I love this magazine and look forward to it every Saturday. For all of you refusing to want your subscription, take a deep look inside. As a journalist myself, it is difficult to do the full court press of balance when there's a president whose mind, thoughts and demeanor change faster than the weather, or, um, climate change. When a country is managed by a social media app, you can bet that there is a foggy grey road between "both sides" of an argument, or a wall. So deal with it, whiny kids. I too, like many of the other reviewers, subscribed to The Week for many years, on and off, since they began publishing. It WAS a fantastic magazine. It covered all the important topics in a fair & balanced manner. I valued this magazine for providing BOTH sides of the story. It flew in the face of all the other media outlets that rely on drama and opinions to slant the facts to fit a narrative. Sadly, it pains me to say that I will not be renewing my subscription when it expires since they've become no different than all the others in their left-leaning coverage. I received a copy of this magazine free with an offer to continue subscribing. At first, I was pleased with their coverage of many different topics and their fair coverage of multiple sides of each story. I especially enjoyed the international section. However, the actual writing was so abysmal and annoying that I couldn't continue to read it, much less subscribe. Here, is an Example, of the "appaling". writing in , your. magazine! As shocked as I was totally flabbergasted to learn that this is an educational tool to teach students. I am not one given to hyperbole, but this should be a crime. It approaches fraud. BEWARE! I paid for a gift subscription for my granddaughter and after a few issues, her parents decided that the magazine was too left leaning in their perspective. I emailed them to cancel the subscription and they responded and said they were processing my refund to my credit card. It never happened. Continued on the email thread every month for 4 months...where is my refund? Each time they sent a form letter response that it was processing or I should call my credit card company. I just received yet another for The Week. Apparently, I'm on their "Free List" - which, even if permanent, wouldn't be worth the price. Curious to see if they might have changed their goal of becoming the print version of Fox News, I was hardly surprised when the Letter From the Editor blamed the current economic mess we're in on... Biden. According to the numbskull who has clearly never opened an economics text, the reason we're racing through a recession on the way to a global depression isn't because the demented demagogue in the White House has declared a trade war against the entire world (except Russia, of course)... It's because of Keynesian economics. That Biden had the temerity to redirect tax dollars from the pork Republicans want to spend on bailouts and battleships (we don't need) and use those funds to fix our crumbling infrastructure and create high-paying jobs through the CHIPS act. The paper this rag is printed on would have considerably greater value if they would turn it into toilet paper; particularly since its price is about to skyrocket, along with everything else that relies on imports. read more

I've been subscribing to The Week Junior for a year or two for a child who is growing up and ready to learn more about the world around us. It's becoming more left-leaning. It's unfortunate the editors are incapable of just reporting the news effectively and without bias. Recently I received a free copy of The Week and find it to be complete trash. I was a The Week subscriber for many years. I loved the original, balanced and fair reporting that was displayed in their unique format and I became a dedicated follower of the magazine. Over the last couple of years, however, the magazine has become most decidedly left-leaning and has shown less and less of its original penchant for presenting both and opposing sides. WHAT A SHAME! I recently canceled my subscription with a heavy heart. I truly prefer this mag above all others but I can't get past the obvious agenda. I have been a The Week subscriber for years, and I have done so as I have appreciated a balanced view of political topics plus all the other interesting features of the magazine. However...I did not vote for Trump but I feel that over the past year or so, the magazine has tipped almost completely to the far left and no longer gives news representing both liberal and conservative views. The magazine has become focused on negative articles about Trump and gives no credit for some of the good things his administration is accomplishing. I never thought I would be thinking of canceling my subscription, but I am close to doing so and am looking for a new source for a balanced view of the news. read more

Great magazine content but HORRENDOUS customer service!!!! A simple change of address for a magazine mailed weekly does not get processed for nearly one entire month - that's four lost issues that I paid for and didn't receive. And the customer service representatives are awful, out sourced overseas, and a supervisor was "unavailable" to assist me. I wasted 14 minutes on hold, only to be told "I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do." read more

1: Positive: The subscription was ordered for 2 grandchildren. They enjoy the magazine and I am considering gifting it to others. 2: Negative: The billing department seems to be challenged. When I ordered the TWJ I provided my credit card info. When it was not charged, I was told my credit card info was not on file. I was rather surprised. So I made an additional payment through my banks' bill pay system. They have received over $200 with no accountability. Logging on I cannot see any payments made - what kind of company does not show payments and balance? I have tried repeatedly to get this issue corrected to no avail. 3: While I would like to give TWJ 5 stars for content, it is a 1 star due to poor customer service and billing issues. read more

