This was one of my favourite DIY experiences ever. My wine-making process was fast, fun, and best of all, easy. The entire process starts online where you pick your wine and select your yeast pouring appointment. This involves going into the store for literally a minute to pour that yeast into your product. Next, I simply waited about a month before I was able to come in and bottle my wine. This process was my favourite part. When you come in for your bottling appointment, they have your bottles all sterilized and you proceed to the bottling station. The first step is to fill your bottle with wine. Next, you move to the corking station (fully automated) where you place it in the machine and it corks the bottle in a second. You then want to add the decorative cap on the mouth of the bottle (you can select from a variety of colours) and you seal it by blow-drying it. Afterwards, you would apply the sticker label of your choice to your bottle. And voila! You have your 30 bottles of wine ready to take home. I think what stood out most about this place is how easy the entire process was and how insightful and courteous the staff here was. I was to expect contact from the new owners to let me know the status of the order I had already paid for. I have not been able to contact Wine Butler, nor have found any information about the new orders. I bottled wine at the Toronto location for many years, and now feel I've been ripped off. read more

As of June 1st, they've closed/ locked doors at all 4 locations and cancelled bottling appointments, despite having a pay when ordered, not bottled policy. Even as recently as end of May they were selling orders and presumably, collecting cash for wine that would be ready in July. read more

I order two batches of wine and paid for them at the end of April. my bottling appointment was scheduled at the beginning of June. But then I got an email indicating it was cancelled and my owners were going to take over. I waited but am unable to this day schedule a bottling appointment. I made a Malbec and a Cab Sauvignon, both of which are entirely undrinkable. I have made wine in 'make-your-own' establishments many times, and I know what to expect. The Cab Sauvignon in particular is watered down and actually a pale colour, like water with a bit of red food colouring. It's been over 18 months since I made them, and have been opening a bottle every few months to see if they have improved. They have not, and I pour the remainder of the bottle down the drain. I emailed to arrange for a refund (the website says the wine is guaranteed, after all) and they instructed me to bring it back to the store. When I did this, I was told that I would only be refunded for the remaining bottles (about 8-9 out of each batch of 14). I asked to speak to the manager, but he is so far not returning my calls. Do yourself a favour and save your money. You may think you're getting a bargain on this discounted product, but it really is terrible. read more

I highly recommend coming this place if you want to experience making your own wine, getting many bottles without having to pay the expensive retail price per bottle! The staff is very friendly and helpful in making sure your experience is great. They help make the simple process even easier for you! To outline the process, step 1 is where you add the yeast to the wine that you ordered on the site. Make sure to book the appointment dates online first! The yeast dropping is very quick as it takes less than 5 minutes. After that, you wait a month and they will send an email for you to come back for the bottling and wine tasting. During the second visit, you will get to taste the wine to see if it's good. They also sell labels and wine bottles if you dont have your own! She rested you will use the machines to fill the bottles with your wine, cork, seal and label and you're done! It takes generally 30+ minutes to finish everything unless you have extra hands to help. A very fun hands on experience! I ordered the white Pinot Grigio and it tasted perfect! So happy with how everything came out and I can't wait to gift the bottles to friends and family :) read more

