Well, there is much more to Pines Tap than old union workers, my friend. This place has the BEST daily dinner specials. Me, I'm partial to the Friday night fish fry, where you can choose from fresh lake perch, cod, frog legs, shrimp, or walleye for somewhere around $7. It's a steal considering how much food you get. And this fish is GOOD! The lake perch is some of the best I've had around---and I'm saying this after having Phil Smidt's and Teibel's and some of the other infamous perch houses of the region. It almost tastes like they took fresh lake perch--only hours old---and fried it in a Long John Silver's-type batter. The result is a crispy outside and a decadent, tasty cut of fish on the inside. If you order it with fries, you'll find this side to be just as tasty as the fish. And don't expect a hole in the wall, even thought Pines Tap isn't in the greatest location of Hammond. It is very well kept up, with a handsome decor in solid wood. The regulars can tend to be a little grizzly looking, though.

Atmosphere: Some of the other reviews mentioned it was hard to find The Venue.e and my boyfriend didn't find it hard at all to find it. If you pay attention to the signs, it tells you where it's at. One thing I heavily disliked about going through the casino just to get to The Venue was the smell of pure cigarettes. I do not smoke at all and it was not an appealing smell at all. I wish they had a separate entrance that leads directly to The Venue without having to go through the casino smelling all of that. Layout: The layout of the venue was decent. I bought me and my boyfriend floor seats and we were the 2nd row from the stage. The view was nice for the price. I thought it was interesting that some people kept leaving their seats just to get closer to the stage. I kept asking myself why don't they just purchase floor seats, but the security kept telling them to go back to their seats which I appreciated. Food/Drink Items: There was an okay selection of beverages (alcoholic & non-alcoholic) as well as light snacks. I'm not a drinker, so I just got a water bottle. They only had mini bottle waters and it was $2. I wish they had a bigger bottled waters. The mini bottled water reminded me of the 8 oz Kirkland one from Costco. It probably was and ended up putting the casino's name on it. Overall Experience: Overall, me and my boyfriend had a great experience with the concert at this venue. It's a tad smaller than other ones we've been too, but it also wasn't crazy crowded or sold out which worked out for us. They have a few parking spaces in the front of the building with a larger lot in the rear. It was not too crowded and we were seated immediately. Our server Michaela was very friendly and suggested a few food items for my wife which were GF. I started with the House Old Fashion and my wife had the Bee's Knees. Both were very good and cost 10.00 each. For lunch I tried their Pecan Whiskey BBQ wings. 5 wings cost 10.00. They were good size and very tasty but I didn't taste any of the Pecan Whiskey flavor. My wife had the Barbacoa Tacos which were filled with braised beef. She could only eat 2 of them so I had the third taco. Flavorful but I would have preferred more salsa or a dipping sauce. I wanted to try their Drop Dead Bourbon separately so I had a small tasting. I loved it so much I bought a bottle to bring home. Cost was 60.00. The history of this distillery dates back to 1857 and is one of Illinois' oldest standing distillerys and was once Al Capones largest bootlegging facility during prohibition. I would love to go back and try a few more of their hand crafted cocktails and one of their signature burgers.

It was lunchtime so we ordered wings and beef barbacoa tacos and both were very flavorful. The server suggested the tacos as they can be made gluten free. Besides the cocktails my husband asked to taste their straight bourbon called Dead Drop. He enjoyed it and bought a bottle to take home. I could feel the ghosts of bootleggers of the past haunting the place. Worth the drive to experience it.

It's a good ol' boy hangout, and coming here to discuss your new kale and arugula based mud mask is not going to go over well for you. This is a place to drink, play the jukebox, have a smoke without the judgement of the hipster with blackframed glasses, writing his thesis on a typewriter in the corner. Plenty of TVs are lined along the wall playing whatever is the thing, and the bartender has never had an issue changing the channel on one to satisfy a customer. They carry on top a few crafts on draft, and some of the regular piss water like any other bar. They do have a lot more craft in the fridge in bottles. The glasses are cold and frosty and run about 4 bucks a beer. There are also daily specials on the wall, and dollar tacos and 50 cent boneless wings are my fave. They do not try to be a 5 star Zagat Rated whatever kind of place, and that is why they get 5 stars. Thank my lucky stars I brought my own black table clothes. The place was HOT. They claimed to have had the air on but it was an 85 degree day and cooler outside then in there. The shared kitchen was ok. But the freezer is full of old food. The manger was abit rude and unprofessional as someone parked by the door and we advised her we would have them move. She advised they could park in the parking lot she would open it as a courtesy but it's normally $75 an hour to park there . She also made mention that the shared kitchen was $25 a hour. After she was done with her ranting. I mention to her that those items were included in our contract. She paused and recanted her statement. I totally understand what they are doing in this neighborhood and I commend them for it. However, the hourly price they are charging does not match up with the space. In addition to an intimate 410-seat thrust stage theater and an art gallery, this facility has a pair of elegant dining rooms for banquets and special events, and also a gift shop featuring handcrafted items. We were participants in a 'group package' which included a hot multi-course lunch followed by a matinee performance of "Ghost." The meal, consisting of lemon rice soup, a choice of Chicken Tetrazzini or Beef Stroganoff, and chocolate cake, exceeded our expectations. Though basic, this 'comfort food' was yummy, attractively plated, and served at just the right temperature. They were a bit parsimonious with the rolls and a basket of crackers (the latter was whisked away as soon as we finished the soup), but otherwise the portions were ample and the servers were genial and attentive. Afterwards, we had time to explore the gift shop and art gallery. The restrooms are immaculate. The theater has comfortable seating with generous legroom and excellent sightlines. Although the scenery and props for "Ghost" were minimal, the performance was so absorbing that we soon became too engrossed to notice the bare-bones setting. We also enjoyed chatting with General Manager Richard, who likes to mingle with the guests. If only the staffs at other fine arts venues were as personable and informative. All in all, it was a perfect day.
