This is a backwoods style establishment if I've ever seen one. 200+ guns used to decorate the walls. There's even a wooden railing to tie your horse to in the parking lot. I've been here a couple times before. This would probably be more of 3 star review if it weren't for the ambiance. The restaurant was busy on a Sunday night to the point where they were still taking reservations. I'd imagine they get a ton of boaters in, especially on the weekend. Our waiter mistakenly give our table away when it was already reserved for someone who called in. The hostess was none to happy with him and wasn't very pleasant to us when we removed our stuff from the table. No big deal, we weren't seated too long after that. The black angus is great but pricey. The BLT is good for the price. I also love how you can order five wings vs the usual ten. I had the honey mustard flavor. The sauce was amazing but the wings were pretty tough to eat. Chicken was chewy and the outside was slimy. I would suggest maybe ordering them a little well done. There certainly aren't an abundance of restaurants in the area but this definitely something to see. read more

Stopped by on a quick trip to Salamanca on a Friday afternoon, stopping in around 5 pm. There were several vehicles in the parking lot, always a good sign at rural restaurants in my experience. We sat at the bar and were immediately waited upon getting our drinks quickly. They had your standard bar selection, just what you'd expect with Southern Tier beer on tap. The interior has a quirky outdoorsy atmosphere, there are antique guns everywhere on the walls. Cool animal mounts are abundant, highlights include: jackalopes, a warthog, and possibly the largest taxidermy squirrel I've ever seen. The bar top was also clean, no crumbs or sticky spots. The menu had a good variety of offerings: maybe 15 apps, steaks, burgers, sandwiches, soups and salads. The people I was with were raving about the clam chowder soup. So I had to try it, i love soups and get them with almost any meal. They had about 5 specials written on a board by the door. The French Onion Prime Rib caught my eye. It can be a risk, but I've had some of the best prime rib in places like this. Our soups came out quickly and it was pretty good clam chowder. It's a thicker chowder and very creamy with nice chunks of potato and a decent amount of clams. Served with a package of oyster crackers, I added a little black pepper and housed the bowl. The side salad from the prime rib came out almost at the same time. It's a side salad that comes with a big chunk of beef, let's be honest it's not why you're ordering the meal, but it was fresh and their Italian dressing was above average. You're not just getting Wishbone in a cup. The star of the show was the French Onion prime rib. I order mashed potatoes and gravy as my potato, they came in a small crock with the steak. I ordered it medium rare and it came with a generous amount of caramelized onions and melted cheese that was broiled to a light golden brown. The steak came out a little closer to medium than medium rare, probably a byproduct of melting the cheese, but it was delicious none the less. The beef was tender and the flavor combination was awesome. The mashed potatoes and gravy were good, nothing to get excited about but provided a nice compliment to the prime rib. The Horseshoe Inn was a great experience: quick service, good food, and an interesting atmosphere. It wasn't super busy when we were there with maybe 4 other parties in the restaurant. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in the area, maybe try the wings and French onion soup next time. read more

Nice country drive in summer or snowmobile ride. Country and sportsman theme going on. Very welcoming with great staff and good food. Growing up we snowmobiled there for wings. I've been going to the Horseshoe Inn for quite a while - generally my family goes at least once a year when we're camping in the state park in October. I had the opportunity to go this past weekend - the Sunday before Memorial Day. I remember the steak being very good and decided to try something different - the salmon. There were two choices for sauces, honey chipotle or something else. I wanted the honey chipotle but worried it might be too spicy so I actually ordered it plain. I'm not sure if it's because we arrived so close to the kitchen closing or because I ordered the salmon plain but it was not very tasty - really lacking flavor. I'm still giving Horseshoe Inn four stars because every other time I've been here the food has been great. The French Onion Soup is decent and like I said previously, I love the NY Strip cooked medium/medium rare. Another great aspect of the Horseshoe Inn is all of the extra paraphernalia on the wall - guns, hunting photos, animals, etc. Super cool for a restaurant down in the southern tier. Service is generally top notch. read more

My family and I ventured over during our stay in Allegany State Park. Our meal was delicious- soup- fish- steak sandwich and a seafood rice! All meals very delicious! We also started with Bloody Mary's, a homemade specialty! I highly recommend this place! read more

A great place to grab a beer and a burger near the lake. The staff is friendly, and it's easy to make this into a regular stop whenever you're in the area. Sandwiches and burgers take the place of honor on the menu, and are generously portioned (especially the Horseshoe Burger - bring a friend if you order that one!). The buffalo burger is tasty as well - and the buns they use are phenomenal. Fries and beer rounded out the four basic lunch food groups - we had grilled, fried, baked, and brewed all represented. Decor is, well, stuffed animal parts and firearms, both real and replica, over polished wood. Some friendly dogs out front in the parking lot complete the picture. There's an outdoor pavilion for sunny days, as well, with a nice view of the lake. read more

There are plenty of reasons to visit the Horseshoe: unique decor if you're into hunting or guns; a beautiful drive and views of the water; good stop on the snowmobile; or the food. Although this place is pretty remote the food is good and they've got Southern Tier Finn and Matt's beer on tap. I usually order something new each time I'm in, but the eggplant parmesan really surprised and beat my expectations. They have a good homemade house dressing that I always get too. No visit to the family would be complete without a visit to the Horseshoe Inn. We ordered the fish fry...delicious, and we ordered pie for dessert...also delicious. The Horseshoe has been a birthday destination tradition for us as well. We order the 22+ ounce steak (takes up the whole plate!) and on your birthday, they take your picture while you wear one of their "special" hats. (mine was a fox!) When camping season opens, they are VERY busy on Fridays and the weekends, so be advised...go early if you can. The decor is awesome...there's always something to look at. The menu has lots of variety and there are always specials. The food is consistently tasty,the portions generous, the prices are good and the service is terrific. It's worth the stop. read more

All three of us had there special Friday night of Baked Stuffed Hadock, and finished it off with chocolate peanutbutter pie. The food was outstanding and the atmosphere was super. The animals and guns mounted on the wall created a great conversation. We will be back to visit again!!! read more
