major sensitivity to scents/odors... Although I cannot do anything about scents/odors coming from other patrons, most are mindful. The staff here are all great. I appreciate the inclusiveness and enjoy the different classes for different levels. The only negative thing I would say about the location is the parking situation. The paid parking lot isn't really ideal, metered and street parking is scarce. Parking seems to be slightly better in the evenings. Overall, Modo Yoga has a special place in my heart!
