My wife and I had dinner at Cloud 9 after the Lighting of Perry Square kicking off the Holiday Season. We've been here before for the Mother's Day buffet but hadn't ordered off the menu before. I have to say that the meal was totally unremarkable. I had a hard time justifying the expense when we got the bill. I had the Shrimp and Risotto was totally nonplused by the serving size and over all taste. The Few Shrimp that were the star of the meal were so tough that they ruined the meal. I'm assuming they were over cooked as they were not just tough but bland as well.The Risotto was very bland as well, so stroke two! Bertrand served way better before at his Perry Square location. The best part of our Cloud 9 meals were the easy ramp parking. I remembered taking a Nexium when we got home so that my stomach would stop being upset. Never again! read more

Was greeted and seated immediately. We had a a nice view through the full length windows of the beautifully lit street. The area lit perfectly. Not too dark and not too bright. We stopped by Cloud Nine during a quick trip back to Erie. It was easy to grab a reservation online despite it being a prom and graduation weekend. In the past I have typically only ordered tapas or pizza from cloud nine, and they are always fantastic. This time we took the jump to try a few of their entrees, the chicken romesco and shrimp pasta! Both were so rich and delicious! To be honest, I'm still thinking about them LOL. As always the wine on tap is fantastic, I branched out from my usual Derby Red and tried the Chardonnay which paired nicely with my meal! We started with some French onion soups, mortadella and pistachio flatbread, and some arancini. They were all served in a timely manner and not overwhelming. We sat at the bar and enjoyed some weird tequila that was definitely not what we ordered, seemed to have been another flavor of a brand that we know in a bottle of another. Still wasn't terrible, definitely drinkable. It is a wine bar and we ordered tequila, so maybe that's my lesson to learn. The flavor pairing of the flatbread was awesome, especially having a roasted garlic ricotta whip and the touch of the black pepper honey on the top, I've never had anything like it. Gives me inspiration to make some things at home that I have not made before! Soups had decent flavor, seemingly like the French onion broth itself had not been seasoned enough or needed a bit more salt. Arancini was just okay. We almost ordered the escargot too because it was recommended, but when one of the waiters walked out of the kitchen we had gotten a whiff of a very "fishy" smell that quickly changed our minds. This is an update to previous reviews. Seems like Cloud 9 has been evolving over the years. It has a much more trendy ambiance. Unfortunately, it hasn't translated to a better dining experience (for us at least). Went with some friends. Were greeted in a very strange way by server. Kind of a mix of dismissive and aloof. Like a faux new york air or something. This remained the case for the whole dinner. On its own, no biggie...but add this to the food and.. The food was definitely not what it was win the early years. The brussel sprouts were pale and very hard on the inside. Maybe made in a sous vide? Plus bland. No sauce or seasoning? They were almost inedible. Risotto was very nice. Duck was nicely cooked but also bland. Nothing crisped. Maybe also sous vide but not pan finished? Sauce on duck wings was way too sweet. If you're paying NYC prices, you expect at least decent quality. Will we go back? Yes, because we know how good this place CAN be. But definitely has lost its edge. read more

We're up in Erie with friends for the weekend. 9 of us got dinner here tonight. They handled our group very well and our server was super Attentive. The prices are super reasonable too (though one friend's steak Delmonico seemed a bit uninspired on the plate for its price). The Cons: with you sandwiches or tacos, you can pay an extra $3 for fries instead of chips. Don't. You get a small portion for the $. My partner's tacos (Chipotle Pork) were very good for the price but honestly were too filled and there could have been a third one on the plate. That'd be a better deal! My diablo chicken sandwich was fine. The sriracha aioli was literally the only think spicy about the sandwich, which means "diablo" was a buzz word at best. The chicken also, while having that nice grilled flavor, was half perfectly done and half way too thin for the sandwich. One of our friends got the veggie tacos and, as i heard her comment as she was sitting across from me, the "veggies are just boiled or steamed and not the best". The pros: The sweet potato poutine that our group shared was really tasty as was the prosciutto and fig pizza. But, i also feel like any restaurant of the ilk Cloud 9 is in would have the latter. The wine list was extensive and good. Overall, as we walked back to our car, my partner and I, amidst other conversations, both of us felt the food was whelming at best. Such a sweet vibe! Went for Valentine's Day and shared their V-Day menu with my date. The prices were fair for a six course meal (an appetizer, salad, sorbet for the palate cleanser, salmon, filet minion, and dessert) and they were delicious! Their regular menu looks a bit understated (sandwiches, burgers, and fries) compared to their V-Day specials, but I'm sure they have other specials that run in addition to their regular menu. We visited Erie, PA for the first time and went to Cloud 9 for dinner where we had had an awful experience. We had a 4:30 reservation and ordered cocktails, an appetizer, soup, and salad. We were told 45 minutes into our evening that we had to order our meal quickly because we had to leave our table by 6:00. Our waitress, Emily, proceeded to tell us that we had to vacate our table four times over the next half hour while we were trying to eat our main course. The entire time we were there at least six tables were completely empty! I have NEVER been told to leave a table at a restaurant and Emily should be embarrassed by her conduct while we were there and while we were eating our meal. I would never return and would discourage others from eating at this establishment. read more

