Really intimate surroundings with only four rooms so you could have chats in the morning. West coast warning: if the fire dept needs to be called a loud siren goes off and it is super loud, especially when asleep. We found this out in the morning. I thought for a second we were being invaded by Canada! Lol.

There is always coffee available in the dining room (courtesy of the Keurig machine), and in the afternoon/evening, there are fresh cookies! This charming B&B only has 4 rooms, so you'll never be overrun with people. You're very close to the old lighthouse and the water, as well as the 'downtown' area of restaurants, bars, ice cream, etc. The rooms are a bit small (especially the bathroom), as that was the way rooms were built in the 1800s, but our room served its purpose of giving us a close location while visiting family. **If you are not from New York (or a small-ish town?), you must know this information!!! In small towns like Sodus, the fire department is all volunteers. When someone calls for them, to alert all the volunteers that they are needed, they set off a crazy loud air siren!! I'm all for nostalgia and quaintness of years past, but come one people, everyone has a cell phone. Call those volunteers! When the first (of 3) sirens went off at 11:00pm, Jim G and I didn't know what to think! Was Canada finally sick of our bs and coming to invade? Was the nuclear power plant not too far away melting down? Was a tornado a-comin'? No one was leaving their homes or driving off in a panic, so we tried to ignore it and sleep. Then another one a bit later. Then the final one at 4:00am! Our fellow travelers found our fear hilarious at breakfast! We can laugh about it now, but seriously, catch up with the technology, lol! Thanks, Jerry and Claudine!

As far as I could see there was 1 bar, 1 gas station - you get the picture. The Cliffs is a beautiful location right on the lake. The good: -location is excellent -Bob and Nancy are wonderful and don't seem to live at the B&B which is a plus to me since that means you don't feel that they are watching your every move -Breakfast was amazing - homemade baked goods, french toast with berry sauce, choice of juice and good coffee. -Top notch service...we accidentally left our key behind and Nancy found it in our room and drove it down to the church where she knew the ceremony would be - you just won't get that anyplace else. -comfortable -easy drive into town - easy to find The bad: - about a mile from any stores along a road that is not really a walking road - may be another route but we didn't see one. -breakfast is served only at 8:30 AM (but see above - well worth it to wake up and have breakfast that is so amazing then go back to bed if you want) -check in time limited - however they are flexible if you can't make it in the 3-6 PM window - you just need to schedule with them.

Our room was filled with so much charm, it just drew you in, especially a four poster grandma's feather bed with a hand knit topper. The home was filled with thousands of nick-hacks, from their travels and antiquing. One of the most memorable pieces was a ten foot tall mirror they retrieved from on top of a mantle in a mansion. Really, how tall was that ceiling, I wondered. I took in each and every item, none of which had an iota of dust on it. After our first stay there, we had to stay again. One day, no one else was home and my curiosity got the best of me and I had to peek into the other rooms. One room was undone, another had similar decor as ours and the other had an Asian theme. Our four claw bathtub was just delightful to luxuriate in. My fantasy life came alive. The toilet had a pull-chain on top and the light above the sink was sufficient for the room. Ellen, the owner, cooked breakfast and served scones, grilled grapefruit and eggs. It was absolutely delicious. I just wanted to believe an old aunt owned this home and was putting it in her will for me. It was so cozy and lovable. My honey and I wanted to stay forever, alas it was time for reality and we were gone. I would gladly stay again.

Gail and Gary are just wonderful people who invite you in to share a piece of their home. We are a younger couple (early 30s and late 20s), so in some B&Bs I find a bit of fussiness from the proprietors that makes me feel like I am in a museum rather than a relaxing, homey sanctuary. Well that is NOT a problem here! Wicker Garden is personable. Guests have access to a common living room with fireplace and cozy couch, snacks, wine glasses, mugs, coffee, tea, etc. We sat here one evening chatting away with Gail and Gary, then ordered a pizza delivery. Gail provided us with plates and everything we needed to enjoy a night in (in our amazing accommodations, which brings me to the room....) Rose room- spacious, with a stately canopy bed, a gas fireplace, a couch and a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and plenty of hot water. It was truly our sanctuary for a wintry weekend. The bed had beautiful coverlets and sheets, down pillows. I don't sleep as well at home! And even on 0 degree days, it was plenty toasty all day and night. Now what's a B&B without a wonderful breakfast? This one was top notch. Great, fragrant coffee served in large one-of-a-kind mugs. It seems like a baked fruit, a warm bread and an egg dish makes a basic template for what to expect, and Gail can accommodate any dietary needs. Finally, the grounds/location are picturesque. I only regret I forgot to read or ask about the history of the property. There is a red barn and plenty of open surrounding fields, stars out bright at night. Even snow covered, it looks like the cover of a story book. I highly recommend a stay here. You really can't go wrong. And it was conveniently located for wine touring and proximity to the town of Auburn.

So the wife and I like to go to the Renaissance faire in Sterling New York at least once a year and…read moretypically will stay at a hotel in Oswego, however this year I decided to book a bed and breakfast for us and randomly chose this place after searching online. It was pretty close in proximity to the Ren Faire so that was a bonus. Kind of looks like your standard farmhouse when you pull up, however the inside looks incredible. The owner, I think his name was Josh, gave us a brief history of the place the next morning and I believe he said it was built in the late 1800s. Like I said it's very nice inside and each of the four rooms as a bonus that you don't typically find in farmhouses, has a window air conditioner. Quick tip however for anybody reading this and considering going there, if you're like me and you prefer your bedroom to be a little on the cooler side when you're sleeping, go up and turn on that air conditioner as soon as you arrive. The upstairs rooms can get pretty warm, of course I was there at the end of July but still it's going to take a couple minutes for that air conditioner to bring it down a few degrees. But anyway we slept pretty well, I received a text message at 8:30 the next morning alerting me that there was a tray of coffee and creamer and stuff outside the door and breakfast was served just a couple minutes past 9:00. The really interesting part about this particular place was the barn. When you pull up to the house, obviously being a farmhouse there's a barn out back. Not much to look at really, just looks like a barn.. But Josh gave us a look inside as we were leaving the next morning. I should have got some pictures but the inside is fully decked out as a venue that could be used for a wedding/reception and or any other small party or gathering. There's a bar area, a stage, some really cool lighting, and an upstairs area where a lot of tables were set up. If you're thinking about having a wedding in that area and are looking for somewhere to possibly have your reception, or in theory the actual wedding as there is a stage there... By all means give this place some consideration. Outdoors has a lot of space and a few more tables, there was a fire pit and contrary to another review that was left on here a few years ago there's a permanent structure that was built for a ladies room and a men's room. Like I said we were here just a few days ago at the end of July so the Flowers that would typically be in bloom in the springtime had passed and the ones that would be coming around in another month and a half or so obviously had not bloomed yet however judging by the number of bushes that I'm seeing, I'm sure it looks quite amazing when everything is trimmed and all the flowers are out and everything is decorated. Anyway, by all means if you're looking for somewhere different than your standard hotel room to stay and you're in this area, check this place out. Pricing wasn't that much different than a king size bed would have been in Oswego and I guarantee nobody at a hotel would have brought me coffee.
