back in November before thanksgiving we were driving home doing maybe 60 on the freeway when we heard a huge BANG. That bang was my transfer case EXPLODING. With the transfer case exploding it caused my driveshaft to fall and snap. Where the driveshaft connects to the transmission there is a little knuckle. That knuckle you can't just replace, you have to replace the whole transmission. Well, we have a warranty on the car since I'm still paying on a loan for it. Mind you we were 2 hours away from home. We called for a tow and had it towed to the nearest Jeep dealership. That dealership was Thelen Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram. As I stated above this happened in NOVEMBER. I was working with a guy named Josh. He was great. Very informative and kept me up with all information and called me back within 24 hours of me calling. NEVER left me hanging for days. We both tackled contacting the warranty company and fighting with them about a new transmission since they denied it at first and said "you continued to drive the car after the transfer case exploded and the driveshaft broke". ‍‍ if you don't have a transfer case or a drive shaft how can you drive? You CANT. So I argued with the warranty company till they finally admitted that I was right and they put in for a delivery of a new used transmission. Took like 2 weeks for them to get it. They finally got it but the tech was on vacation. No big deal. A week or so later they got the transmission in.. and it was bad. Josh had to file a complaint with the warranty company and then the warranty company had to file for a warranty replacement with the transmission company. That took FOREVER. Well they received that transmission roughly 2 months ago or longer. Well Josh had left the company and my car just kept getting pushed back and other cars that came in WAY after mine, got fixed. I was calling almost every other day to get an update. I spoke with a younger gentleman that said he was working the case and said they'd get to working on the jeep that week and it would done by the following Monday. I call the following week, and spoke with a lady and she said she was now working the case.. (hmm) I said okay, and asked when my car would be done. She said the following Wednesday it would be ready for pickup. I said awesome. A week and a half later which was Wednesday I called to get an update. I left voicemails DAILY for a week. Spoke with another gentleman when they finally answered and they said it would be another week till they get it into the bay because they're working on another car. At this point they had been saying itll be done in a week for damn near a month. Finally my husband calls them and said that if it's not done by that following Friday that we would be coming up there regardless to pick it up and we'd be bring a lawyer as well. May 8th we head up to the dealership which was a 2 hour drive. We open the trunk and they have a metal bar that was part of my car and they said that it was damaged so that's why they didn't put it back on. Okay fine as long as it wasn't important. Everything looked great. Well we get home and literally have it parked for less than 30 minutes and you could see a small puddle of trans fluid under the car. We just tossed it up like it was just residual trans fluid that maybe when they were filling it up they dumped some. Well it is NOW May 22nd. It's been EXACTLY 2 weeks. There is no way it's just "residual" fluid. I have a big puddle of trans fluid under my car ONCE AGAIN. Mind you, they had my car for damn near 6 months. SIX MONTHS and there's STILL an issue because now it's leaking trans fluid. Ive called the dealership and now I'm just waiting to hear something back because if I take it to another dealership closer they will start all over again and I'll have to pay a lot more out of pocket. And the fact that all the issues weren't fixed I don't feel safe driving my car 2 hours, and I'm not paying and i shouldnt even have to pay over $400 just for a tow to get to the dealership. What started out as a great experience has turned , after being assured that certain issues with my vehicle would be taken care of after purchase , things changed and were not fully honored. Which is disappointing, I am enjoying the vehicle but now will be out almost $500.00 for issues within the first month of purchase that have arisen. The vehicle is good. But, the vehicle protection plan does not cover what I was told it would cover. Thelen has stalled me for weeks and won't cancel the policy. "The finance manager is out" was probably the oddest comment. I don't buy it for one minute that only one person can fix a problem. The extended warranty plan wasn't a Mopar plan rather it was from Protective. The policy arrived in mid-April and it didn't cover electronics. I've spoken with representatives from Protective and was told they cover sealing gaskets but not electronics. Seeing other comments about the finance managers tells me this is how Thelen operates. I should have checked these comments first before dealing with Thelen. read more

