Just finished up dinner here with the family. Great little joint if you have kids, nice and spacious with little quarter games to play. 4 stars mostly due to our fast and friendly service, but I would give 3 stars for food quality vs the price. Positives included: Good specials! Friday night specials were half off appetizers and happy hour from 4-9(no imports or wheat beer on happy hour). Good service and the games were so helpful if you have fidgety kids. They've also improved their salads, nice crisp lettuce, none of that brown wilted stuff like the last time we went there. Negatives: Food quality was sub par. Burgers were on sesame seed buns, I guess that can be considered "classic" to some, but to me I can only have a burger on a nice toasty brioche. Ranch tasted like store bought. They also are using plastic silverware and like the cheapest ones they could find at that! My fork prongs bent trying to eat the appetizers and they use styrofoam plates, such a waste and so bad for the environment :( Overall the food isnt the best, but it serves its purpose as a family burger joint. read more

Took the kids here tonight with the neighbors and their kids. I used to go to the Bol Weevil when I was a kid and though the quality had diminished over the years, I was sorry to see them close. This location reopened under the name, "Weevil Burger" presumably to avoid franchise copyright infringement issues. Anyway, the interior is pretty much the same as the old Bol Weevil. On a Sunday night after the Charger game, the place wasn't too busy when we got there. Things picked up and they were pretty busy by the time we left. The service was a bit slow but we were in no rush. Prices are fair. The soft drinks come with free refills and they promptly refill the glasses when they are empty. They offer 1/4 pound burgers, 1/2 lb burgers and 1 lb burgers with a variety of toppings. For 7.99 I got the 1/4 lb guacamole burger with jack cheese, guacamole and salsa. It wasn't up to Rocky's standards but it was good enough that I felt the place deserved more than a 3 star rating. It came with onion rings. My friend had the patty melt and he had no complaints. On Sunday nights, the kids can eat off the kids menu for free which saves you about $4.99 per kid. The place was clean and the bathrooms were clean. All in all the place was pretty decent. They have several big screen TVs, serve beer and have two pool tables making this a decent place to have dinner while watching the sporting events. Came here for lunch with my kids. On Sundays kids eat free, one for each paying adult!!! They have a nice size menu. Burgers, corn dogs, chicken nuggets, and fries. They bring out a tray with condiments too. The place looks like a sports bar with the billards table, juke box, and all those tv sets!!! The only problem is they close too early for a sports bar!!! The staff brought out our order fairly quick, and the seating area was clean too. I learned to order my burger well done, or else the cook makes it med rare. My husband and I wanted to go out for lunch before catching a movie and wanted to try something outside of the usual chains. So after a quick look through on Yelp we found Weevil Burger and decided to check it out. Good luck finding parking when you pull up. Weevil Burger is part of a strip mall and shares a parking lot with a Micheals. Also, be careful going through the parking lot. It's a little crazy with drivers who don't pay much attention. When we got into the place it was nicer then I expected from the outside. There are several TV's, booths, and tables for larger parties. A corner of the place has a pool table and some arcade games. Since it wasn't really busy we were able to seat ourselves. Our waitress stopped by our table with our menus and a tray filled with condiments. Peppers, onion, pickles, relish, mustard, ketchup, etc. They have some really great deals with happy hour every day from 4-7pm and a burger and fries combo for $4.99. My husband got a steer burger with curly fries and I got the black bean vegetarian burger with frings (fries and onion rings). Service was a little slow with, what looked like, two waitresses and one cook, so I have to take away a star for our wait on service. But when our food did finally make it to our table, I was very pleased. They were of good size for the price. My husband enjoyed his steer burger which he said tasted much leaner then a regular beef burger and his curley fries were nicely seasoned, not over the top like most places do. My black bean burger was very soft and full of flavor and my fries were crispy along with my rings. Overall I liked Weevil Burger. It's a nice little whole in the wall place to chill with some friends and watch a game on the TV. Weevil Burger is a great place to go with friends and just have a good, fun meal. Kids are welcome. There are pool tables, prize