My car had standing water in it from being parked on a street that flash-flooded during a crazy Texas summer storm. The water level was high enough on the street for the water to go in through the bottom of the doors. It stunk and refused to dry out over the next couple of days so I started calling it Swamp Car. After reading other reviews on Yelp with similar water issues and/or Swamp Cars, I called The Wax Shack. They bent over backwards to fit me in ASAP and explained every step of the process to me in a friendly unpretentious way. (I had never had my car professionally cleaned before.) Their customer service is top notch. They let me pick up my car at my own convenience after hours, and it looked cleaner inside than it's ever been since it was new. I'm not particularly fond of the smell of the cleaning products, but other than that I am extremely satisfied. Let me preface this by saying that I am a true car buff, and I LOVE my cars to be clean and shiny. That being said, I was impressed with George on the phone prior to my visit, and he was a very nice gentleman throughout the process! I took my wife's 2007 Sequoia in for detail, prior to selling it. They told me it would take about 5 hours, so I chose to leave it overnight and pick it up the next day. Prior to bringing it in, I talked wtih Shawna about doing some spot paint touch up. She recommended I go get the correct Toyota Paint from the dealer, which I did prior to bringing it in. Unfortunately, the paint touch up bottle was never used and was put with my other belongings in the middle console, so I ended up having to wait for George to do the "touchups" instead of being able to pick the truck up and go. George tried to claim that because I didn't TELL HIM specifically about the paint touch up, that was something they didn't know about doing. Luckily, he was nice enough to do the work that his employee guaranteed me they'd do! While I was waiting for George to get done, I started walking around the truck and noticing that many areas still had wax stuck to the exterior and inside the door jambs, so I proceeded to use my t-shirt (I had a crummy shirt on that day!) to clean all that wax off. George, being the owner, should have noticed this, but he did not. Not really a big deal. There were also a couple of spots under the hood (an extra $50 to detail) that could have been cleaned better. I thought they actually STEAM cleaned the engine bay, but I think all they do is put a sheen dressing on everything to make it look slick. The valve covers still had grease/oil on them, but again, I was not in a position to have them re-do these things, because I was dropped off there and did not have time to waste waiting for that to be redone. I read the other reviews and I TOO could have sworn that I brought the vehicle with more gas in it than was there when I picked it up... it was on empty with the gas light on. I'm pretty sure it was not that low when I brought it in, so I encourage folks to check their mileage when they drop it off to make sure no funny business is going on. All in all, my experience was good, but for $350, you really should have (and receive) good results. I would return here should the opportunity arise, but would make clear what I wanted in writing beforehand. read more

Well, let me ask you this; do you want your car to look like it just got washed at the gas station? Or do you want it to look like newer than when it rolled off the lot? I took advantage of the neat deal of the Wax Shack picking up and dropping off your vehicle when you enlist their services, and that made everything even easier. My truck came back looking like it had been coated in diamonds and wrapped in mirrors. The wax job was so good, it blew my mind. The few dings and scratches were imperceptible. A few days later it rained and my car had many rain spots (though still looking spectacular) so I called George up and he offered me an awesome rain check. Thirty minutes later, and it was looking gorgeous again. Top notch service, fair price for the quality, and generally excellent business. You learn something new every day. Today I learned that Hyde Park's speedway was literally used as a speedway for racing cars back in the day. Don't get too carried away because this was back in the early days of the automobile and they were only going about 25-35 mph down that road. It was Avenue E but everyone knew it was a "speedway" so they eventually made it official and changed the name. Wanna know how I learned that? I took my car in to be detailed at Wax Shack and George, the owner, gave me a ride to my house while they worked on it. During the ride I got a little lesson in Austin's history from someone who has lived it. Awesome! Anyway, back to the detail job. I have a 335i hardtop convertible and it's like brand new since I picked it up. Great job and reasonable prices along with stories of old school Austin on the way home. Excellent. A quick tip for young players.. Don't let goats jump on your new car. My wife has a nice silver Malibu, which she uses to bring feed home for our pet goats. Well, the goats know where the feed comes from and decided one day to try to break into the trunk. Long story short, the paint job ended up with hundreds of hoof scrapes. I took the car to the folks at the WAX SHACK. Not only did they drop me back at the office and pick me up when the job was done, but my wife's car looks like new. This place is great. I had the exterior of my Tahoe detailed here first. It was black and had a lot of surface scratches. The