Unfortunately, this place doesn't quite get there. It's a wine bar, which may explain why they don't take reservations. With limited seating, you're left hoping for an open table. We arrived around 5:30 PM to get a table for three and were the only ones waiting. A party of five came in after us and was seated immediately. We ended up waiting another 15 minutes while they reconfigured tables for our smaller group. Why that happened is unclear. The food was fine, but nothing memorable. The wine selection looked solid, though I ended up sticking with water (yes, at a wine bar). Overall, the experience was pretty meh. We waited without explanation, and the food didn't make up for it. Will we go back? Probably not by choice--but if friends suggest it, we wouldn't rule it out.

Things have changed for this watering hole recently, however, and it is worth writing about. The Tap Room has now incorporated food into their offerings to patrons beyond nuts, chips, and Tap Room Cheese & Crackers that are a staple at this joint. The grill is officially open and it is a must-try if you are in the area. The cook, Chad, is killing it. The burgers are phenomenal. Homemade patties with delicious seasonings done right. The options on the menu are packed with flavor and they have many to choose from. Be sure to try the TRB if you can handle the kick. My other half says it is one of the best burgers he has ever eaten, and he knows his burgers. The wings... they are served whole, as in not broken down into smaller pieces. By doing this, Chad preserves a lot of the natural juices and the end product is so tender you have to try them to understand. Order the "house" wings the first time you are there. They will blow you your mind. **UPDATE** The grill is no longer open at the Tap Room on a regular basis, but they still do food for special occasions (Bills games, Superbowl, etc.). We grabbed a table inside with no trouble at all and ordered a flight of their "Draught Cocktails". The ladies working behind the bar were incredibly fun, friendly, and enthusiastic and really brightened up our night! We enjoyed all of these drinks but we really loved one called "Transfusion", which was their vodka, Welch's Grape Juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and ginger ale. We all wanted to buy a few bottles of this, if they made it, it was absolutely delicious! The price for the flight was very reasonable too and they gave you a nice pour for each. If you want food though, you'll need to take a short walk over to The Empty Pint, though I'd recommend just grabbing some appetizers, do a bigger meal elsewhere. My advice to anyone visiting Southern Tier Brewing Company would be to first come to The Empty Bottle and enjoy cocktails and the harder spirits then round out the evening, once it gets a little later, with a Pumking (while it's on draft) at The Empty Pint, up the road a few steps.
