Completed a 5 mile hike on Kippure and was time to reenergize. This highly rated restaurant was a little out of the way but close enough to give it a try. This was a sizable restaurant with an large outdoor seating area. Inside was nicely decorated and busy. I ordered the Seafood chowder that was thick, hot and with nice spice. After two mouthfuls the Corned Beef Rueben came out which made for a difficult decision to eat what first. The corned beef Rueben was ok, not as good as The Temple bar, too dry and a far 10th to my own juicy corned beef. While waiting for the check, I headed to the head to wash up and upon arrival back, my remaining beer was gone and table cleared as they thought I left. I Paid the bill and on my way. Place seems like a great place To hang outside during warmer weather although it seemed the staff was short handed.
Lovely restaurant in the quaint village of Laragh! We didn't know we needed a reservation, but they were happy to accommodate us anyway. We ordered some goat cheese appetizers which were creamy and delicious. For my entree, I had a pasta with bacon, chicken and a cream sauce - very wonderful! Dessert, we opted to share a Baileys cheesecake. It was very decadent and hit the spot. Service slowed down a little after a large group came but they offered us a complimentary shot of Irish cream!
We were staying in the Heather B&B and really didn't want to drive anywhere for dinner. The Innkeeper graciously offered to make a reservation at their restaurant. I wasn't expecting much. What a surprise! This place was jammed! A fun lively atmosphere with a large indoor dining area and a large outdoor seating area. Service was great and so was star food. My husband had the lamb and said it was the meat lamb roast he's ever had. I had the roast turkey and ham. We were served mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables with dinner. The Banofee pie is a must!
A great big restaurant / bar with tons of outdoor and indoor seating. It was packed when we arrived and there were people just pouring in as not much in the area was open. The menu is much smaller than the photos you see on google and we were informed that since they reopened they had to do this. Standard Irish pub fare with stews, meats and fish etc. Food here is ok and the kitchen is quick. Flavors are nothing special and the staff are good. Overall it's an ok place. Staff are friendly and accommodating.
Fantastic breakfast!! The Irish breakfast was very tasty! Everything was fresh. This restaurant is at the entrance to Glendalough, and is a great place to stop before checking out the site. The coffee was good Irish coffee, the eggs, sausage, white pudding (Americans - this is not "pudding" - rather a meat party), and potatoes were on point! I would definitely eat here again and recommend this place to any tourist or local! The restaurant itself is very cute with antiques as decorations. Really look at the decorations as they are all very old and unique.
During our two week trip to Ireland, the meal we had a Wicklow Heathers was one of the top ones. The atmosphere was welcoming, the food was delicious, and the service was top-notch. Definitely a great way to end the day after hiking Glendalough and exploring the loop up to Sally Gap. We enjoyed a tour of the Irish Writers Room as well as a sneak peek into the private dining area. Flavorful and enjoyable, the food was delicious!
After a long day of hiking in the Wicklow mountains, this was just what we needed. The food was great, the prices were reasonable, and the location was perfect! It was pretty much right outside of Glendalough. My chicken sandwich was good and my friends also enjoyed their meals. I will return if I'm over that way again!
I, so badly wanted this place to be great, and I am sure if we actually ate an entre, we would have had a different thought. We arrived here at an early seating, there was only about 15% of the restaurant filled. I have a large family, so there was 8 of us. We placed our orders and waited. It took approx 30 minutes to get our appetizer. By this time the restaurant started filling up, and got quite busy. Well, we waited for over 30 minutes AFTER our appetizer was done (Approx 75 min from when we arrived) for our food to arrive and nothing came. Every time the servers brought food out, we assumed it had to be ours, and then they would deliver to the tables around us instead. So, we nicely told the server, then another server, and another 15 min went by. Eventually, We had no choice but to tell the waiter to bring our check and we would have to leave. (We had plans to be somewhere and were on the verge of being late and had not even gotten our meal yet). The server snuffed with a bit of an attitude that we should have told him we were in a hurry.... which we didn't tell him, because we were NOT in a hurry when we arrived and did not know it would take 90+ minutes to get a meal. They gave us the bill and we left. Unfortunately, if not for the waiter's attitude, we would likely have tried the restaurant when we were back, or the next night, but after that, we simply could not support this establishment. We really were looking forward to trying the entres.

Traveling abroad in Ireland has been swell on my first morning. There aren't many spots to eat at 12pm around Glendalough. I'm so glad I found this cozy, warm, earth-toned restaurant. The dark wood table tops and cast iron bases just make me feel grounded. One of the hosts asked if I had a reservation, and I was almost sad because I didn't expect it. She was kind enough to seat me anyway. I don't know her name, but she was lovely, golden hair, and bright green glasses! I was served by Avinash, who had a warm demeanor. My phone was about 20% and he kindly let me charge it; hence why I do not have any photos of the meal :) at the end of the meal, when I asked for an espresso, Avi came back with my phone as well-- a nice touch of remembrance. I had the slow cooked lamb leg, with potatoes, carrots, and rosemary stuffing with a balsamic mint sauce. It was divine. It was my first meal of the day, and I savored every last bite. The atmosphere was just what I needed. 5/5 would return. And did yall know they got first editions of Bam Stoker, Oscar Wilde, and James Joyce??? Sheeesh. read more

