My visit did not disappoint! The event we attended had it all. There was food, Motown music, karaoke, and dancing. I realized the last time I went that there's a kronk boxing gym in the same building. Not only that, I then found out a month later that JBCVC offers tutoring for kids, has a learning lab and a library, and there's another gym inside the building that hosts pickleball games on many days throughout the week! I'm sure they offer much more and have them listed somewhere online, but I was personally amazed at just the few opportunities I found out about.

Also, this town has The Last Castle in the state of Michigan. And nobody here gets surgery, which is why Redford is known as "The Natural." Cute little suburb of North Detroit area which has a Scottish bakery that I'm in love with that has a ton of great imported products and homemade stuff as well. It's a sleepy little ethnic part of town that has a lot of great stuff and I'm totally in love with it. I'll definitely come back here a lot in future as well. As I said, a cute City in the northwest suburbs of Detroit which is a fairly ethnically homogenous area that has a little bit of ethnic diversity as well. Some nice little places up here and not as busy as some of the hardcore Rich suburbs further to the north of Detroit - or the city of Detroit itself for that matter.

I've lived here for almost 3 decades - I would not recommend this township to anyone who could…read moreafford better elsewhere; but it's "decent" for most here. The government is full of people who are largely unresponsive to residents overall - often more concerned about whatever 'profits' and benefits they can get for themselves. Making residents/landlords all over town replace concrete sidewalks - and finally driveway approaches (- which were rarely needed at most homes) as a way to generate 'revenues' has been a controversy twice during my years here. - We have Township managers who are "in the concrete business"! Lol! More than half of the township's employees live in nicer, nearby cities - but few live here. At least half of the housing stock has been owned by out of town landlords for 15 years or more now - leaving a population of many transient - 'tenant' residents who don't take much interest in; or express concerns about local political issues or races - along with the relatively disinterested landlords who don't live here either. A relatively unique population/property ownership situation leaving the politicians able to do what they want to a larger degree than most neighboring communities - where unified 'opposition' to controversial proposals may be more common. Lots of city officials in various departments feel free to 'pick and choose' the issues and complaints they address - or don't bother with. Stories of past and present corruption by past and present administrators have been a mainstay for decades. A substantially high proportion of 'property tax' revenues goes to employee pensions - particularly 'police' and 'fire'. The township has become about '50/50' in racial makeup over the past decade; with a large influx of people from inner city Detroit moving in as either renters - or buyers when housing prices bottomed out here to as little as $10-$20K 20 years ago - a good house for the price of a good used car! (- Most properties are well over $100K again now.) A big upgrade for many who came from the more run down, crime plagued inner city. Crime has increased significantly in recent years - and gun shots at night are all too common now also. Services are few; snow plowing, for example - almost never happens; very rare. Part of this is because Redford is a township; making it dependent on Wayne County for a lot of services - which it gets sparingly few of compared to the county's bigger "priorities" of Detroit - and nicer, more affluent Townships, like Plymouth/Canton, for example. Reports of drug dealers in neighborhoods are often ignored by police and township leaders - particularly if the 'accused' does their trade discreetly - and pays their property taxes and water bills timely - a big issue regarding many households and the township's 'revenues'. 'Dealers' creating serious neighborhood disturbances will more likely be "dealt with" by the police, however. - Despite these drawbacks, most neighborhoods are relatively quiet; with a little more noise when people are out during the days and nights of summertime. Many people live here and have no serious issues or problems for many years. While we don't get much for services - most property taxes add up to between $2K -$3K per year - still significantly less than many neighboring communities. More long term residents may not look at the schools as favorably as they did years ago. Some may still find them satisfactory. Not much in the way of 'entertainment' or higher end shopping or restaurants around the township; there are a few, smaller places popular with locals folks closer to the Township Hall/downtown business area. The township is situated such that "something nicer" in the way of dining or retail can be found not too far miles away in a neighboring city. Also not too far a drive to downtown Detroit for those who like dining, entertainment, or sporting events there. Overall - "lackluster" and "more affordable" living are how most people having resided here for a while may describe Redford Twp.; while most with a bit more money look elsewhere.

Wayne City Hall is kept in good shape. A lot of work has been put into the building in order to…read moreensure it is attractive and functional. It is situated next to Goudy Park in Wayne City which is at the heart of the city. There is easy in to the parking lot when travelling north on Wayne Road. Use caution when heading south as there is a slight curve near the entrance. Plenty of sight view, however. The offices are conveniently arranged within the building which allows residents and those doing business with the city to see to their concerns quickly and efficiently. The main lobby of the City Hall has an information kiosk with a set of materials in booklet and leaflet form concerning services offered in the area and other important health and financial matters.

This tiny little office runs so much of Plymouth's events so well!…read more Not many people know this, but the Chamber of Commerce sells gift cards that can be used at certain stores, services, and restaurants throughout Plymouth, Plymouth Township, Canton, and Northville. They are the perfect gift for any occasion and as far as I know can be purchased in any amount. The Chamber has a user friendly website. They pass out special bags with gifts to shoppers around Plymouth during the holidays. They host ladies shopping nights through the year. Definitely worth checking out their website, stopping in to purchase a gift card, or view their Plymouth calendar.

Uniroyal was founded 1892 as the United States Rubber Company in Connecticut as part of the merger of nine separate companies which was one of the biggest corporate consolidations at the time. They became a major supplier for General Motors as an OEM manufacturer. In 1985, Uniroyal merged its tire operations with B.F. Goodrich, forming the Uniroyal Goodrich Tire Company and they were later acquired by Michelin in 1990, ending its run as an independent company. And I can't remember ever having a Uniroyal on my many vehicles. The Uniroyal Giant Tire was built for the 1964 New York World's Fair as a Ferris wheel styled structure. The Palmer Commons is a fantastic building with many modern touches. Although the building seems a…read morebit confusing from the outside, once you enter there are maps and monitors that display what is going on in the building on that day. I was disappointed with the leg room in one of the lecture halls, and the drinking fountains are not as intuitive to use as you would think they would be. Nevertheless, I am a fan of the modern design of the building and enjoyed my visit!
