I haven't even checked in and for some reason am dealing with the grumpiest front desk hotel staff I have ever met, Hands down. If you are into cleanliness, please do not overlook reviews about the rooms being stained, dirty, dusty, musty, moldy, old etc. I made that mistake, because I thought how bad can it be since there were so many good reviews. If you get what you paid for then I should get some of my money back. I didn't expect this place to be 4-5 stars but at least better than Motel 6 or 8. Maybe they gave all the good rooms away and I got the last dirty room because I checked in at 6pm. The PROS: Firstly, the price was right. I booked last minute and the price was lower than most places. Secondly, location. You're a few steps from St. Charles Ave if you want to take the streetcar to Garden District. You're also a few blocks from Canal St and Bourbon St. The stretch between Canal and Poydras could get pretty quiet late at night so be alert. The bed and pillows were comfortable given the circumstances. The CONS: This hotel is unapologetic about it's uncleanliness. Either due to lack of training or lack of caring. The hotel is very outdated. Furniture is old. Everything is old. That's not the problem. The problem is, it's dirty. Stains on the floor, stains on the walls, stains on the comforter, calcium build up around the sink. Thank goodness the bathtub looked clean. The walls are thin, cracks along the walls and door, you can hear the neighbors clearly. When I mentioned the dirty floor, one of the girls at the front desk said their tiles have a marbled look so it may look like it's stained. Hahah, or maybe because it's really stained. Black stain, the length of the bathroom. Water stain on the wall behind the toilet. Probably one of the grosses room I've ever had. Always bring a pair of flip flops to wear around the room and even in the shower. read more

Stayed one night recently, staff is friendly, room was clean, spacious enough for me, free bottled water in the room is nice too. This hotel has a lot of charm, once being a bank from the early 1900s. Great location too! The only thing I found a bit odd, was that there was an extra $3 charge for the continental breakfast. It was a good deal for that price (juices, pastry, cereal, coffee, etc.) and just enough to satisfy me, but why not just include that in the room price? Staff was very rude. The gym was an out of order treadmill. We needed towels for a shower. It took over an hour, a trip to the desk. Two phone calls and then they rudely shoved to us through the door. The continental breakfast was juice or milk. Or you could add a bowl cereal for 3 dollars. We decided to stay in one night and the tv only had 3 working channels. I let the desk know. They called me back hours later. After 9 pm to see if there was still only 3 channels. So bizarre. Upon checking out I double and triple checked that we were all good and there were no additional charges to the room. They told me multiple times everything was good. Later at the airport I saw two additional charges come through my credit card. Absolutely horrible place the only good thing is the location. Will never stay here again! read more

Stayed here 6 nights (Mon-Sun) for CSM (national physical therapy conference) last week. I shared a room with 3 other friends on the seventh floor, and the whole week there cost us about $1180 total (that's $295 per person, which is honestly really not a bad price). Pros: - Really classy looking common lobby area - very New Orleans style, better than staying at a generic Hilton. - Complimentary water (your room gets refilled with 2 bottles each day, and bottles are free from the front desk at your request, and a dispenser if you're filling up your reusable bottle for the day) - Complimentary breakfast in the lobby from 6am-10am: food provided includes scones, bagels + cream cheese (toasters are available to use), granola bars, apples, oranges, cereal + milk, OJ, apple juice, etc. - Free bag storage if you're going somewhere the day you check out before noon - my classmates and I went on a swamp tour the morning we checked out and they held our bags for free in a lobby storage area (super helpful before our trip to the airport) - Great location - we were about a 15-20 min walk from the Convention Center, there's a Smoothie King across the street, 10 minute walk to Mother's Restaurant (which you have to try if you're coming from out of town), 20 minute walk to Bourbon Street (super convenient to walk home after a night of drinking there). - Really great front desk service - shout out to Nicholas at the front desk. My classmates and I ran into a situation where booking.com screwed us over - apparently our reservation got cancelled with the hotel but booking.com never notified us (and when we called them, they said that the reservation was still good - we had confirmation emails and everything). But after showing the confirmation emails to the front desk, they got a really great room for us and we weren't homeless for the night (thank God). They were really sorry about what happened even though it wasn't a discrepancy on their end. - Ask front desk for coupons to Oceana Grill - we got 10% our meal there. - All around really great service - every hotel employee was extremely nice to me and my friends, gave us toothbrushes and toilet paper etc. when we needed it. The room was a decent size, with 2 full size beds (kind of a tight squeeze for 4 people, but we got what we paid for). - TV included in the room - super handy for us to watch the Warriors game. - Outlets on every lamp in the room. Cons: - no fridge in the room, sucks if you have takeout leftovers - Pillows - my friends and I all agreed that these pillows were weird af. Your face would sink into them so you couldn't breathe and they were like bags filled with air...it was probably the most irritating thing about our stay. - The shower takes A LONG time to heat up, so be prepared to take a cold one if you're in a rush. - No on-site bar (but honestly, not a dealbreaker) Summary: - Overall, I'm pretty satisfied with what I paid for because of the prime location near the convention center and good restaurants. It was so convenient compared to some other classmates who stayed at much cheaper airbnbs but spent their money getting ubers to and from the conference. The service at the front desk to clear up our booking.com discrepancy made me really love the staff. read more