This is a fantastic news magazine and I honestly couldn't get along without it. I've subscribed for years. I should note, however, that renewing your subscription--as well as starting a new one--has become increasingly difficult. There is a big push to do it online, which doesn't work for everybody. It is pretty close to being impossible to find their phone number. And when you do, you wind up speaking to an overseas operator. A price was quoted that was considerably higher than the cost I already knew it to be. She did adjust the price to the one it was supposed to be but this was only possible after several awkward language problems. I should add that they no longer send you notification that your subscription is about to expire. At least they didn't send one to me. read more

I really look forward to THE WEEK every week. Does not do in-depth reporting, which is fine with me. There are other news sources for that. Current events are presented with quotes from other news outlets, liberal as well as conservative. These are written mostly in an opinion/rebuttal format. That format does not favor one worldview over another. I do like the first page editorial which leans more left than right, but is always worth reading whether you agree or not. Arts, finance, food and a couple of pages on real estate are in the back half of the magazine. "It's Not All Bad News", "Must Be True I Read It In the Tabloids" and "Good Week For/Bad Week For" are interspersed between the more serious news. These sidebars are light-hearted and entertaining. read more

My only gripe, and it's a big one, is that the subscription costs are always unclear, and always changing, and I am getting charged, via their auto-renewal, about twice what I should be. My dissatisfying experience of the week mainly stems from their auto-renewal subscription and problems in physical mailed copies reaching my address. This is simply an issue of logistics and not the contents of the magazine. Since the start of my subscription, the issues have arrived late, sometimes for weeks on end - which defeats the purpose of having magazine updates on current and timely affairs. I live in Asia, but even accounting for the geographical location, the delays were excessive and at times issues would not even reach my residence. To the best of my knowledge, these delays and non-deliveries are not the fault of local postal service. My address has never changed and all other international deliveries were done in a timely manner. Another issue is that the subscription was auto-renewed without proper notification. I only discovered that my subscription was renewed upon sudden receipt of a February 21 issue, which was delivered to me on 11 March. It was only upon checking the online account that the renewal (since December 2024) was discovered. Prior to the 21 Feb issue, I have not received any issues under the renewed subscription. I have promptly cancelled my subscription and reached out to customer service on the matter. The liaison staff were certainly quick at responding and comprehensive in their replies. Unfortunately, they were unable to help. I recommend that the Week try to improve on their subscription notices and delivery logistics - both of which are important for consumer satisfaction and upholding its services. read more

I was a long-time subscriber for many years and stopped subscribing a few years ago...mostly for the same reasons that people have stated: 1. Sometimes you need more than a snippet. You want ALL the information. Too often things are omitted and you feel like you're not getting the whole story, because you're not. 2. Liberal bias. This is mostly true, especially if you read the Editor's letter, which is often much hand-wringing but not much else and the political cartoons. I did enjoy this from Peggy Noonan in the Wall Street Journal, though: "The past decade saw the rise of the woke progressives who dictate what words can be said and ideas held, thus poisoning and paralyzing American humor, drama, entertainment, culture, and journalism. In the coming 10 years, someone will effectively stand up to them. Their entire program is accusation: You are racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic; you are a bigot, a villain, a white male, a patriarchal misogynist, your day is over. They claim to be vulnerable victims, and moral. Actually they're not. They're mean and seek to kill, and like all bullies, are cowards." I'm sure they are people lining up to complain about this, but I appreciate someone allowing this to go to print. In order to think critically, you must have opposing points of view. But that's not why I ultimately stopped getting it. I unsubscribed because: 3. I have been suckered into re-subscribing on a special deal (yearly promotion) before with the idea of receiving a few free books. I never received these, and it appears The Week at it again in 2020 - new year, new "free book" scam. I see similar complaints about the New Yorker and their "free tote" that most people never receive. 4. No one is awake at the wheel. Let's review the article in this week's issue about the newest crop of vegan burgers (not made of vegetables, but composed of processed "non-meat" products that were made in a lab to satisfy exactly no one).... A. They're overly processed, filled with 1,000 more milligrams of sodium than a regular burger and chemicals that do not grow in the ground and some of feature coconut, soy and pea protein, the latter of which is said "to taste of urine." Pour in the salt and oil and voila, "dinner" is served. B. According to Science magazine, "avoiding meat and dairy is the number one way to reduce one's environmental impact." What are we left to deduce? Do not eat this Franken-food. Eat more vegetables. Instead of promoting that, we get the Week promoting a fake product for people who want to cash in on clueless lemmings who think vegan in any shape = healthy, good for the environment, even if it tastes like urine or cat food. Enjoy that. I'll be eating the vegetables. Which brings me to number 5: The most important reason not to subscribe. 5. This magazine has deteriorated into a promotion machine for the 1%. It used to be fun to read the "People" section. Now mostly celebrities qualify. The Week must have CAA on speed-dial. I don't think actors are that exciting. It used to be fun to read about the Golden Globes or the Oscars. Now it appears that no one watches the films. If they recognize or like the star, they'll vote for that film. The awards have become meaningless in terms of quality. It used to be fun to read "Food and Drink." Now it's a paid for promo for whatever restaurants are new on the scene and the prices are very high. The recipes do not appear to be tested...ever. This week: "Perfect schnitzel" is not deep-fried and the veal cutlets appear to be overly large, due to antibiotic use. A quart of oil? This person hasn't traveled to the Alps. It used to be fun to read "Best properties on the market" because it offered you a taste of what is possible for your money ($300,000 - $600,000) in other parts of the country. The "Steal of the week" used to average about $150,000 and sometimes dipped below $80,000. Now, it does not matter what city or area is the subject. This week in Colorado, it was the same, as it has been the past five years. The "best" homes are $5 Million, $2.5 Million or...for you poverty-stricken (50% USA) folks, the "steal" is $500,000 for a one-bedroom "open-concept" - ie, no walls - hence, less pesky square footage, in Denver with a balcony that overlooks...wait for it, more apartments. Delightful. This is horrible and should be commented on. We need affordable housing. We need affordable health care. We need to stop focusing on things that don't matter, like the expensive toys that this magazine continually promotes....for who? The 1%, I guess, but aren't they the same conservative Republicans that want to keep their money away from the teeming millions? It's a conundrum. Cover that. read more

