Great, well-priced activity for kiddos! We did the self-guided tour, which is $20 for two people. I…read morewas unsure if they had any sort of "kids under 2 are free" type policy, so I wasn't sure if my 22-month-old counted as part of our two, but the website said you could pay $10 for additional people when you're at the farm, so I did not worry about it. We weren't charged more at the farm, but still not sure what the official policy is. My husband, I, our toddler, and newborn went on a Saturday morning and had the place to ourselves. You book in advance on the website, and the self-guided tour is booked for 45 minutes. We saw a cow, alpaca, their famed mini-highland cow, chickens, dogs, ducks, a pig, baby (or small) goats, geese, an emu, and rabbits. The geese were a bit aggressive, but Renee put them away for us, which was much appreciated. The alpaca and ducks didn't want much to do with us, but the emu, goats, dogs, and pig were all very friendly. The cow was also very chill and didn't mind us petting him, but wasn't enthusiastic about our presence. I was a little freaked out by the emu, Lulu, but Renee assured us that she was curious but harmless and by the end we were all great friends. Some things to know: do not wear your best shoes. There are, understandably, animal droppings everywhere. There is a walking path from where you park to where you pet the animals, but the animal area is not stroller-friendly. Also, the goats may try to eat your stroller, which can't be good for them. I just baby-wore, and that worked great for us; we'll plan to do that from the start next time. The instructions say to park and then walk up to the big red barn. There were two red barns and nobody at either of them, so we weren't entirely sure if we needed to check-in or something. We also weren't sure if we could just start petting the animals we saw or if there was a specific place we were supposed to be. Renee came out after we'd been there about 10 minutes and chatted for a bit, but having someone greet us and tell us where to start, or at least some clear signage, would have given this the 5th star.

Engagement retreats are held at Cedarbrake, but are hosted by the Diocese. They hire caterers to provide the food. Cedarbrake has some great things happening in the future. If you go there for luxury, you're going to wrong place. If you are going for quiet and for moments of Encountering Christ, you are going to the right place. This place has been prayed over and on so much, that it is like entering a sanctuary. The rooms are spotless. The staff is wonderful, friendly, and helpful. Give it a try!

To all those planning on going on a pre-cana retreat or as they call it' "Together in God's love"…read moreretreat. This is the advice I give you. $350 is what you will likely spend if you have no idea how to work the system because they will work you over. If you're like my fiancé and I you want to work the system in your favor along with your wallet. If you think sleeping at this retreat for $350 means you will be sleeping on comfortable beds and dine on good food, throw that idea right out the door. The beds are hard, it's like you're sleeping on a box spring. The food they claim is good but a frat boy can make better food. So to avoid this and have a happy retreat, First, call the Austin Arch Diocese and tell them "I want to commute to the retreat." they'll try to sell you on the idea of sleeping in separate rooms on hard beds as a good way to get to know each other. You will be sharing a room with a total stranger, and you will have no idea what type of person he or she might be or what their sleeping habits are, be prepared for a night of hell. Now the linen is disgusting, the top sheet and the blankets are clean and but the fitted sheet have been left on from who knows how many retreats prior they are dirty and nasty, my fiancé found old toe nails in his bed which is gross, plus shows that they do not change the sheets. So repeat to them. "No I rather commute for $200." Then you now have skipped out on the horrible sleeping condition and saved yourself $150 to spend on gas and or food or a retreat with your fiancé so you can forget this retreat. As a chef I pride myself on knowing food cost along with knowing what's good. The food was cheap and preprocessed. I'm not looking for a Chef Ramsey or a Bobby Flae, I'm just looking for good food. Instead this food was egg substitute of some nature, fruit chopped, bread pre toasted and no butter, and jams and one jelly oh and horrible tasting sausage links that don't look or taste fully cooked. So bring either something from home or eat at home and come back right before the classes start. For lunch they are many places in Belton which is near the retreat location. There are several very good Mexican restaurants that serve great food but charge you an additional 50 cents for extra basket of chips. A Chinese restaurant that taste amazing, or you could go with the standby of finding Whataburger or Sonic or Taco bell. These are much better options in the long run compared to what you will likely be eating at this retreat. Or you could bring a subway sandwich for lunch so you can avoid they're lunch time meal of sandwich and salads. When they say bring snacks bring two items a drink and or some type of ate able item. Don't bring a lot because people won't eat a lot of it and they will try to take extra drinks back home. One disappointed married couple that has decided to educate the masses and save you some money. Here the number (512) 476-4888 so you can call and ask about who do I need to speak with about the retreat and how to be put on the commute. They will tell you they like to fill up the rooms first as well, again state you don't want to sleep there.