owner George came and picked it up from my work and brought it back to me a few hours later. It looked great! Most scratches were gone and my headlights looked like new again. The wax job made it shine like I have never seen before. I just got my 4runner back from here that I had just purchased. This one I had the interior and exterior done. The interior was stained, dirty and had a smoke odor. The person who owned it before me was a pig. I can't believe how well the interior turned out. Stains are gone and they got the odor out. Every inch of my interior was cleaned. It looks amazing. Once again George picked it up from my work and brought it back to me. This is by far the best place to get your car detailed. What a great experience I had at the Wax Shack! The last time I took my car for an interior detail, it was a birthday gift card to Genie on Burnet, and they did an okay job with cleaning, but a) used a lot of incredibly strong-smelling chemicals that gave me a headache and took days to dissipate, b) left the seats nearly soaking wet and I had to sit on towels for two days, and c) left streaks everywhere and pools of sticky cleaner--maybe armor-all?--in places like the cupholders, buttons, dash, etc. Not a great job, and certainly not worth the $150 they were paid. The Wax Shack was a total 180, from moment one. I called on a Thursday to see if I could squeeze my car in for the weekend. First I was given the rundown of a full interior/exterior package for $250-300. After explaining that my budget was $150 and I could probably just clean the exterior of my relatively-new car myself, Shawna from Wax Shack didn't try to haggle or upsell me, simply explained the details of a full interior detail and asked me when I'd like to schedule. They were booked up till Monday, but she put me on standby, and five minutes later happened to get an opening, so I was able to get my car in the very next day. Dropping off and picking up were a breeze and everyone was incredibly nice and helpful. I was told upon picking up that they only take cash (I hadn't been told this previously--so beware), but they were completely fine with letting me drive out to an ATM to get cash to pay. The interior detail is FLAWLESS. My car looks brand new! I have two white dogs and there is not a single speck of pet hair in my black interior. Whatever cleaning products they use have a gentle, not overpowering scent, and the seats were dry, dash perfectly buffed--no pools of armor-all here or streaks left on the glass! My driveway at home is fine red gravel and it gets EVERYWHERE, but there is seriously not one tiny grain of it anywhere in my car. I'm so impressed and happy. Best $150 I've spent in a while, and I will be back every 6 months for sure. All told, this place is as good as it gets. Locally owned (I think I might actually have met the owner when I picked up my car), great friendly service, WONDERFUL work that is completely worth every penny. Just went in for my second Wax Shack service - this time a full detail and headlight restoration. I can't speak to their price - I didn't shop around for that. But the work is immaculate. The headlight restoration is no gimmick, and they made my 2009 VW look as New as it could with its wear and tear. If you want your car SPOTLESS and SHINY and your old headlights to be as clear as possible - roughly 1/10 the cost of new VW headlights - the Wax Shack is the place. I called on a Monday to get an oil stain taken out of my passenger seat ( I really thought it was ruined forever) and they were able to get my car in a few hours later. Brought in my 1992 Civic, they cleaned, conditioned, polished, shampood, degreased, dusted, even painted some of the engine bay. I have NEVER seen my car look this good! They clerks at Auto Zone were amazed. They do a great job every time. Don't fall for groupons with a $75 detail, you will be disappointed. This is the best place in town. I've learned not to expect much from auto detailers, the $$$ detail looks as good (or bad) as the $ detail. The Wax Shack was no different. Very expensive, more than $200 for a full detail. On picking it up, wax was on 50% of the black plastic. This was simply wax that was not wiped off. On the inside, the center console was still filthy, the cup holders still had spilled coffee in them. I had them fix the mistakes. When I went back to pick it up everyone was gone, the car was left unlocked in the lot with the key under the mat. No phone call. I don't mind getting a mediocre car detail for $15 but for $200 you expect more. You should not have to point out lazy mistakes. read more

Last day of work. Convenient to my job. I asked them to detail the inside of my Land Cruiser and skip the 3rd row. They picked me up both ways as agreed, I paid and left. I gave the driver a 20 dollar tip and tipped 16 when I paid my 129. Turns out they cleaned the windows in the third row but placed a heavy box of stuff on my subwoofer to gain access, destroying my Infinity Basslink by caving in the top. The "owner" wants me to stop by and asked me a series of ignorant questions to try and figure the situation out. I asked her to come by my place on her time and she responded by stating "it's close to your work". It's my last day, going on extended vacation. Thanks for nothing "I Am the business owner". I took my 2008 Prius to The Wax Shack yesterday and was amazed at the outcome. I have 2 large dogs that ride in this car to the park daily (including swimming in creeks), and after 5 years of neglect, the interior was disgusting.
