I live in Detroit, where insurance doesn't come cheap. They beat the premiums for auto insurance I was being offered by the national chains by 50%, and so I went to them when I insured the first home that I purchased. There was an incident where the policy was originally written for the value of the mortgage, and the underwriter attempted to up the coverage to the replacement value. Now, please understand about my home, is that never, would I ever, attempt to rebuild a 4,000 square foot Colonial with seven bedrooms. We went back and forth for a while until Ric Walton, the firm's chairman, stepped in and made good on the original policy, saving me from paying substantially more than we had initially agreed upon. I'm not sure how they did it, but this is an example of a local firm with whom you can have the utmost confidence in doing business. They stick to their word, and they truly put customers first. I had called requesting my insurance rep. I said hello & asked for who takes care of my insurance. I wasn't sure because they change often. Rather than the girl saying, I'll check and be right back - - -SHE WENT SILENT while she checked. I did not know she was checking.....After a bit of silence, I said ""HELLO, are you their""...... Well GOOD LORD, you would have thought the world ended......Her response was nasty, condescending, rude & totally uncalled for......She barked "" yes I'm here, I can only do things so fast.....OMG- - -Sooooo nasty !!!!! I get people have bad days, we all do but this was 9:00 am.....What a way for her to start her day..... How unfortunate this person is the first person you see when entering this business or hear when calling the Insurance Group.....Hope her issues get better!

We have been with Hayes Insurance for a little over ten years. We met with Steve Hayes after we…read moremoved to Michigan from Ohio and were trying to find quality home insurance at a competitive rate. Steve was able to provide that for us. At first, I did not give Hayes our auto insurance as I could get better rates by keeping our auto and home insurance at separate companies. Steve was always understanding of my position and continued to look for policies to bring the rest of my business to Hayes. A few years later the numbers made sense and we moved all our insurance policies to Hayes. Since we have been with Hayes, we did unfortunately lose my wife's wedding ring. Though we were quite sick over the loss of the ring, Steve made the replacement process quite painless. Thankfully, we had purchased a rider on our home policy to cover the ring and it was replaced without a large increase to our premium. I highlight this incident to stress to anyone reading this review that insurance quality is just as important as price.