This was my very first experience of making wine. It was a fun moment. First, you need to book an appointment, pick your wine, schedule for a yeast drop for your product. Next, after 6 weeks you can go back and finish bottling, label your wine and wine tasting. They also sell labels and wine bottles. Why: - ordered wines from great catalogue with good info online. - emailed when Wine ready to make a bottling appointment. - very easy to use appointment booking and automated. Reminder system. - open convenient hours (went 7:30pm on a Saturday night with my wife - huge plus). - equipment and space are excellent and very clean. - staff friendly and helpful. - prices and selection are great. I had a fantastic experience here! To be honest I had forgotten that I had purchased wine from here, then I received several emails reminding me to come and bottle my wine! It was like finding money that you hadn't realize you had lost! The staff are great and very knowledgeable! It was my first time making wine and they led me through each step personally. It was pretty easy though! My 'yield' was approximately 14, 750mL bottles. The bottles aren't included, but you can bring your own! They provide free corks and foils as well as labels!! The real experience is just getting the wine in the bottles - nothing else. The reason they are getting 1 star is because after you give them your personal information - (phone Number) - They will call and call with automatic messages - several times a day with their promotions. Getting this type of call once every few months is almost okay - but getting calls everyday - up to 3 or more times in one day - is just too much. I haven't done this for at least 5 years so I ordered a batch of California Chianti in early December 2017; new client price of $93 plus $3.90 fee. On January 6, 2018, I paid $36.05 for 29 new green bottles, received self-adhesive labels, and caps to complete the job. The appointment was for 30 minutes although it took me 60 minutes to bottle everything after staff showed me the process. All in all, a nice experience for $4.75 a bottle. The first time we heard about Wine Butler and made wine was back in 2017 when we got a coupon on Groupon. We ended up getting $1.5 bottles of wine (which imo is insane), and brought our own empty wine bottles to fill. We have been getting wine from there many more times since then, but not on Groupon anymore. The wine is good, I prefer the dry ones. I like the white over the red. We always try to drink the wine within one year otherwise the flavour will change. They also give really nice stickers to put on the bottles and offer you washed bottles to fill for about $1 each, which looks much better than used bottles of wine that we brought with us the first time... The people working at Wine Butler are super helpful and friendly and the whole process of bottling is extremely fun! I look forward to it every year! I highly recommend The Wine Butler not only to businesses that want to use wine bottles as advertisement, but also to anyone who enjoys wine. read more

I have been to The Wine Butler twice during the process of making my batch of Chilean Malbec earlier this year. (That was at their old location on Avenue Rd though.) Their system is super easy. You basically need two appointments for the entire wine making process and you can book those online. The first appointment just serves the purpose of starting the wine by throwing in the yeast. (Because of government laws, you have to do that yourself.) This takes just 5 minutes. Around 6-8 weeks after, you will get a phone call that your wine is ready and you can schedule your second appointment. During this one you will bottle your batch. They let you choose the color of the seals. It took me around 20 min to finish all 28 bottles. (One of the staff members fills the bottles with your wine, while your cork, seal and label them.) I am not a wine connoisseurs by any means, but I think the wine was quite nice. I know I enjoyed it and I will be back for another batch. They also sell all kinds of wine drinking accessories in the store. So if you are looking for some fancy wine glasses, it might be worth it to stop by. read more

This place is wonderful! I have bottled 3 batches of wine at The Wine Butler and have thoroughly enjoyed the experience each time. I've made their Pinot Grigio, Tangerine Pinot Grigio (I requested that it be made with a lower sugar code and was appreciative that they allow you to do that), and their Chianti. I've also been given bottles of their Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon before and they were also delicious! The staff here are simply fantastic. They are more than happy to answer any questions that you may have and are extremely knowledgeable. They always make the process enjoyable and their passion for wine is infectious. Upon my last visit, I was thrilled to discover that they have upgraded their bottling machine. You can now fill 4 bottles at a time and it's a far more effective and efficient machine than the old one. I was able to bottle my batch of wine in record time (barely even had time to finish my sample glass of wine!). I also attended a wine & food pairing course at the Wine Butler last year which I found to be very informative and interesting. I really hope that they host more of these events in future as it allows their clients to sample other wines, which helps to decide what they would like to bottle next. read more

Like many, I was introduced to The Wine Butler via Groupon. Even without the deal, going the make-your-own-wine route definitely scores you savings on a volume basis (as long as you are okay to buy 25-30 bottles of wine at a go). We selected a Pinot Grigio (which I find is a great barometer of quality), and we were satisfied with the outcome. We were really scared when we came back to bottle, because we were told to sample the wine remainder that wouldn't comprise a whole last bottle, and to be honest it tasted really watered-down, but after we brought our little babies home, the wine was better (not sure, maybe they gave us really wet glasses at sampling?). Not stellar, but not swill. The place is large, and seemed to be staffed by a lot of millenials, which is good and bad. Good because if you want, you're left to your own devices for any stage you want, but bad because they all seemed to not really have any real passion for the process, nor any real depth of knowledge. There are better outfits out there, but worth a Groupon-inspired visit. read more

