I really like going to theater 47, I started coming here about 3 years ago. I live less than 10 minutes from the theater. I've enjoyed every show, I like the Michael Jackson one the best so far. The DJ is GREAT, because he gets you in the mood, it's very upbeat and he involves the audience with the music that he plays, I'm always up dancing. The drinks are really good and strong, it took me 2 hours to finish. I like the vendors, I try and buy something from each one to support them. I would like to see a rotation of different vendors. I remember when it was a movie theater, I would bring my 2 son there on Saturday's because it was convenient and cheap. I plan on going to every show they have at Theater 47. Thank you John Ruffin for bringing this great venue to the south suburbs. I love it. The staff is very friendly and helpful. read more

I attended several performances (musical tributes, comedy and a live band) at Theater 47 and all of them were great. I'm looking forward to the next show. They have theater seating. If you're in the last row, the seats are chairs but still a good view. Everyone enjoyed the performance. read more

Theater 47 is absolutely amazing! From the moment you arrive, you're greeted with friendly, welcoming customer service that makes you feel right at home. The bar is fantastic, and the drinks are really good and definitely worth the price. The vendors have so much to offer, come prepared to shop, eat, or both! Most importantly, the shows are a must-see. The actors and actresses are truly phenomenal, and I can't wait to see more productions from John Ruffin. This is an awesome Black-owned business that deserves all the support, tickets sell out fast for a reason! It's also a great place to rent for events, with free parking and a very intimate, comfortable setting. The owners are incredibly welcoming, and every visit is a wonderful experience. This is a great venue in the neighborhood especially if you don't want to travel to downtown Chicago and then have to worry about paying good money to park your car and then walk blocks to the venue. I witnessed the owner of the Theater 47 talk to some women that had just attended a performance, in an extreme unprofessional manner in the lobby among a crowd departing the theater or congratulating the excellent performers. It appears the women were reporting something that occurred during the performance. As we were leaving the theater, he made a loud statement toward the ladies who were now outside the theater about "just leave". From what I understood from folks that were outside, the ladies were discussing (or reporting) the unprofessional behavior of some patrons in this public venue. The complaint included loud and abusive language including disrupting others during the entire performance. My purpose of writing this review is how shocking his behavior was toward the ladies and his lack of concern that others that attended witness his behavior. While any one in a business, especially one that rely on the general public's support, management must learn to adapt and treat Everyone with respect even when you disagree with them. He had just introduced his wife on the stage and it made others outside wonder how would he like if someone treated his wife the way he talked to those black women. My friends and I were appalled and will no longer support that theater. read more

Nice local venue; I saw several nice plays here. The owner, his family, staff, starting cast and crew were friendly.

Great place to see a play! I enjoyed that the venue is not too large and overwhelming yet cozy enough and; large enough for great entertainment. I saw the Lovin' All Alone" play about the fabulous Ms. Phyllis Hyman. Need I say...it was phenomenal! Well written, directed and the music was outstanding. Do not put off your food thinking you will be able to order something and receive it before 9 pm. Unless you are sitting in the patio area you will not be served. Ironically, the owner requests we support his business by buying food and drinks there however they don't have the ability to "wait and serve" the volume of people that attend these Friday functions. So unless you want to see how to have a bad experience on an empty stomach and nothing to drink, I highly advise you to do so before you get there. I missed my Friday dinner for two weeks in a row. I didn't like the confusion upon entering. We had our tickets and still had to wait. Clarity was needed at the door. The theater is small which guarantees a great view from ANY seat. I liked seeing the owner mingling. He appeared very pleasant and not arrogant. This play was excellent. Everyone put their heart and soul into their performance. I don't care for Ike but this was a gift. My friend and her husband had gone last weekend and insisted that we would enjoy it so I attended and I'm extremely glad that I did. I have a lot of respect for the work that John the owner put into the theater. I don't like always going downtown or up north and dealing with parking. FREE parking is a huge bonus! His writing, directing and producing of this play was excellent. This was a bold writing challenge that won me over. I'm going to support him. My real disappointment is that I'm sorry I didn't know about Theater 47 sooner. Congratulations John Ruffin! read more
