I've always liked Theisen's and the location on 16th Ave. SW is the store I visit most. Great selection of pet supplies, Iowa gear, holiday/seasonal items, toys, automotive, food for your pantry and more. On my recent visit I scored some great vegetable plants for less than $2/each. A fabulous Eastern Iowa store that has a wide range of interesting items that you may not see closer to a larger city. Loved the store! Great selection of boots and shoes for the whole family. Leather boots, suade, country, work, casual and even patriotic. Impressive! Some of the prices seemed to be higher than at other stores of similar theme but the sheer variety and quality were well justified in the additional cost. Great store. Very helpful staff. I had the best experience today! Stopped in for hiking boots and not finding what I wanted in women's, started looking at men's. A girl that was stocking shelves called for Germaine to help me. She told me what she thought would work and after attaining my size went to the back and found two different styles for me to try in ladies boots. She was very knowledgeable and helped me get socks and liners as well. I thought I'd have to go elsewhere for those. Thank you Germaine! read more

This review is for Theisen's auto service dept. I've bought tires here on numerous occasions and now I've finally sworn them off for good. My daughter had a flat which we changed with the spare. We took the tire in and they fixed the flat and mounted it on the car. They didn't even replace the hubcap or stowaway the spare tire. They just threw it in the trunk, rather than putting back where it belongs, putting a big indentation into the tire cover. I didn't learn my lesson then and ended up going back to have them fix a tire recently that had a slow leak. This little project took more than 1 1/2 hours. I asked how they fixed it and the service guy came out and said he couldn't find a leak, so he put in a valve stem and "re-sealed" the tire. Ok, I went ahead and paid for it and low and behold the tire still leaks. I finally went to Tires Plus to replace the tire where I found out: 1) There was no wheel lock in the car anymore and 2. One of the studs on that wheel was so stripped they couldn't get the 5th lug-nut on the wheel. Stay away from Theisen's service dept! read more

Employees helpful and smiling...I came here today to look at their garden center. By far, Theisen's has the best selection of flowers and vegetables I have come across, no matter what location you go to...I went to Menards a few days prior, and their plants were small and sickly, and also more expensive. Have visited the SW Cedar Rapids store several times. I like it because it is close to home and convenient. I am not very pleased with their customer service though. I recently called the store and waited nearly four minutes for a department to pick up my call (which they never did) Inexcusable! Decided to go elsewhere for my needs. read more

I have gotten oil changes here for 2 years now. The guy who used to run the back was always super nice and never pushed hard to up sell me stuff I didn't want. Once had a tire that was leaking and called me when I had left it there for an oil change, had it fixed for me in five minutes and never had another issue. There is a new guy who seems to be running the place but just got my oil changed and it took 30/40 minutes, so I wasn't mad. I haven't had actual work done beyond the tire repair and oil change but I wasn't disappointed. read more

I understand why there isn't any vehicles in the parking lot at Theisen's any more in Cedar Rapids. The "kids" they have running the place don't have a clue on how to treat a customer. I was standing in line at the customer service counter while 4 girls wait on this cute boy. Of course, I'm an old lady but I still deserve the same kind of service. After 10 minutes, one of the girls asked if I needed something. My thought was "no I'm just standing here for the heck of it", but I refrained and said there was a sign stating they were out of kleenex and to ask about availability. She said I could get a rain check at register one. I thought okay, you would think customer service could do that, but I stood in line at register one. When I got to the register, I was told "we aren't giving out rain checks for that any longer" My thought was "any longer" this is the second day of the sale. So I walk out the door, empty handed. I got to the car and was thinking, I used to like coming to this store. I turned around and went back in and asked to talk to the Manger. So the kid got on his radio and asked Cory if he could come out of the break room for a minute. Again, I kept my thoughts to myself. I explained to Cory how I waited in line at two registers and I'm walking out of the store with nothing. I thought it would be nice to inform all of the workers when and if a product has a rain check available. The whole time, Cory was trying very hard to not laugh in my face.
