Cheers to the best Espresso Martini in town
    Christina H.

If you don't know what a dive bar is, you'll understand the second you step into the Water Tank. Inside, the space is small--two pool tables, scattered TVs, random bar games, and dingy dining sets. It's got that East Austin vibe, but make it grungy. Not being used to the scene, I went with my go-to drink: an espresso martini. The bartender was visibly annoyed and told me she didn't have the ingredients currently. Keyword: currently. Noticing this keyword, I asked when she would have them, since her answer seemed open to interpretation. She sighed and said she would have to walk over to their newly built coffee bar for the said ingredients. Was I nervous that I might end up with an extra ingredient that shouldn't be in there? Absolutely. But, the ship had already sailed. When she brought it over and I had that first sip--holy hell. It was the best espresso martini I've ever had in my life. Needless to say, if it weren't like pulling teeth for an espresso martini and in a more sterile environment, I'd return.

Came here yesterday for the crazy wing and chili dog deal for the UT game and they hit the spot. I don't recommend the garlic butter wings but the I definitely recommend the kickin bourbon flavor! Service here is always pretty fast and overall this place has a great, laid back vibe. I love the outdoor seating here and the amount of parking in the back!

This place is the best. It feels like home away from home. The atmosphere is great, everyone is super friendly! The patio area is always great, shaded and GIANT TV with sports on! On the inside, everywhere you turn there is a different vibe. Bartenders are great and you can always grab a bite from Super Burrito if you get hungry!

This place is as close to cheers as you can get. Has live music and karaoke. Very friendly nice bartenders they know your name and drink. Truly a family away from.your family. If you u r not at the WATER TANK your missing it. Brad Townsend.

I absolutely love this venue! While you can sit inside, you HAVE to go outside to the back of the bar. The picnic tables fit groups, and the bar gives great service. They have a menu with great choices. So there is no need to eat before coming here. I will note that the appetizers are huge!  While appetizers are intended for groups, these filled our group up. That is definitely not a complaint! Something else I really like is that they have 3 different cider offerings here. That was really nice to discover! A great plus is that sometimes you will be entertained with live music at the stage in the back. The Water Tank is a terrific bar!

Great atmosphere with an awesome crowd. You can sit inside but all the fun is outside in the back. There is a live band or sports on the big screen. Steak, salad and potato cooked outside and tastes like a homemade steak off the grill! Down it with a margarita or whatever you like.

Great place to have some drinks and watch football! Huge TV inside and outside. Beer is cheap for Austin and food is decent

Ask the Community - The Water Tank

    Can you smoke inside?

No, but we have a large backyard beer garden

Do they have a different parking lot then the one in the back?? Or is that it?

The one in the back is almost always available. Sometimes on weekends the parking lots are both full, I've parked at the firehouse subs across the street.

Are we allowed to bring outside food in?

absolutely not, they have food service, go to a bar with less scumbags

    Is this place dog friendly?

Yes it is. You should go check it out and bring your dog

We ordered our drinks from the bar. I wanted to order some food, but that was at another window. My cocktail was called peaches and dreams. Very nice, not too sweet drink. I ended up having it twice. We also got a strawberry Jell-O shot too. Which was really good. Would totally get 2 of those next time. I ordered crab rangoon's, but they looked different from what you would normally get at a Chinese restaurant. Just shaped differently. Flavor was great. Their dipping sauce was good too. I think there was 5, and we shared. They do play music, on a high tech jukebox, so you get to pick and choose the songs. Some people have a very different idea of music. But, then someone else plays something like zombie by the cranberries, so it balances out. Great night catching up with my friend. They do have a patio. I didn't see it, but I know there is one. And they allow dogs on the patio too. Parking lot is smallish to medium, and they have street parking, and I don't believe it is a paid street parking. It's just a side street.

Peaches and Dreams ($10): Sweet and fruity with a lot of sugar. You could not taste the alcohol at all. Raspberry Mule ($10.31): Tasted like a THC drink which was not what we were going for. Mezcal Negroni ($11.34): Strong but did not taste good. Prairie Watermelon ($9.27): A sour beer that was actually not bad and the best of the four.

We were looking forward to trying a few different drinks, but unfortunately the experience was disappointing from start to finish. When we arrived, the bartender wasn't welcoming and seemed more inconvenienced than interested in helping us. I asked about an advertised special and was told they were out. I then asked if they had a whiskey list so I could see what was available for an Old Fashioned, but was initially told no because they were "redoing the pricing." I had to clarify that I wasn't asking about prices, I simply wanted to know what whiskeys they carried. Instead of providing any guidance, we were told to look at the bottles behind the bar and choose from those. After ordering, we were informed they were out of oranges and asked if we wanted a lemon slice instead. At a bar that specializes in whiskey, not having oranges for one of the most classic whiskey cocktails was surprising. We declined the lemon, and the Old Fashioneds themselves were below average, especially considering the price. To make matters worse, another employee came over while we were sitting there and began loudly complaining about how slow business was, using profanity within earshot of customers. It came across as unprofessional and only added to the poor overall experience. The bar wasn't busy, there were multiple bartenders and only a handful of customers, so it was disappointing that the service still felt inattentive and unwelcoming. We had planned on spending the evening there and trying more than one drink, but after our first round we decided to leave and go somewhere else. I don't mind paying premium prices for quality drinks and good service, but this experience delivered neither.

And, at both breakfasts Amy made me feel especially welcome! The table came with a bottle of water for self-service, which I appreciated. The wine list was of good quality. My server at dinner was able to give me a solid recommendation for one to pair with my salmon. She was dead on with how well it complimented the fish. As for the salmon, it wasn't overly seasoned and was incredibly flaky. It was a good size as well. For breakfast, The Breakfast Plate's eggs were cooked perfectly with appropriately cooked bacon. I enjoyed the potatoes that accompanied it as well. The Buttermilk Pancakes meal was a failure though. The pancakes were gooey inside. My server, Amy, offered to have them remade, but I declined the offer. So I accepted a parfait, which was easily one of the best I've had in Austin. The granola with the berries were perfectly balanced, and the granola wasn't super chunky. Amy was 100% invested in my meal satisfaction. The dining room is quite pretty with lovely set tables. Every time I ate, I felt a tad underdressed! But they don't care if you're comfortably casual, and i saw a family with small children looking very relaxed and vacationy and they were welcome.
