We stayed three nights for a family event over the weekend. The motel is a renovated old-time, drive up motel. The rooms were clean, with a king-sized bed and huge pillows. It had a roll out table to eat on that was very convenient! The bathroom was tight, but clean and doable - lots of hot water and great shower pressure. The rates were very reasonable and the workers were pleasant to deal with. We'd definitely stay there again. We also ate at the on-site restaurant. The food was delicious! We had stuffed mushroom appetizers, with Italian gravy (not sauce!). So yummy! We also had bruschetta and they were excellent too. The entrees we had were cheese raviolis, cheese burger, Caesar salad with fried chicken strips. All were excellent too. We also had Penn State Creamery ice cream. I had Death by Chocolate and my niece had 'Happy Happy Joy Joy'. Both were delectable! read more

Restaurant Only Review: I had heard stories that this restaurant was great for wings and cheesesteaks. I didn't believe it being from the area, I couldn't imagine anything positive coming out of this location. I was wrong!!! The Owner's did a great job with this restaurant/sports bar. If you like Penn State than you'll enjoy the visit and the decor. Plenty of parking and a decent amount of seating. TV's on every wall and the NCAA wrestling tournament was on with an excited crowd to watch. They have a big menu. My one recommendation would be to condense that down to a few staple items. We ordered a 1/2 dozen wings with the "3rd degree" sauce to start. Our waitress brought out the "Pigs fly" sauce in a cup to try as well. Overall, the wings were meaty and fresh. The sauces were good but I'd probably step it up to "dragon fire" if you like it spicy. I heard the cheesesteaks with wiz were amazing and as close to a philly as you could hope for in central PA. I ordered a "Chef pat's way" with no ketchup and boy was it excellent! Freshly sliced ribeye, whiz, fried onions and hot cherry peppers. Just typing this is making me want to return. I forgot to mention that philly style roll. Nicely done...I'm a fan! My wife, being italian, ordered the pasta dinner that comes with two large meatballs smothered in 'gravy'. It was a huge serving and she approved. Our waitress was awesome and we really enjoyed her company and help (seeing we were new to the restaurant). We ordered as a appetizer onion rings and pepper shooters. Soooo for the price of 4 very tiny shooters was a little discouraging cause I mean $11 for those I dunno. We both had cheesesteaks which was definitely a huge difference and absolutely delicious. The only thing, I specifically asked the waitress if the mushrooms in cheesesteak were real or canned. She described these big mushrooms they cut up just to be served the rubber canned ones. Now my complaint as a turtle lover, it brings my spirit animal haha! I was shocked they serve turtle. Growled at my husband for taking me to a turtle eating restaurant haha! Not their fault just my hubbies! I definitely recommend the food though the subs were fabulous! read more