Bartender (I don't know his name--but please don't start asking your staff to give their names. I just asked him, it's Andrew), was very kind and professional. He's about my height. 5'6 ish, dark hair. I ordered "The Ritz." A cocktail with French cognac and orange liqueur. Very strong. Very good. I like it. For my food I ordered the Mahi Mahi Tacos with a side of fries. Excellent tacos. That was incredibly satisfying and the remoulade on top was amazing. Reasonably priced. I'm pretty happy with the food and service here. If you stop in Erie, you should come here for food. I'm giving five stars for good measure. I've been looking around Erie and it's hard to find a place like this. I'm sure there are other great places to eat, but this is definitely notable. Thank you guys. read more

Cloud 9 was the last dinner stop during a friends bachelorette weekend! The wine list here is extensive and has tons of local wines stocked and on tap - you can definitely find something to suit everyones taste. They also have a solid beer list and full bar with a fun array of specialty cocktails. We sat outdoors and were lucky enough to have great weather on the patio the night we were here. I'm sure Cloud 9 is a solid local haunt - it was definitely full and busy while we were here. Because of this, our service was also painfully slow. Our waiter took forever to refill waters, take orders, bring checks, deliver apps etc. We were there for probably three hours just for dinner simply because our service was so slow - to me this is really never fun and doesn't add much to the experience if half my time is spent waiting on the waiter or kitchen. The menu here is pretty broad - they have everything from pizza, burgers, tacos, salads, poutine, small plates, risotto (a special/different flavor chosen by the chef each day too!) etc. It wasn't too large of a menu, but at the same time was a bit overwhelming. Our group tried a variety of things - the Steak Frites salad, cheese pizza, fig/gorgonzola/arugula pizza, sliders, lobster poutine (SO GOOD), pork belly small plate (probably one of the best things we had that night - highly recommend!), Mac and cheese, buffalo chicken risotto, Brussel sprouts and lots of local wine. Overall the food was just OK. We sampled a lot but nothing was really mind blowing. I went with the fig/gorgonzola/arugula pizza and the "caramelized" Brussel sprouts which were totally disappointing. The sprouts were obviously boiled and then just covered in butter - they were swimming in it when they came to me in their small dish - there was not caramelization, no brownness or taste really. I would skip those if you are thinking about them! The pizza was just OK, but not great. It was what you would expect - nothing mind blowing. Favorites of the night were definitely the pork belly and lobster poutine! If you are in downtown Erie its a great little spot to stop in and try. However I am giving this three stars for our ultra slow service and my sad sad Brussel sprouts. read more

