We got to choose our own scents, mix and pour candles, and just enjoy each other's company in such a beautiful space. Everyone left with their own custom candle and the best memories. Restored Apothecary is located in Poppi Seed Market, a shop filled with many small businesses and local vendors. It is also part of the Woodbury Town Center.

I loved that I got to actually experiment with different fragrances and customize my own scent. I chose Blue Sage Blossom, Bombshelluth, and the Taurus fragrance, and somehow my final creation ended up smelling like Dior Sauvage -- definitely not what I expected, but I was obsessed with it! The whole experience was such a fun and creative activity, especially if you love fragrance or want to try something different. I'd 100% recommend booking a class if you're looking for a unique experience in Orange County!

When we arrived, they told me there is also a mandatory 18% gratuity. First, that is legally supposed to be disclosed clearly and in advance which it was not. The kids picked out their paint colors and then we found out that your location was out of (six) different colors that they wanted and they had to settle for less appealing options. The attendants were slow to replenish the paint and acted like it was an inconvenience, even though they were getting a "mandatory gratuity". They could have been nicer and more friendly. One of the colors they "replenished" was not the same color as we got at the beginning even though we asked for the same color # and the attendant even checked the # to make sure, and one of the kids ending up having two different colors of paint in one section of her ceramic piece that she was really disappointed about. When we asked the attendant how we could fix it, she said she didn't know and literally walked away mid-conversation to help someone else. She clearly did not care about our party once we sat down. My bill was almost $300 and the mandatory gratuity was $49.32 which was absolutely not worth the service we got. I doubt we would come back to your store since we never had this issue at Color Me Mine.

It has a great location in Laguna, although I didn't realize they had validated parking until I had passed the parking structure and ended up paying $6.00 at the garage behind the building. So when you go, make sure to park at "The Collection at Laguna" and get validated. The store is pleasant & filled with lots of gift goodies. Items were over priced but no more than the normal Laguna establishment. You pay for a little piece of the beach with each purchase. =) The candle making experience: Creativity: Lots of fun choosing your candle shape, fragrance, color and embellishments. The process is simple and calming. My candle took about two hours to create from start (picking everything) to finish (having the owner meld the wax together.) The dry time is two hours unless you want to pay extra for faster drying so you'll need to come back. The wait won't bother you since you can spend the two hours relaxing at the beach in anticipation of your wax creation. The only downside is I couldn't finish my candle by pouring the filler wax and placing the top embellishments. I'm sure this was a safety rule but in my opinion; have me sign a waver (so I don't sue you) and allow me my God given right to get burned if I so choose to. lol Price: The cost of the candles is expensive. My candle "Moon Shine" and 17 small embellishments cost my close to $60.00. The candle promises to burn for 50hrs. However I think I'm going to need a few days before I can harness my zen teachings of letting go, giving back to the universe and burning it. When compared to how much a candle of it's size costs in another store, $60.00 seems outrageous. BUT consider the creative time you experienced and the joy of creating something from scratch and it makes it well worth the price. Think of Pure Light as a fine dining experience. It may not be for every day but it's a blast when your ready to splurge a little. OVERALL: I highly recommend Pure Light. The environment is great, the creative process is fun and it's a great alternative to the normal dinner and a movie. Happy Candle Making!!

They offered suggestions even though there were 25+ of us in various stages of attentiveness. Everyone really enjoyed themselves. I had such a nice time that I booked another experience to celebrate my daughter's birthday. This time was different and felt ... perfunctory. We arrived right before our scheduled time, I was starting to tell the person who received us (I was told she was the owner even) that we had arrived quite a bit early (like we got there before the store even opened so we walked around for a bit before arriving 1 min before our reservation) before she abruptly said no it was already time and everyone else had gotten started. Just reminded me of the plethora of email reminders I'd received from them reminding us to arrive on time, allow time for parking, etc. She didn't even greet us or say hello or welcome. Never introduced herself, never asked our names. Just a "do you have a reservation?" And told us to put our stuff down (didn't tell us where) and put on an apron. We ended up putting our things down on someone else's seats because others were standing in front of ours while four others were choosing their scents for their candles. Told us we'd have to wait since there was no room for us to choose our scents so we just stood there. No one even said, hey why don't you wander around the store for a bit until space clears up. And why rudely tell us they'd already started when we just had to stand there and wait anyway? I really felt like we were in the way rather than paying customers, so I told my girls they could look around the shop for a minute rather than awkwardly stand there in front of someone else's seats. The person who helped us with our candle making was nice but kind of just gave us instructions of what to do. One of the girls mentioned how it was kind of like chemistry class so we all talked about science for a bit. I reminded the staff that the day was for my daughter's birthday (I had specified on the reservation) so she gave a quick little happy birthday before moving on. I didn't feel she was particularly helpful though. I asked how we can decide how much of one scent versus another and she just said you kind of just smell it. My daughter asked if she could make the color of her candle a little lighter and the person was just like, well, we can't guarantee what it will look like, but she was very helpful in breaking up the colored wax for her. When we returned to pick up our candles, that was it, they were just sitting there on the counter, packaged up and crammed into one little bag. I wanted to ask for another bag since each candle was going to a different household, but the staff gave off vibes of "go away". I distinctly remember the first time, each candle was packaged in their own little bag with the lid off the candle and they told us it was really important to let the candle "cure" and completely dry for three days before putting the lid on or lighting it. This time the candles were sealed up, no thank you for coming. No I hope you enjoy your candles. I can only assume this day was an outlier and maybe the staff were having a not great day. The experience is not cheap at $60 for which you create a 7 oz candle. I understand the cost isn't just for a candle, but for the experience of creating. The cost of the materials was probably minimal. But for that expense, I would have expected the experience to be a little less icy and a little more friendly (like during my first visit). Thankfully, my girls enjoyed their candles and had fun and were super thankful.