games, etc. This place is a burger & beer kind of place!!! You can watch the game with the boys or have a fun night with the family. Nothing fancy...but tasty regardless. Just an old fashion burger joint (before everyone jumped on the burger bandwagon). Their food is extremely mediocre but their service is even worse! Waitress had a major attitude. My son and I had lunch there on the kids eat free Sunday. It was obvious from the moment we sat down that the waitress was not happy about this. Before our food came out I could hear her complaining loudly to another waitress about the promotion and "ten year old boys eating for free". I waited for quite awhile for my check and then waited even longer until I had to flag someone down to pay. Had dinner at the Weevil last night with my wife and we were very impressed. The burgers were huge and delicious and the salads were quite good as well. The menu was large and varied, not just burgers. Overall very reminiscent of the original Bol Weevil restaurants, which this location was originally. Ok let's start by we go her all the time for the last 15 years never had 8 had a bad meal. Well there is always that first and this past weekend was mine. So sad to say because we love this place. But this time no I asked for a well done burger and cheddar cheese I got a microwaved burger because it was all curled up on the edges and needless to say it wasn't well done and it had American cheese on I absolutely hate American cheese. Husband and I have been in living in La Mesa for a few years and we only finally ate here and we are satisfied. I had the euro which was super delicious. The veggie patty tasted like it was ice-picked out of the back of the freezer. My stomach began gurgling halfway through. Maybe it was the secret sauce-- a mustard, relish, mayo nauseant. Tasteless mealy tomatoes, a leaf of stalky iceberg lettuce, a dried-out corn dusted roll as a bun-- low quality ingredients at every turn. My wife had the meat burger. Okay I'm really confused as to what the people giving the previous reviews are smoking. The service here is terrible. Our waitress did not smile once and barley made eye contact with us. It was dead at 1pm on a saturday. The food took about 20 minutes to come out and my boyfriends six dollar chili burger was a dry hamburger patty served open face on a bun with chili that looked like it was mostly just beans with a single slice of american cheese on top. Oh and you have to order the fries seperatley. What a rip off. My tiny six dollar salad and garlic bread was a tiny salad made mostly of blue cheese and a few veggies underneath. I ordered a chili burger and it wasn't even made they gave me the chili on the side. The meat on my burger was burnt and dry. This evening, May 12, 2018, we met our son and daughter in law for an early Mother's Day dinner. We enjoy the food at Weevil Burger, not so much the food servers. This would be no exception, except it reached the point that it was necessary to speak to one of the food servers that appeared to be the "manager". As we sat down, I observed the one staff that appeared to be handing out orders to the other food servers. After a brief interview with another food server, I was advised this persons name was "Heidi". Wether this is correct or not, I have no way to prove if it is true or untrue. As we had been promised a condiments tray by our food server, which had never arrived, my granddaughter, went to the counter and spoke to this person that obviously has no positive demeanor to other employees and certainly not to the patrons of the restaurant! My granddaughter asked for a condiments tray, I witnessed my granddaughter being told that someone would bring the tray to the table. This person, "Heidi" was not doing anything visible to assistant in the running of the restaurant and it took her several minutes of doing nothing, to walk to the refrigerator and bring out some containers of onions and place on the condiments tray. A few minutes later, the tray was delivered to our table ! At that time I mentioned to "Heidi " that it takes three requests to receive a condiments tray. Her reply was, " I don't know about that". I lost my patience with this person and let her know that she had a very poor demeanor to be working in the front end of a service industry, such as a restaurant. She gave me a look of " how dare you talk to me that way"! and questioned if it was her I was talking about. I was then told by this person that it was I that had the poor attitude! What type of restaurant hires an employee to treat their customers this way? I asked if she was the manager, she made a gesture and commented, who me, the manager? I asked who is the manager, she commented, there is not a manager tonight. I asked who is in charge tonight, she said "nobody"? What? She refused to tell me who the manager was for the evening. If there was a way of giving a mark less than 1, I would have done it. My daughter in law was upset and commented, watch, she will probably spit in our food, I had direct view of the kitchen and knew this would not happen. We have come to this restaurant many times, but, will NOT return until something is done about the attitude of this employee!!! read more