I stayed here for two nights while attending a seminar held at this hotel. I really enjoyed my stay- the hotel has a really classy theme, everything was clean, the staff was nice and very helpful, and the bistreaux was fantastic! I do a lot of solo-traveling, and I get kind of paranoid (I watch too much forensic files)... but unlike many of the fancy well-known hotels in the area, the surrounding area of this hotel felt safe and clean. The only complaint I have is that I wish the hotel had a vending machine or snack place I could get a cold drink. I came in kind of late, and the bistreaux didn't seem open, so I asked the front desk and they gave me some warm water bottles. Not the best hotel as most have mentioned in their reviews. The rooms are on the smaller side with no refrigerator, microwave, safe, or view but for the price it really did its job. We really liked the location and it wasn't loud at night. It was a quick 5 minute walk to the edge of the French quarters and was located in the warehouse district with a lot of less touristy but delicious restaurants. The staff were all very courteous. I read a review noting that they charge 15 dollars for breakfast... We did not have this. It was free every morning from 6am-10am. Not the best breakfast but offers can juices, coffee, granola bars, and pastries. Overall, if I would visit New Orleans again I would stay here. read more

I booked this room Feb 4 for a June wedding. Due to COVID, the wedding was postponed and I began calling to cancel April 28. First I spoke to Ray. May 8 spoke to Kenya. May 21 spoke to Brandon. June 5 spoke to Susan. August 12 spoke to Travis. All said the same thing. They would forward my request to their accounting department and I would receive an email or phone call. We've stayed here for three nights. I would give it a 3 and 1/2 stars due to little amenities. There's no fridge, and microwave. There is also no pool/spa, bar, or laundry service. This hotel is old, clean, and has a classic feel to it. It used to be a bank. When you walk in there's an old cool looking vault. You are greeted by friendly staff. Great location, very nice staff, and clean rooms. The decor is certainly dated but I could look past it. The bed was comfy, even though the pillows were a little odd. They even offer mini refrigerators free of charge upon request. Great stuff, until you get in the shower and the shower head is the single worst shower head EVER. It feels like a third of a normal shower head because there are only 4 small spouts where water comes out. And the pressure is AWFUL. I may have been better off just putting my head under the faucet to wash my hair because the pressure seemed to be unaffected there. I hate that something so small ruined this hotel for me, but after a long couple of days at a rehearsal and wedding, all I wanted was a hot fulfilling shower and I got the hot water, but was less than fulfilled. We paid 185 for a one night stay on a dead weekend.We didn't get the room we paid for and the front desk made up a dumb excuse for it. Breakfast was not included in that price for some reason. Instead you have to pay an extra 3$ for a small pick and choose between 2 dollar store muffins and a bagel. Quite embarrassing. Even the cheapest motels nowadays have a decent breakfast I'd imagine. I found this hidden gem in 2014, we continue to stay in this hotel each year. I love the location, a few blocks from canal, but on the parade route for the krewe's parades. We often walked to the hotel late at night, felt safe and liked that there is always staff available. All the staff are great and accommodating. Responded to our needs quickly and offered great suggestions. I love the old charm of the rooms and building. I find the rooms to spacious and comfortable, the bathrooms are a good size. After walking so much, my body typically hurts, thank goodness the beds are super comfortable. Bar is great (Mardi Gras punch..oh my)! The restaurant is ok, but who goes to New Orleans to eat in a hotel. Will do in a pinch, I like their breakfast. We have stayed at Omni, Monteleone and Le Pavillon, but feel nothing beats the charm, comfort, vibe and service of The Whitney. read more

The location is phenomenal for those of us that want to sleep at night away from drunken college kids in an upscale setting but still close to the daytime fun and nightlife. Walking distance from everything. The rooms are beautiful and evoke the old school lore of New Orleans. The only reason why I don't give it five stars is because the lighting can be improved. For some weird reason there is an excess of white cool light bulbs that contrasts unfavorably with the beautiful vintage charm of the hotel. read more

This hotel is a lovely old building that unfortunately has not been maintain well. It is in a great location - 1 block from the St. Charles streetcar and walking distance to the WWII museum and the Quarter. The young man who checked us in provided hints on local breakfast and lunch spots, etc. Our room was spacious. The bed was very comfortable but the carpet was rumpled and poorly laid and the windows and window sills were filthy. The wallpaper is peeling off the walls. Though check-in time was 3:00 p.m. we weren't given access to our room until after 4:00 p.m. because the maid had not cleaned it. No apology was given. We knew to ask for a room with a view out the window. One side of the hotel is just feet away from a multi-storied building so the window looks out at a wall. The couple we were traveling with had several problems with their room including a non-working telephone and the handle in the shower breaking off. They did not find the front desk helpful at all. read more