I was so excited to try this place as someone told me it was a nice local spot. Well I was disappointed to the fullest. I ordered a medium Rare ahi tuna salad. The tuna didn't have a good sear, it was raw, and the salad just consisted of lettuce. Once the rest was notified of my issue as this was a pick up. Went to We Are Inn for the first time Tuesday for dinner. Drove past many newer, upscale trendy restaurants to get philipsburg but not one would have the authentic Pennsylvania feel of We Are Inn. The place has PSU decor to the 9's , and even had the LLWS live from Williamsport on the tv. ( so cool ) Started with Cherry Pepper Shooters [ peppers prosciutto and provolone~ these are a few of my favorite things ] Paired with a Yards Pale Ale Then yes I asked the server for Large Cheesesteak Mikes Way! Had to have more of that provolone, and were not in Pittsburgh so hold the Heinz or Acrisure or whatever they call it now just added marinara. It is the Chef Pat minus Ketchup, whiz/American adding the provolone - [ Cheesesteak Chef Pat's Way comes w/Cheese Whiz and American Cheese, Fried Onions, Mushrooms, Ketchup,HOT Cherry Peppers NO MODIFICATIONS ] Paired with VICTORY BREWING Golden Monkey ( Belgian triple / heavier ale ) Also had the Special, and oh boy it was special. coconut shrimp with mango dipping sauce. And The Grilled Reuben Corned Beef, Swiss Cheese, Sauerkraut and Thousand Island Dressing all set on 3/4' Marbled Rye bread and pickles on the side! This is NOT a hotel review. This only concerns the restaurant. More specifically, the Backroom Event part of the restaurant. A review of the food is at the end, but first I must vent about this special event. My wife and four friends of ours came tonight for a comedy show. We had early dinner reservations for 2 hours before the show. Once we found our reserved table, it took 25 before a waitress came to our table despite there only being 12 other guests in the place at the time. Pat and I got our drinks from the bar ourselves fifteen minutes before the waitress showed up. The comedy show started at 9:00pm. The two opening comedians weren't funny. I'm no prude but constant f-bombs and toilet jokes haven't made me laugh since I was in college. I have a red flag that never fails to come true. If the comedian uses the f-bomb at least four times in the first 90 seconds, the rest of the act will likely suck. Based on tonight, this rule still applies. Then it turns out the headliner cancelled so the We Are Inn booked a replacement. I wish I would've caught his name, he was funny. He was from Pittsburgh as well, just like Matt Little, the originally scheduled comic, told more relatable stories about family and holidays and such, using expletives sparingly. We were enjoying him, even his interactions with the attending Penn State Football players in the audience were entertaining. However, the downfall of the night was when the owner of this establishment, apparently thinking he was an up-and-coming comedian, wouldn't shut up while sitting in his seat up front. Having to listen to belligerent guests is one thing, but the owner? Shame on you. We left, the comedian said goodbye to us and I assured him that we enjoyed him but pointed to the owner and his entourage and exclaimed "we liked you but this group here sucks." Needless to say, we won't be planning to attend any more special events here. As for the food, I will share comments from some of us at our table. My wife and I shared a Reuben with boardwalk fries. They even split the sandwich and fries onto two separate plates. The Reuben was good, nothing to brag about, but good. The fries arrived cold. My wife asked for a fresh batch. They complied, they were great. My wife's friend had Fettuccini Alfredo. It was very good and she highly recommends it. My friend's wife had stuffed mushrooms. She said it was a little heavy on the "gravy" which she noted was actually marinara sauce. Otherwise, she said they didn't suck. I guess that's good. My friend got buffalo wings. They were swimming in sauce but none of the sauce was baked onto the wings themselves. I usually order wings when my wife orders a Reuben. This time I'm glad I didn't. Super sharp provolone. Tuna salad was not soaked in mayonnaise. Topped with thin shredded lettuce, green peppers, banana peppers, salt, pepper and oregano on a soft hoagie roll. Great sandwich. We stopped on our way home to Happy Valley and were quite pleased with the food, ambiance, and service. The restaurant is located in an older motel across from the park and reservoir. Decor is quite cozy with good seating, many TVs and lots of Penn State memorabilia. My wife and I split a cheesesteak and boardwalk fries. We both lived in Philadelphia, and this was on par with some of the better cheesesteak joints there. Fries were good but not quite hot. Not a homerun, but quite good...especially for Central PA. This was the first time I was here. I ordered a cheesesteak and boardwalk fries. I also ordered a Coors Light but they were out. This is why they lost a star. I thought the food was very good. If I could change anything about the food it would be that I thought the steak was a little greasy which soaked into the roll and it was falling apart. But the taste was spot on and worth the mess. My family only stopped here for Penn State Creamery Ice Cream; therefore, I cannot give a full review of the lodging and restaurant area. This Inn is a much needed hotel, restaurant, and ice cream stop for those visiting Penn State and travelling through Phillipsburg to reach State College. From the pictures posted online, the facilities are modern and clean. I would stay here if I was traveling from out of town. The dinner menu offered an array of entrees and this is one of a few locations outside of Penn State itself to get creamery ice cream. I would try this business for lodging, food and ice cream needs. read more