I assume The Week has purchased a mailing list from Time, where I do actually have a paid subscription. In looking at the various articles and reading comments on YELP I have decided that the publication is too Liberal for my taste and is simply a vehicle to bash the current administration. I want no part of this magazine and 'YES' I do recognize that Time is also a Liberal publication but I feel competent to disregard the leftist opinions at Time and just read the 'real news'. Great magazine with balanced reporting and very broad coverage of what's happening in the world. I look forward to it arriving each week to give me the story behind the headlines. Just beware of their renewal letters. My original one year subscription was for $99. After six months they start sending renewal notices of anywhere from $180 to over $300. So each year at 11 months I have to go online, cancel my existing subscription and order a new subscription for the original $99. (I occasionally find magazine services selling The Week subscriptions for even much less.) So just don't sign up for auto-renewal. read more

Now I have often asked myself why a week would have to comprise seven days. Why not six? With a two or three-day weekend, ofcourse. Be that as it may, The Week does a fantastic job of summarizing the week past. Now if that sounds boring, imagine all that news and opinion classified brilliantly, and then peppered with book reviews, a TV guide, recipes, film reviews--all that and more in fifty or so pages! Content: The magazine reprints excerpts of other publications such as The Washington Post, the New York Times, various foreign newspapers, etc. By definition, news can be up to a week old. Customer Service: The website is awful, and sometimes it takes many attempts to log in. It's a very strangle place to navigate. One example: links like customer service at the bottom of the page disappear once you log in! Email your problems and you will get a form letter in response. If it's about replacing a missing issue, well...I'm 1 for 3 on that. However, today I called about both a missing issue from the past and the fact that my subscription seems to have fallen into the Well of No Return even though I paid in advance through the middle of next year. A nice woman named Kayla apologized, took my details, and cleared everything up. It was a long initial wait on hold, but with a happy ending. See Stella W's review (2017) for a not so happy ending, and almost the only other non-partisan review. I feel bad about that, Stella. As for the partisan accusations, meh: The cover art and Falk's introduction to each issue are certainly left-leaning, all the way. However, the pages inside do give voice to the conservative side. I love The Week and have read it for several years, as well as giving it as a gift. In July of this year, The Week stopped. I called subscriber services, waited 45", and was chastised for not having responded to bills. This was inaccurate as my subscription was in good stead; after 20 more minutes I was transferred to someone who told me The Week would restart in October. October passed, alas no Week. This time I emailed. Email response told me The Week would start again in January. I asked whether it could begin sooner as I had been without it already for 5 months. I was told it would start with the next issue. Alas, no Week 6 weeks later. Not one to give up easily, I emailed again, outlining my woes. No response. They comb through all the magazines and newspaper columns, and compile the best for their readers. They pay would be journalists to copy and paste. If you are looking for someone to give you something meaningful to scan quickly, save your money and time. I loved the week when it first came out many many years ago. Then it was centered and balance with news from all sides of the aisles. In the last few years it has become not the the week but the (have two) The Woke or The Weak. Even the cartoons are all so biased it is just plain disgusting. The covers even more biased to the point they have made me somewhat sad and mad, that such a past fine weekly died.