Me and my boyfriend went here for the second time friday. The first time we went we did not eat so I have no review for that experience. However on friday when we went there he ordered a philly cheesesteak sandwich, onion rings and I ordered a chili cheese dog. Being that I am pregnant I inquired on the size of the hot dog and was told it was a large hot dog spilling with chili. I then asked if pastrami could be added on top, the waitress assured me they'd be able to do it for a charge of $4. Fine. We also ordered two milkshakes. When the shakes came they were so delicious we polished them off with the desire to each have another with out food. When the food came we were both very disappointed. The hot dog was the not only the size of a regular oscar meyer hotdog, but it was shoved into a cheap bun and topped with CANNED chili and about two pieces of bacon worth of pastrami! I tasted it... Cause sometimes look are deceiving however the chili was flavorless the food cold and I sent it back without ordering a replacement. The onion rings were clearly fast food frozen quality and the philly cheesesteak was also small and not worth the order although my boyfriend did eat it. Very disappointing when I walked in to see how packed it was again and it seemed very sure that their food would be great. This was the second time my family visited this establishment. The 1st time, the service was amazing. Tonight- it stunk!!! We had to wait over 15 minutes to order our food, then over 1/2 an hour for the food to even arrive. One waitress was trying to take all of the food orders and we saw 4 other waitresses just hanging out at the counter with nothing to do. When I questioned why it took 30 minutes for the food, another waitress blamed the large birthday party a few tables over for the slow kitchen. I take my kids here after school a few times a month. The place is good, the services is fast and the sodas are free refills. While the interior could use some upgrade the staff more than makes up for the decor with great services and smiles. Parking can be rough. Seems to me lots of people drop off their cars here and go elsewhere since there is no way all these cars are at this mall with shoppers. So on rare occasions that I go here, it is a nostalgic feel. I always get the same thing, A BBQ burger. Very simple but I love it. This location holds true to the original Boll Weevil vibe. It has a western décor with arcade style games and pool tables. And they always give you the famous condiment tray which everyone sticks their filthy fingers into to eat the pickles and peppers. You might as well follow suit. This is not a place to come for fine dinning. This is a family friendly place where you can get a pretty darn good burger for pretty darn cheap. They also have awesome milkshakes. The kids can play games and the adults can sip on beer. So here is the skinny on the good deals... Everyday 4-9 is happy hour. That means you can get $1.99 pints or a 48oz pitcher for $5.99. That's a killer deal. Also, Sunday-Thursday you can get a 1/2 burger (plain) and fries for $4.99. It is a dollar more to add cheese, lettuce and tomato. But still a great deal non the less. read more

I like coming here with my family now & then just for nostalgias sake, but it's genuinely fun... especially for a family. Went here last night after my son's band performance at the school nearby & we all had a blast. Taught my 12 year old how to play pool for the first time... now he already wants to go to the pool hall by our house. Service is about what you'd expect at a joint like this. Not the greatest, but not bad either. We walked in, but weren't sure if it was wait to be seated or seat yourself. After a couple minutes of no one saying anything, we sat ourselves & then were told to seat ourselves as we walked toward a table. The waitress wasn't overfriendly, but she had a smile & pleasantly took all of our orders. She checked back in at appropriate intervals. The foods descent for the type of food it is. Good burgers & good burger selections. They have the basic burgers & then some specialty ones... avocado, etc. The fries are average, The onion ring breading looks like what you'd see at a buffet onion rings, or the school/work cafeteria, but they're actually really good... a nice light crispiness to them. The chicken wings are pretty good too. We got the mild ones w/ no sauce, but they still had a little spice to them, which was good. We have been enjoying this restaurant for over 30 years if it has been open that long.