The Sunday brunch was very poor. Most of the food on the buffet was lukewarm at best. The selection on the buffet left a lot to be desired. The best thing on the buffet was the bourbon bread pudding, which was burnt around the edges because of too high a flame from the sterno. I was very disappointed by the quality of food. The most expensive restaurant I've ate at in Erie in the year I've lived here. Not only was it expensive but the quality of the food was sub par at best. It could have been the best meal I've ever had and I would still feel robbed, but it wasn't even great! Me and my boyfriend split an app, and burger with 2 glasses of wine, it was $60 and $70 with tip! Small portions of mediocre food that will force you to take out a second mortgage. First timer here for a lunch visit on a warm day. Table for 2 inside since Erie is cold 7 months out of year! Chucuterie board was first up and it was pretty diverse with 4 different meats, some pickles, nuts, and of course stone ground mustard. Next up was the Caesar salad which seemed just alright. The lettuce didn't seem fresh and crunchy but instead soggy. Not bad but just basic b. Last round was a side of their risotto of the day. Today's was buffalo chicken which tasted exactly as expected! Dinner menu seemed on point and overall our experience was pleasant. They have a good selection of wines and other drinks. In fact, our server kept pushing wines on us which I didn't mind so much. I enjoyed a bubbly cocktail with my Mac to break through the creaminess. And a to die for wine menu. Wines that I would love to keep coming back to the restaurant for but I have one pet peeve, it is servers with bad attitudes. My server for the evening seemed to just be tired of dealing with people. Another just okay experience. It's been a few years since I've been here. i really want to like the place because it's in a good location, and the menu looks good. But I think this time service really factored in. We came in on a Sunday. I looked quickly on the website and didn't see anything about a brunch. On a second look now I see the brunch is listed under the "events" tab on the website. I definitely would include that under the "food & drink" tab because I would have never thought to look under events (clearly I didn't). So the brunch buffet is $26 for a pretty wide selection of food. The thing is you don't have a lot of options other than the buffet. They only had a small lunch menu of sandwiches if you wanted to opt out of the buffet. Being gluten free it cut down a lot of options. There's a lot of bread involved. Still, I found enough to satisfy me for the meal. I honestly LOVED the veggies, a combo of cauliflower, broccoli and carrots. They sautéed it in white wine and I had like three helpings. I also had a hearty made-to-order omelet with all the fixin's. I was able to snag a creme brûlée for dessert, since it's GF, so that satisfied my sweet tooth. The service was an issue though. Everything was slow. Our dishes (some ordered off menu) came all at different times. Our drinks all came at different times. Small things we asked for was forgotten. It wasn't busy... I think the server just was not on it. It just left a bad taste in my mouth. I will say the Sauvignon Blanc he suggested was tasty... so the bad taste was only momentary. read more

I had heard about Cloud 9 opening in Erie and when I got into town I wanted to stop by and try it out. My friend and I started off the evening here during happy hour. I had a glass of Mazza Vineyard's chardonnay; crisp and cool, like I remember it. After chatting and enjoying the place, we ordered a couple munchies: poutine and walnut-crusted brie. The poutine was okay, I've had other variations on this classic Canadian grub and this one could've used a bit more gravy and curds. I really like thin, crispy fries and if that would've been the case I could have soaked up more brown gravy. The brie was decent as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the nut crust, thought it was a bit excessive. The brie was warm and gooey, perfect for slicing into and eating. It was presented with quite a few slices of white bread (more than necessary I thought). Instead of so much bread, it would have been nice to have been given some veggie and/or apple slices. Next time I'm in town maybe I'll give Cloud 9 a second go-around, but overall, it looks like a nice place and a decent addition to the downtown area. read more

It's a been a while since a new, interesting restaurant has opened in Erie, so I'm really excited and pleased to say that Cloud 9 met and exceeded all of my expectations. Opened by Bertrand Artigues, the French restaurateur who owns the Perry Square favorite Bertrand's Bistro, Cloud 9 is marketed as a wine bar, but it's so much more. Yes, it has plenty of "draft" wines as well as local draft beers, but after our first visit, it's clear that the food is also out of this world - which is no surprise as the head chef comes from 1201 Kitchen. We went to the 4-6pm happy hour, in which draft wines and beers were half off. We each had a local Erie wine and local Lavery's brew. We decided to try their New York style fresh dough pizza, which was half off as well, along with their in-house smoked pastrami sandwich and their duck wings (although I'm regretting not trying the duck egg with risotto). All were delicious. The service was attentive, informative, and friendly. The decor was outstanding and I enjoyed the view of the street and Jerry Uht Park. I will be back very soon for that duck egg with rosotto. read more

This is my favorite Sunday brunch. There was a variety of breakfast and lunch items. The service was superlative. We had a bunch of questions since it was our first time, but Milne was very helpful and checked back on us a decent amount of times. The food... oh the food. Everything was DELICIOUS. Great modern restaurant/ bar in Erie with friendly service. I was in the Erie area for a few days last month, and my Erie friends who know I am particular with food, drinks and atmosphere suggested we meet here for drinks and - if I wanted - dinner. I liked the atmosphere- clean, modern with a bit of sophistication - my first walk in impression was that this was a restaurant that could be found and do well in NYC. I was not in the mood for wine and I do realize when in a wine bar- try to stick to wine. I had something particular in mind and asked how are your mixologist skills if I describe what I like; can you get creative? My friends were humored - I think the friendly bartender was as well but he worked with me as I played mixologist and described how to make what I wanted. Perhaps my mood but while hungry the menu items didn't appeal to me that night ... Except the lobster poutine which looked really interesting. I never had poutine and while it was delicious I was hoping to have more sauce on the fries and did not realize the sauce is served at the bottom of this dish -until my Canadian relative told me the next day. The bartender was very friendly and accommodating. I will definitely visit again on my next trip back and get wine, and the lobster Poutin again. Great place to meet friends or a date. read more