The Wine Butler facebook ads kept coming up in my feed on facebook, and I was thinking it would be great to have some wine on hands for the holidays... or just every night of the week. I booked an appointment, and a few weeks later my wine was ready. The location isn't one that you would typically think of and I honestly had no idea it existed. When I arrived to bottle, everything was quick and very smooth. I was in and out of there in about 30 minutes, and I really enjoyed doing it. I think the nerd in me loved the bottling process. The bottling experience is great, starting with the bottle washer. Excellent idea and much appreciated. That said, the wines are the reason for going there and while the service at introduction time is above reproach the wines easily qualify as reproachful. Or worse. I have tried the international wines, not the cheapest varieties they sell I tried a malbec the first time. The first tasting was young, but showed some promise, so I ordered a chianti, a couple of batches each of cabernet sauvignon and barolo. I expected it would take at least a year ...likely more... before they reached the stage when they could be enjoyed. All wines were kept on their sides in a cool and dry environment, undisturbed while aging. Every few months I sampled them. The problem turned out to be aging: I got older but not necessarily better, while the wine got older in the bottle, but tasted just as bad at every stage. Other wines kept in the same place aged well, and improved. No so with the wine butler stuff. Wines are intended to be enjoyable, and a pleasure to drink, but every one of the wine butler varieties failed at that. Failed miserably. They started out as poor and pretty well stayed the same, month after month....and year after year. After the first few months, they were still too young. A year later, the same. The chianti actually got worse after the first year. It was not only unpalatable, it became useless even for cooking. Sampling, backed with hope for improvement, continued with the others for two years, three years, four years and now, more than five years after bottling.......there is no possibility of enjoyment. It is still not worth drinking. My suggestion to potential customers is: Look around for other wineries. There are many to choose from and, based on my experience, even a random choice will get better results than wine butler. Stay away from them. read more

Came here with a Groupon. The first appointment is to just drop your yeast. it literally takes 10 seconds. 2 months later they contact you to come in to bottle your wine! That was a very fun experience. Staff were really helpful and patient. They showed us step by step and were available whenever we needed help. They let you taste the wine before bottling, at that time if you like it sweeter, then sweeten it right away bit by bit until its to your desired taste. Everything was included in our package (and in all packages) except for bottles. You can bring your own or they charge you $1 for new bottles that they freshly clean again in front of you. All in all this was an enjoyable experience! Fast and cheap way to make wine and staff were readily available to help with great service. I would definitely recommend the wine butler for those who would like to make their own wine. However, I don't have much to compare to though! I was they would not honour their advertised price for this particular wine. Not really the way to keep customers and they really don't care. I bottled my first batch yesterday, and what fun it was! The gentleman working there (Boris), was so helpful, and patient showing me how to do the bottling. I'm so happy with the wine, and will go back again. He let me taste it before it was bottled to make sure I liked it. I like my wine on the sweeter side, and he didn't hesitate to add more sweetness, and that didn't cost any extra. I love wine, and I am definitely a fan of Wine Butler! I was first introduced by my aunt, whom ranted about going there and getting a big batch of wine for a good price. Then I finally had my first visit to Wine Butler through Groupon. The first time you go, you are able to make an appointment to drop the yeast into your batch of wine. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the dropping of the yeast, but I was told it literally takes two seconds. The next appointment, a couple weeks later, was for bottling the wine (the fun and exciting part of it!). We walked in and told them we had an appointment to bottle our wine and they brought out our big barrel of white wine (Pinot Grigio, of course). The male employee that worked there asked us if it was our first time, and we said yes so he asked us to choose the colour of which we would like for our wine seals. Then he thoroughly explained the directions on how to place each bottle to fill the wine bottles, how to cork the bottles, and how to apply the wine seals with the heat gun. We brought our own wine bottles to fill but they do have empty wine bottles in which they sell for $1/each bottle. They also provide you with labels for your wines if you like, not the prettiest of labels but you are also able to make your own labels as well. I've bottled two batches of wine here so far and the last time I went myself. I had a whole batch to fill, cork and seal all by myself and luckily one of the staff members was generous enough to help me fill the bottles while I corked and sealed my wine bottles. I like that you are able to choose different kinds of wine and the fact that you handcraft your own wine. I definitely recommend any wine lovers to try Wine Butler. read more

Note that this company filters out all bad reviews on their web site and other review sites. There are lots of other places in the area with much better wine and customer service.