Great stopping point for a bite to eat before or after hiking Glendalough National Park! Super friendly staff and delicious food. Coleslaw was like none other; so yummy! Generous portion of haddock fish cooked to perfection. Mint infused table water is a nice touch and will definitely be stealing that to drink at home. read more

After traveling for two weeks in Ireland my husband and I were fortunate enough to stumble upon this absolute treasure of a restaurant. The staff was warm, friendly, fun and inviting - several of them stopped at our table during our stay to ensure we were enjoying ourselves (including the manager twice). The meal we had was probably the best we've enjoyed during our entire stay and it's quite obvious there is a focus on getting the details right here. I can not recommend The Wicklow Heather highly enough!! read more
Gorgeously cosy little spot a few minutes drive from the breathtaking Glendalough. After a three hour hike up around the hills of Glendalough, you're always gonna be a lot exhilarated, but also a little cold, a little tired, a lot in need of a hot drink and some food on your belly. The Wicklow Heathers is a bustling little spot - there was a wait of about 20 minutes when we got there yesterday afternoon (a Sunday), but trust me it's so worth it. It's very much a country restaurant - lots of wood and knick knacks and warm lighting. A diverse menu but out of six of us at the table, not one of us got something that wasn't of high standard. Haddock and chips seemed to come out the winner all up though - two huge pieces on a plate with homemade tartare sauce and fresh garden peas, with a fine helping of chunky chips on the side. The staff are so friendly here, it's a real sink-into-your-seat-and-sigh type spot. I'll be back no doubt, having earned my meal up those hills once again. read more

The perfect conclusion to a magical walk through nearby Glendalough. Pretty and perfectly preserved without the least bit of touristy-ness or kitsch. The haddock and chips were excellent as was the pappardelle and the vegetable soup. Betty, the owner, took us for a wonderful tour of the Writers Room, with first editions by many of the greatest Irish writers- and there were many. Swift, Shaw, Yeats, Beckett, Synge, Heaney, Wilde and many more. Finished up with the crumble and a rich and deep Irish coffee. We are definitely coming back. Thank you to Paul at the Shelbourne for recommending this place. It is one of a kind. Only regret is not doing the Irish whisky tasting, so may have to come back and spend the night nearby. read more

Driver collected us from hotel near the restaurant and it's free. Dinner and desert we're gorgeous and atmosphere was great. I would love to go back again! read more

Amazing pub. One if the coolest I've been to in Ireland yet. The prices for the drinks weren't bad either. I'm not sure how the food is as we only got drinks here. The Guinness is great. The Irish coffee is amazing. The lemonade is very good. The staff are insanely friendly. The atmosphere and decorations are very cool. The Writer's Room is very cool too. I'd like to come back for sure. read more
We stayed at Riveradale BnB close by. They offered free transport. I thought the proprietors drove but it is arranged through Wicklow Heathers. They pick up from several local Bnb's for free. What a great idea! We were here on a rainy/snowy evening. The owner, Betty, actually picked us up. We thought she was a hostess. For the 5 minute ride she made wonderful conversation. The restaurant was warm for a chilly night with all kinds of goodies on the wall: pictures, old tools, old advertising mirrors and Irish sayings. The outside, if warmer had heaters, shawls on the chairs and looked extremely inviting. The small bar inside is a gem. There is a mix of locals and visitors. We were tired and ordered from the smaller menu. The fish and chips were good and my salad (vegetables with avocado) with Hake was excellent. The fish was broiled and at first it was just OK. When I mixed it with the vegetables it was great. Both dishes were about $16 each. Our waiter was very friendly. The internet was spotty but finally clicked on. I don't have international service so looked to check in using their WiFi. They had a great looking dessert menu. Betty took us home and again had wonderful conversation (I asked if she was the owner). I would definitely eat here again if in the area. It's lovely to go out and not feel rushed, feel like we made friends and have great food. read more

nice from in- and outside, friendly, fast and attentive staff. the menu is not too long and not too fancy, which I like. I ordered the warm beef strips sandwich, which came with salad and thick fries, it was delicious. My partner had a chowder soup and she was very satisfied with it. It is worth a stop during a trip to the Wicklow mountains. read more

Came here on a busy Easter Sunday. Inside was cozy and eclectic- I really liked all of the interesting things everywhere! All the food was classic Irish dishes and looked great. We started with a Warm Smoked Chicken Salad with Bacon (Yummy!). I went with the Bangers and Mash (Great!), the wife did the Traditional Corned Beef and Cabbage (Great). We had to try the homemade desserts, I got the Banoffee Pie (Amazing!! Big Win!!) and she got the Apple and Warm Berry Crumble (Great). Worth the stop! read more

No matter what you do, go to this restaurant if you are in the area. It has the nice traditional Irish atmosphere. It is cozy and the artwork and chairs and lighting all contribute to its charming feel. The menu has a variety of choices from traditional cottage pie to lasagna and sandwiches. The cottage pie and the lamb stew are both delicious and tasted fresh and came out soon after we ordered them. Also, the portions are large and neither of us could finish all of our food. There were absolutely no problems with this restaurant. read more