We were in Erie for a bachelorette party and decided to go to Cloud 9. Our waitress, Victoria, was not very friendly, though we were all dressed as she could tell we were there for the start of a bachelorette party. She didn't try to make small talk and she was barely loud enough to hear. The wait for our food took FOREVER...and nothing on their menu is that complex. When Victoria came to refill our drinks she just shrugged her shoulders and said, 'You're food will be out shortly' and walked away. It was another half hour before it came out. This put us behind for the night and once we actually got our food, she never came back to ask how it was or if we needed refills (we did). When she finally was waved down for the checks, I told her to please wait until we could hand them back to her... We just wanted to get out of there and didn't know if we would see her again. It was awful. While this is all going on, there was another table full of women in their 60's that had a very interactive waitress and she was taking pictures for them and everything. They were laughing and having a good time with their waitress. I feel like that should have been the atmosphere the entire time but we were stuck with someone that doesn't care...but I guess it doesn't matter because we will not be returning. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in Erie! Ambiance: Cloud 9 has an upscale-casual look with regular tables, high-tops, and a long bar which features an extensive draft wine and beer selection. I love that dinner here can be classy but not feel stuffy. A big plus is the fact that you can access the restaurant directly from the adjacent (free on weekends) garage - so no need to go outside in bad weather. Food: I love the comfort food here. The menu is broad and covers a variety of cuisines from tacos, to burgers, to flatbread pizzas. I'm a big fan of grabbing some hardy comfort food like a sandwich or soup. Food is prepared well with decent portions - no complaints. Drink: Cloud 9 calls itself a wine bar and does not disappoint! There is an extensive selection of draft wine by the glass which is well appointed and runs the gamut - I'm always pleasantly surprise when I see a Bourdeaux available by the glass. There is a wine for everyone here. The other bonus is that they sell it by the taste so you can make your own tasting flight with the help of the bartender. Beyond wine, there is an impressive selection of draft and bottled beers - with PA favorites like Troegs, Yeungling, and Victory. Service: Service is friendly, attentive, and low-key. The servers are of the perfect caliber for this type of restaurant and I have never had a bad experience. Value: With dishes hovering between $10-$15 and wines available at all price ranges, I would say Cloud 9 without a doubt delivers great value for your money. Hi service is just great from the nice front desk to John our server - a great guy - so friendly. We checked in Friday night after 8:15pm and liked to be seated outside. They have a nice patio. No waiting time even if the place was quite busy. They have a nice selection of wine - all also by glas (ok they are a wine bar so they should have wine ;-)). I still like to see the Kung Fu Girl Riesling (from Charles Smith) on the wine list - I still like this wine from Washington even if the wines from Charles Smith getting more and more mainstream. We had the Brie and some Mussels with a side of fries. All food was great. They get the Mussels fresh every 3 days from P.E.I. and we were lucky that they got a fresh shipment that day (they were really good). Only negative -we had to wait quite a time for the food. But John was checking regularly - he's an amazing guy. Definitely a place to be in Erie. read more

Great place to eat right next to the baseball stadium. Great atmosphere. In all honesty I'm from Pittsburgh and went to Erie to be at the beach. We found the place and the people were instantly attentive and helpful. The menu was astoundingly diverse. Shark tacos, brick oven pizzas. I had the lamb burger and it was so tasty. The prices were pretty cheap in all honesty with beer and entrees me and my gf spend 31 bucks plus tip. Which from Pittsburgh is about right so it was very inexpensive. read more

Great lunch! Outdoor seating is always a plus. I had fish tacos with sweet potato fries. The tacos were delicious! Big pieces of fish and the perfect amount of spice. The sweet potatoes fries were good and the mystery sauce complimented them very well. It had a subtle sweet/lemony flavor. The fried jalapeño popper was a nice touch. The only recommendation would be to use a pickled slaw or some ingredient to give the tacos a bit of a tart flavor. The best fish tacos I've had have a good combination of spicy and tart flavors to compliment the mild taste of the fish. Good job! I'll be back. read more
