They do not honor the Yelp check in offer but the fish 'n chips were better than the one we had on our food tour in Boroughs market! The lightly battered haddock was delightful with chips and mushed peas. Their Belgium chocolate brownie was surprisingly the best one I've had in a long time! Service was friendly, the place had a nice consistent flow of newcomers even at 21:20 on a Thursday night. It was nice to see singles who would purchase an ale at the counter, sit down at one of the small tables, enjoy a pint, then depart. A local favorite watering hole!

Great spot for a great roast but make sure you come with an empty stomach! We came around 3pm and the pub was quite quiet. It gets busier as the day goes tho. We went on the first day of the year and the service is just as good as how you'd get from a pub if not better. There's 5 options for roast - roast beef/sirloin, roast chicken, pork belly, veggie roast, and a sharing one which include the beef, chicken and the pork belly. We are a party of two so the sharing one is perfect because we were already ready to order two roasts. Oh my god. There is so much food but we were so ready to eat. Not only do they give you two Yorkshire puddings, beef, half chicken, pork belly like they promised, they tuck in a few sausages and pigs in the blankets in the mix which is such a pleasant surprise. Everything is cooked very well - I found the beef usually tend to be pretty dry but their beef was done very nicely. The pork belly isn't too fatty and it was balanced with other sides so it's really not bad at all. Just great.

Very nice corner pub with very good service. There were not many people in there for lunch. The haddock was cooked perfectly, except it had much more batter than other pubs I've tried in London. I was most impressed with their mushy peas. As you can tell from the close up picture, the peas were not whipped into a paste, but lightly mushed preserving the flavor of the peas.

SHORT REVIEW: fantastic beer, amazing staff, beautiful decor, and the old english pub home to Freddie Mercury. What an amazing venue. We went here after the churchill was closed, and we were absolutely blown away. The pub was packed, full with a lovely atmosphere and engaging energy. The staff were very educational and conversational.

We were looking for a Sunday Roast and The Champion delivered. We made reservations but showed up earlier and were able to be seated which was awesome since the place was packed. We ordered a hibiscus spritz, pardon peppers, crispy cauliflower, scotch egg, side salad, and roast dinner to share. Unfortunately they didn't have the original yuzu spritz that I wanted but the hibiscus was tasty and refreshing. Also unfortunately they ran out of scotch eggs so we didn't get to try those. The Parton peppers were okay. They were large and seedy. Flavor was good though. The cauliflower was delicious and came with a yummy aioli but the portion was tiny. Side salad didn't taste dressed. The roast dinner however was fantastic. Now this is our first one but I was surprised at how much I liked it. I love the variety you get and it's a good portion for 2-3 people. The best part was the au jus because you get a whole jug. Seasoning wise, everything could have been more flavorful but nothing a little salt and pepper can't help! Overall a wonderful meal in a super authentic feeling English pup with nice staff!

Being from California, I don't have a whole lot of experience with pubs. But if I were to imagine what a true pub would look, feel, and sound like by virtue of storybooks and movies, this would be it. The interior is cozy and dimly lit with a rather old-fashioned feel. The menu is impressive with a full gamut of stick-to-your-ribs food and some seriously amazing beers and ciders. My newest jam is Sunday Roast, which I've only had a few times in my life, and the kinds they're making here are superbly unforgettable. I got the Chicken Roast with a medley of fresh seasonal veggies and a few meaty add-ons for good measure. And let's not forget that serving of Yorkshire Pudding and wine jus reduction. I washed the enormous portion down with what must be the crispiest, most perfectly-balanced cider I've ever tasted, served in a huge glass. Add to all this impeccable service and attention to detail, and there was nothing about my experience that I didn't like. Whether tourist or local, you have to try this place at least once.

Excellent place love the atmosphere. Food is excellent and the service was great. Our server Dolly is great and spunky, we loved her. I'm so glad I stopped here. There's a lot of history in all pubs in London but this place will always be special to me. Love you Freddy Mercury

Fish & chips came out quickly and tasted exactly right. Crispy crust on haddock. I recommend! Busy today at 6 pm. Server was new but wanted to please. Nice corner pub!

I was thoroughly impressed by The Champion. My family and I had just gotten off of my flight from the US, several hours prior to coming here and were looking for something good to eat close to our hotel. Our server, Mallory, was very attentive and recommended dishes that we all enjoyed. I ordered the fish and chips and Aspall Cyder. The flavors of the fish and chips combined perfectly. It was my first time having mashed peas, and I loved the sweetness of them. The prices were reasonable and the location great, in close proximity to Hyde Park. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone in the area looking for a good meal.

We ate here for our last dinner in London. The food was amazing, but the service was slow. I had a steak and it was delicious!

We specifically came to try fish and chips, so we were lucky that The Mall Tavern was nearby. Each of us ordered fish and chips, and all of our plates were left nearly empty. My goodness, I have never had better fish and chips than here at The Mall Tavern. The fish was crispy, and the chips were perfectly salted to taste. I appreciate that chips in England are more like potato wedges than classic American french fries. Way less fried and way less salty, so you can enjoy the actual taste of the potatoes! I also ordered a side of Mac and cheese that we all shared. I don't know what kind of cheese(s) was used, but it was the perfect starter to our meal. For dessert, we had the sticky toffee pudding for the first time. It was hard not to order another one!! We came in for late lunch, so the restaurant was empty. I assume they are much busier at lunch and dinner time. I also enjoyed the selection of beer while we waited for our food to come out. Next time I'm in London, I'm returning here immediately.
