As a former employee, the store looks nothing like it used to. After Covid, none of employees were called back to work. Two of my coworkers called to go back to work. The Funroom is not fun, Ben Nye makeup is sparse, magic tricks are few and far between, and the moral because of the owner is awful. Everything that we went to get they "didn't have" and the one thing I was interested in buying "wasn't for sale" but was on the sales floor. Lady was not friendly at all, we seemed like we were a nuisance to her "time" because I asked her questions. Would not recommend. read more

I love this place, I have come here so many times looking for Halloween costumes, stuff for music videos, gag gifts, you name it they got it! They have everything from ballet shoes, to Yoda Masks, to wait for it.... yes you can rent a guillotine!!! I was going to do that for a music video, but it looks to dangerous and even though I lost my mind, years ago, I'm quite attached to my head! This is a must stop in Valley Junction to look around or find something funny to wear for that halloween party! They have stuff to rent or buy and you wont be disappointed in the selection! I really love this place, their first concern is making sure that everyone is healthy above all else. With the pandemic they're taking precautions to ensuring people are safe, wearing masks, wiping down things after each use, things like that. They made sure my health came first and there was no worry about if I was able to pay for it that day or not. They told me finances is never a reason for them to turn someone away because everyone deserves to be healthy and out of pain. I was in extreme pain until I started seeing him 3 times a week and now we've knocked it down to 2 times a week. Overall great place, highly recommend. read more

Came in here many years ago to help someone find some costumes for a school project. This place has a ton of stuff , you will most likely find what you are looking for. The items are scattered around and on the most part: organized. The staff member was helpful in assisting us find what we were looking for. Would have been better if there was more organizing and less clutter because you feel pretty cramped shopping around here. read more

Very inconsistent customer service. Some workers here seem to care about their jobs, others seem they could care less. Rented a costume from this place recently, and the ownership blamed Google for their incorrect hours online that caused my rental return to be returned late. Google stated that the location was open until 6pm, when it was only open until 5pm. When I brought this up to the owner/manager, I was told it was my fault and the fault of Google, not hers--even though this is her business. I was also told she had placed a call and left a voicemail for those whose returns were due on Sunday, but that call/VM was never made/received. I always support local business whenever possible, but this has caused me to avoid this place in the future. Extremely disappointed. Spend your overpriced costume money elsewhere. read more

I frequent the theatrical shop for their amazing Ben Nye makeup selection. Its a little more expensive to buy here than it would be other places or online, but the convienece is why I return. I love that they offer a discount on Saturdays. My only concern with the place is that they dont always carry larger sizes in dance supplies and it can get a little disorganized during Halloween season. Des Moines tradition. I have been coming here since a child and still hold this place so close to my heart. It is locally owned so they do use paper/pen and its a little technologically out of date...which I think adds to the charm. Big chains provide the most *efficient* experience, yes, but they will never have the style of a place like this! read more

Worst experience of customer service ever provided. We got into the store about 6:30 we waited for her to help to other customers. Want she was finished with the second customer she looked at us rolled her eyes and said somebody's gonna be disappointed because the rental shop closes in six minutes so I asked her if she was not going to help us and she just shrugged her shoulders. I asked if she was serious and she said what do you want we close at 6:45. I said I thought you closed at seven like the sign said and she said not the rental office! She was just very rude and unwilling to help so we advise her that will take our business elsewhere and walked out! I've never experienced something like this before, completely shocked! read more

I love this store! The inventory is incredible and the clearance store is a full building down the street, not just a shelf or two. It is really fun to look around the store and find products that you really never knew existed, or that you wanted Fun all around! read more

I will NEVER return to this place. We were there on a Sunday in August, just visiting the area from out of town. My 8-year-old daughter wanted to buy a costume for Halloween. She and I were talking and I was quietly telling her we could find the same costume at home for less money. Being 8 (and, I will add, a special-needs child), she wanted to buy it at that moment and not wait. The male owner was waiting on other customers but watching my daughter and me. He could not actually hear our conversation and did not know my daughter was hoping to persuade me make a purchase, but he decided to make rude comments about us to the other people. This man assumed my daughter was not putting the costume back because she didn't want to walk back into the other room. He LOUDLY started making snide comments about my CHILD to the other people, saying kids never want to put things away, etc. Really loud, really rude. We put the costume back and left. Shame on you, owner, for attempting to shame a child and embarrass an adult. We will NOT be back. Be warned before you bring your children here. read more
