The nicest surprise was the mini petting zoo inside. There were ducks, pigs, sheep, goats, alpacas, donkeys, and peacocks. It was beautifully kept and you could tell all the animals were very well kept and taken care of. There are multiple locations within the park you can stop and park and walk around and explore. We made sure to check out all of the Vietnam memorials and covered most of the main trails. We did not have the right shoes on to explore the hiking trails which was such a shame because they had some beautiful views from what we could see. It is one way in and one way out which was nice to limit the traffic flow within the park!

The ice cream truck comes during the summer, it's always clean, there's a baby/toddler side and big kids side but the children all typically play alongside one another pretty well from what I've experienced. He's worth googling in my humble opinion. There is a nice walking path and lovely views of the water with ducks and crickets. I took a star off because it's right on the main road so you hear the traffic and football practice at the high school across the street. Also to access, you pull into the fire station and park along the back row, or else park at the library and walk over along the sidewalk.

Some are big, some are small. But how many parks will you find behind a fire station, across the street from a shopping mall, with a full size replica of a rocket aimed at the sky? Goddard Memorial Park honors the memory of Dr. Robert H. Goddard, considered to be father of the liquid fueled rocket. He launched over 30 rockets between 1926 and 1941. The very first one was launched right here, from an Auburn, MA farm owned by his aunt, on March 16, 1926. The park and it's eye-catching centerpiece was dedicated by the Rotary Club of Auburn in 1970. A plaque near the rocket reads: DR. ROBERT H. GODDARD PARK FIRST LIQUID PROPELLANT ROCKET LAUNCHED IN AUBURN MASS. MAR. 16, 1926 BY R. H. GODDARD THIS PARK DEDICATED TO HIS MEMORY BY THE ROTARY CLUB OF AUBURN 1970 A nearby sign reads: THIS IS A TRUE SIZE DUPLICATE OF THE WORLD'S FIRST LIQUID FUEL ROCKET ENGINE. I visited this station for it's historical significance. Although not the original station (built…read morein 1875 ) in town, this building was completed in 1911 for the Boston & Albany Railroad. At it's peak, 140 trains were making there way through this station, daily. Over the years it has served a variety of railroads and switched hands multiple times. As routes were moved away from Worcester, ridership decreased and in 1972 Amtrak boarded up the building and began to use a much smaller brick building nearby as it's station. By 1992 a group of locals began efforts to rehab the old station to it's original beauty. After several years of effort and planning, during which the building was purchased by the Commonwealth of MA, the building finally began restoration and in 2000 the building reopened to railway passengers. A small part of the station is set aside for rail passengers. Here you'll find a map of commuter rails and a MBTA ticket kiosk. There is no Amtrak customer service available here. You can purchase Amtrak tickets originating at this station through their web site. There is a small waiting area, a Worcester public library book vending machine, a police substation and a QR code that will link you to a walking tour of the Blackstone canal area. There is an elevator up to the platform level and ramps down to the bus level. Three vending machines are available for snacks and beverages. Public restrooms are older but clean enough as public restrooms go. The main part of the building is a beautiful vaulted hall that can be rented out for private events. This area is closed off during event and open to the public when not in use. There are also two dining areas off this main hall and a parking garage next door. The official website has information about renting the event space. Another example of the beautiful historic architecture you will find in this historic city.

I have been going by this train depot my entire life ...like 100's of thousands of times. I lived…read moreright up the street for a few years in my childhood and most of my life it was boarded up and in disrepair. About 20 years ago they decided to remodel it and spent millions of dollars to renovate it and bring it back to its glory. Every time we would drive by I wondered what it looked like inside and think that I needed to check it out someday. So a few days ago as we drove by my husband said "do you want to stop and check out Union Station?" YES!!!! There is a parking garage directly behind it with easy access into the station. The station is HUGE (well, not as big as the NYC!) and we walked throughout checking everything out. The station was pretty quiet on a Saturday afternoon and everything was closed (restaurants, coffee shop, police station etc), there was just a handful of people either waiting on a train or bus. The architecture was absolutely beautiful as most buildings built in this era were. I have no idea how well the ticketing and schedules work, but it is definitely a beautiful building worth checking out.

I think Worcester is one of…read morethe only cities where a hike through the center of town leads to a really rewarding pay-off in terms of the view. I have this feeling, though, that I am one of the only people who uses this trail for its intended purpose. It's incredibly hard to find the entrance. I parked on Shrewsbury St. then walked along the forest line until I found the hidden entrance. It was a really steep initial ascent. In fact, I fell on the way down and almost sliced my hand open on a broken beer bottle. As a mental health professional, I am aware of the surprisingly large percentage of city residents who camp in the woods around town, and I saw at least three of their encampments. There was a 5 minute stretch where I walked along Bell Pond, surrounded my loud teenagers, laughing kids and smoking adults. I like the solitude of hiking, but again, this is urban hiking! The trail is not really well marked. There were several times when I stood at one marker and could not see the next. I would walk a bit, then back-track until I found the trail. I finally made it to the quarry and got my view. All in all, I did 2 miles in about an hour. I probably won't do that stretch again, but I'm looking forward to parking somewhere on the other end of the trail and hiking the rest of it.

Also, there were water bowls inside, but no way to fill them unless you brought your own water.
