Since moving to Smithtown, I quickly discovered The Wine Guy. Since then it has soon become the only liquor store I frequent. They have great low prices and offer many tastings. I cannot speak on the wine selection, though it is quite vast, I am not very knowledgeable in that field. They have a pretty good selection of liquor and the prices are the lowest I have seen in a store. The floor staff are pretty knowledgeable and friendly, quickly offering advice and answering questions. The store is clean and well kept and that is a mark that management takes pride in their work. It only loses one star for lack of selection in the liquor department. They could offer more there. A few more vodkas and rums. read more

If i could give less than 1 star I would. Apparently everyone youre with needs an ID although none of us are drinking it nor is it the stores business. The girl at the counter was extremely rude and I know she was 18/19 years old. Just because you are stuck at work doesn't mean you have to be a complete a**. Never going back because of their cash register girls. read more

I am an avid Wine Guy shopper and I always tend to be satisfied with my experience every time I go. Unfortunately tonight was not a good experience for me. You go into the store and their staff looks underage. If they're 21, I'm happy for them, but the staff is very young. With that being said, I went to go purchase a bottle of liquor, a bottle of red wine, and a bottle of champagne, that my mother sent me out to get as she prepared for the holiday guests to arrive. (We were lacking in these categories.) I was then denied because while I was looking for the champagne, I had my younger brother go get the vodka for me and then was denied sale at the counter because my underage brother touched the bottle prior to purchase. I understand because of law it seemed suspicious, but I was denied sale because he *touched* the bottle. And since he did not have ID on him and was well aware he was underage, left the building, because they were not for him. Mind you the girl taking care of me was about 19/20 if that and didn't even know how to handle the situation properly. None of the 20 year old girls behind the counter did. LOL! Did they expect me to go back and pick up new bottles on my own or something? And now I have to go out of my way to buy liquor and be inconvenienced over something so stupid. Keeping it short and sweet, this wine store has a great selection and an amazing staff. I always make the longer trip just to shop with them. At first I had liked this place. My 50th birthday is coming up and I needed buy a decent amount of liquor and wine. I decided to drive out a good 40 minutes because I had liked the prices and sales that they had. My first trip went well with me buying around 12 cases or more of liquor and wine which cost $1874 but it was reasonable. My second trip however is when everything went wrong. I had picked up a few more bottles of liquor for my 50th birthday but when I went to pay, they said that I could not purchase it. The person at the register and the assistant manager were not very helpful in explaining why I could not purchase these items. when the assistant manager went to call the manager, the manager had stated that we were doing something illegal and to not sell them anything under any circumstances. The manager went as far as to tell the assistant manager to take photographs of my license plate and license and to report me to the police or some organization which I can't recall. luckily the assistant manager had some brains and decide that that wouldn't be smart. What made me mad is the fact that I was wrongfully accused of doing illegal activities in front of everybody which I'm not. I even pulled out my birthday invitation and showed the assistant manager. Also, the manager didn't even talk to us personally and left us wondering what was going on. this leaves the questions of why did they sell me the stuff in the first place? Also it was completely unprofessional for the manager to leave the assistant manager struggling to explain things to me. Finally the people at wineguys are generally nice but extremely ignorant. I believe that I should at least get an apology for being wrongfully accused of doing something illegal. Sure, go to this place if you want a bottle. if you want to get more than one, you'll probably get accused of doing illegal things and not allowed to shop there anymore without a proper reason and without the managers help. read more

This is the BEST place to buy wine and any type of liquors. Prices cannot be beat anywhere, they are the cheapest around. None of the local liquors stores come close to their inventory and prices. Plus the staff is so accommodating. Very helpful and makes good suggestions. No wonder there is always a line at the counter!! read more

While Napa cabernets are reasonably well represented and they have a decent Chianti selection, almost every other grape and region has a very limited number of. Prices are good, but not significantly better than what one can find at Stew Leanoard's. The Wine Guy does NOT offer case (mixed or otherwise) discounts, while Stew Leonard's does. Store staff give you a snotty attitude if you ask about case discounts! If you're near Smithtown it is probably worth a stop, but if you buy by the case on a regular basis, this is not the store for you. read more

The most diverse and amazing selections of wines and liquors around here. Special orders are encouraged and the monthly highlights have never disappointed. This is not your run-of-the-mill liquor store! The wine guy has an amazing selection of wines from around the world. The staff is friendly and willing to help you find what you're looking for. They even help you carry your purchase out to your car. They also have an awesome tasting bar which is pretty cool if you want to try before you buy. read more