This hotel Was completely unorganized - our reservation was totally messed up and every time anyone tried to get a key they refused and gave us a hard time. They also randomly called one room three times at 5am for a wake up call they never asked for and then knocked at 5am to tell them to wake up- again they did not ask for a wake up call. We also could not get into our room because the battery was low- we had to wait outside our room for about 20 minutes before it got fixed. We attempted to use the pull out couch and when we asked for the sheets, they told us it would take them 10 minutes to get them. A group of 12 people were waiting for 40 minutes and the sheets never came. Our room had old socks in it as well. Cleaning staff was extremely kind, friendly, and helpful. read more

Beautiful hotel with historic features and a great staff! We came with a group and they were very accommodating with the rooms and procedures. It used to be a bank also they did things like convert the old safe into a sitting room. It has a very historic feel and is a good size for the price you pay. It's also within walking distance of The Quarter! The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the rooms do not have fridges, microwaves, or a pool. Stayed here for two nights, after the end of my East Coast Contiki- a great place to end. It's a beautiful hotel in what was once (so cool) a bank building- and therefore not surprisingly a National Historic Landmark. Loved the original old-school architecture, with it's granite, brass and crown mouldings coupled with the modern interior, making it such a classy space. Conveniently placed in the CBD and not far from the French Quarter either. Shared a standard double with my Contiki roommate and we were happy with our room. Elegant granite counters, marble bathroom floor and complimentary Wifi access- which was very handy. Beautiful traditional furniture to admire also. Got to make some use of our television while packing and unpacking and the roommate was glad of the iron and board. Lovely, plush beds to fall into at the end of a Bourbon Street night. Only minor qualm would be the beautiful elevators are quite slow- so tip: leave slightly earlier than you would normally to wait for it to come up for you to get back down to the lobby. I have stayed here a couple of times for a week now (for Business) this year and my stay was very comfortable. The staff was extremely helpful and polite and the location is absolutely perfect. The only thing is that breakfast is not complimentary with the hotel room, but with the places around, you will not have any problem to decide where to eat. The new wifi they have installed (its free) is very good and fast, which is very helpful for business people. I had a great stay here! read more

Rooms were not ready on time, and made us wait another one hour and a half after check in time, the widows were facing a wall, they were covered so we won't see it and couldn't open them. No safe box in the rooms, and after first day, every time we asked for water, the answer was no, we can't give you. Paid almost $300 a night, and had to pay $3 for Bagle for breakfast . Also, mattresses were old and uncomfortable at all. Not recommending!!! read more

We went over New Years,' so everything was ridiculously overpriced, so keep that in mind, but still the hotel is overpriced for what you get anyways. We paid a third of the price of staying at the Whitney recently to go somewhere else, and we had multiple amenities that the Whitney didn't offer (or at least didn't advertise if they had them) such as a heated pool, spa, and fire pit. We even had a couch in our room at the other hotel. The room was fine for what we needed, which was simply a place to sleep, but the hotel itself really needs an upgrade and some love. Everything was clean, but pretty worn and clearly older. Chromecast was advertised on the TV, but didn't work for us at all, so we called the front desk, and the person mumbled something and then hung up. It was never fixed, so we streamed TV on our phone, which seems a bit silly, considering how much we paid. One day, we asked for maid service, and the maid flipped the tag on the door to "Privacy Please" instead of "Maid Service" and just didn't enter the room. I guess she didn't want to clean that day, haha? I can't speak to the restaurant, because it was roped off the entire 5 days we were there. Overall, it was really overpriced for what you got, but if you need a good, clean place to sleep for a few nights in New Orleans (and don't mind that you might get to look out the window at a wall), this is a very acceptable choice. read more

The Whitney is more like a boutique hotel in my opinion. It certainly doesn't have the frills or extra amenities as your average chain hotel. The rooms are small, yet cozy. The TV comes with a google chromecast (which is a nice touch if you stream shows or movies). The building was once a bank so, that explains a lot as far as architecture. The staff is polite, but not very informed on happenings/things to do nearby. The first day I arrived, I called for a luggage rack to for my bag and it never arrived. The outlets in the room are scattered and unreliable. The headset for the phone didn't work, but the speaker phone did. And the only restaurant down stair is only opened for a few hours of the day. read more

Cheap and close to all the mardi gras locations. The hotel room was not that great but it was quiet from the noise...especially conpared to other more expensive hotels. Though getting to the hotel the access is blocked. Finally...try their gumbo...it is the best I ever had. read more

I wished i could rate this a zero but he service is horrible. Checked in at 430 and they we had to wait because the staff had not finished cleaning. The hotel is ok. Nothing fancy. Accommodations are comfortable but nothing more. The staff is mostly nice but clueless when it comes to customer service. Waited forever to get a beer at the bar while waiting to go to dinner. The bartender was more concerned with wiping down the register than asking if his customers had been helped. Hotel has a great location but will seek other options for my next stay. read more

Very beautiful historic hotel conveniently located to everything in New Orleans. Close to transportation as well. Our room was spacious and pricing was very affordable. Nicholas and Brian at front desk were always helpful with suggestions of where to go visit; places to eat; things to do. Only small complaint is shower hot water was warm. They sent engineer to fix but it didn't get any hotter. Would have given 5 stars if not for that. Would highly recommend if you want to be close by all the amenities; but not right in it.