This review is specific to the restaurant, not the Inn...and this one was tough. I mean, I appreciate that they are trying to set the bar high with the menu items, and you do get what you expect (in a good way.) But the prices are nostalgic (of tuition) more so than the décor. You can forgive the slow service and ignore the side-by-side atv crews that make it congested and loud...you just sit here and enjoy the only view that Philipsburg has to offer, but you can't see the dam through the "Yuengling" that is hanging in front of entire window. I truly do not understand how people can say this was a nice place to stay. We were coming in for my mother's funeral and wanted a place close to the cemetery. I booked this place for two nights and we left after the first. I don't even know where to begin. When you walk in you are immediately hit with furniture. Way too many big pieces of furniture in this room. The bathroom is about the size of a closet. I had read the place had been remodeled but I don't think they got to room 107 yet. The bathroom window had been painted over and then scraped off I was trying to figure out if this was some kind of privacy thing or laziness on the person painting. The caulking was all coming off around the sink and the shower which had very low water pressure had a hole in the wall. The linens given were nothing to write home about and 1 ply toilet paper was not appreciated (I didn't know they still made 1 ply). The noise coming from the trucks did not make for a peaceful sleep however since there was a gap between the door and the floor at the entrance, we had to keep the heat at full blast all night to keep from freezing. This place needs some serious work done to it. THE RESTAURANT was nice. When we got in from traveling 8 hrs we just wanted something light to eat. We were the only ones in the place which made me nervous but the food was very good. I had the beef barley soup which was very flavorful and a toss salad. It was just your basic bag mix with cherry tomatoes and cucumber added but it was crisp and fresh. The dressing was generous. My husband had the chicken parm sandwich and said it was very good. Our waiter Rob was attentive and very pleasant. So if you are looking for a place to eat I give it 5 stars but run don't walk to find someplace else to stay the night. read more

Stopped by We Are Inn a few weeks ago for a late lunch. I had a Cheese Steak. It was impressive, five stars. We definitely wanted to return since they have a nice dinner menu. Return we did. My wife and I both decided to try the Pasta and Meatballs with salad. To our surprise the waitress brought out the salad and pasta dish at the same time. Oh well, it is what it is. After hastily eating our salads, it was time for pasta and meat balls. First couple bites, wow this is barely warm, definitely not hot. The red sauce was watery, possibly from the pasta not being sufficiently drained. At this point I was disappointed. Despite being disappointed in our meal we decided to have dessert. When we asked, "What do you have for dessert?", our waitress replied that they had some type of lemon thing, some cheesecake, cannoli. She said that she did not notice what their dessert specials were because they got slammed as soon as she arrived for work. She did not offer to get a menu for us to look at their desserts, she did not offer to go back and check what they had for dessert. We left feeling surprised and disappointed. read more

We were eager to try this place. We had heard some great things. This area can always use a great place to eat. I had the 8 oz Angus burger. My wife had the cheesesteak. She said it was the best cheesesteak she has had in a while. My burger was done as I asked for. I wanted it medium and it was juicy and a little pink in the middle. It had the crispy outside and juicy inside. I got the fries with it and they were good. Will definitely be back. read more

My family has eaten here many times, both dine in and take out. We have tried a variety of items on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Some of our favorites include cheesesteaks, mussels, and all of the soups. They always let you know how long the wait for food will be if they are really busy. But it is DEFINITELY worth the wait! The ice cream is always wonderful as well. Pat (the owner) and his family are always having events and fundraisers to support the community as well. Ordered takeout cheesesteak and burger just as they opened at noon. Was ready in about 35 minutes. I got the cheesesteak Chef Pats Way. Plenty of tender steak meat. The flavors were awesome and the roll just a bit chewy. Perfect. The burger was ok but didn't wow. Shoestring fries were ok too. Definitely need to try their cheesesteaks as they are worth it. I really wanted to love this place but it was disappointing. Upon entry there was a smell, reminiscent of old motor oil in a garage. The old motel lobby is the restaurant and is tiny. Tables are very close together so if they were all filled it would be uncomfortably crowded. Plastic covered tablecloths are too long and stick to your legs if you have shorts on. The wait staff was pleasant but the food was overpriced for what you got. 1/4 lb hamburgers were paper thin and ordered medium and medium well both came out ell-done and crispy on the edges. To be fair they were so thin medium probably wasnt possible. The blue cheese burger was tasty due to the cheese. The mushroom not so much. If you want the special fries be sure to specify that. Not knowing there were 2 kinds, ordered fries thinking we were getting the twice fried and got regular old paper dry gross frozen from the bag fries. (Tip to servers, increase your tip by asking if patrons want the almost $7 fries--even if they didn't the power of suggestion.....) Ice tea was tinted water and had particles that looked like lemon fragments (we didn't order lemon) floating in it and the ice all melted well before the drink was gone.