Yesterday, the finance manager at Thelen Honda, in the process of trying to sell us an extended warranty, lied and told us that the existing manufacturer warranty on the used 2020 Kia Soul with 50k miles would not transfer to a new owner, that it applied only to the first purchaser of the vehicle. Shady. The Thelen website says she's been in that job for 10 years. If her job is to sell warranties, there is a 0% chance it was an honest mistake. I'll never buy from Thelen. Too bad, too, because the car was great and our salesperson was knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful. But a coworker cost him his commission. read more

I wouldn't shop here at all. I had to return a core charge for a starter and was basically told to F off by Keith the parts manager and his employee with greasy hair. I had my receipt and all the paper work to return the core. The man with greasy hair told me I can't return the core without the original box. Yet nobody told me you have to have the original box to return a core, it's no where on my paperwork and there's no sign saying that. Its hard to believe that they would argue with a repeat customer over a .10 cent cardboard box. This place is ridiculous. When I asked to speak to someone higher up, the man with greasy hair said I would have to walk around the dealership to go find somebody. Even though the man with greasy hair wasn't busy at all and was messing around behind the counter. The dealership still is giving me the run around over this and is refusing to call me back. Chris (no last name given) was one of the most rude pompous jerks I have ever come across at a car service dept. I was given an appt to bring my car in for service and was told that there would be a courtesy car available to me. I come in for my appt and the unhelpful staff advised they had no courtesy car available. I was told one was supposed to come in on Friday, but it was Monday 4/4/22 and the car had not been returned yet. I was asked if I could be called later on to see if the car they supposedly expected on Friday would come in. I received no phone call! Tuesday I hadn't heard from service so I went over in person. I was completely ignored by the employee who said she would call. I asked to speak to a manager and that was "Chris" who rudely acting like I was bothering him advised there was no such thing as a "courtesy vehicle" and was a jerk to ME the customer. I told him I was told to come in on the date and time and that his employees are not on the same page. He didn't like that comment and insisted that all his employees are in the same page as himself. I asked for the employee who told me to come in and get a car to be brought over. She admitted I was not just making up a story but the jerk CHRIS said "that was a month ago" ! So what? If your employees can't get it straight it's on the manager! I will NEVER return to that mess of a place. I took my daughter there to look at a Jeep Unlimited as used inventory is hard to find. The staff was friendly enough but the integrity of the business can be questioned. We purchased the 2019 Jeep that was "certified" pre-owned. Had some cosmetic issues we decided we could live with even though they refused to come down in the price to address these. On the way home the radio goes out. One week later it is at our local dealer getting lifters replaced and a busted seat bracket replaced. Still have a few issues as well that our local dealer will be looking into as they said it should never have been certified and they did a poor job of covering up some of the cosmetic issues. read more

Terrible place to shop for a used van. My wife and I were told there were no issues with a used as-is Town and Country. Under two weeks later, the EGR valve was giving off a service engine code. What they did is illegal. Resetting the computer to bypass an emissions problem long enough to sell us the van. Do not go to these people unless you want to be illegally ripped off. read more

My wife and I recently purchased a 2013 Kia Sportage from Thelen Kia in Bay City, MI. After purchasing two Kia vehicles through Courtesy Kia near our old home in Attleboro, MA, we had high expectations for Kia and their dealerships. While the vehicle itself is great, the experience at Thelen Kia has been terrible. Here are our issues: 1) Thelen does not understand Kia's promotional programs. They tried to tell my wife that she could not use the military discount, despite the military program clearly stating that married spouses qualify. After educating Thelen Kia on their own promotional programs, we finally got the discount. 2) In Massachusetts, the state retains the title until they have received confirmation from the lien holder that the loan is paid in full. This information is readily available on the Massachusetts Registry of Motor Vehicles website and we clearly told Thelen that we cannot possess our title in Massachusetts until the loan has been paid in full. Thelen repeatedly called my wife to ask questions about the title and even told her to report her title missing to the State of Michigan and pay for a duplicate title. This would have been an additional expense, a waste of time, and frankly sounds illegal or at least dishonest. They ended up selling the vehicle before they paid off the loan. This leads to the next issue. 3) Thelen agreed in our contract to pay off our trade in full. After dragging their feet for nearly a month, Thelen paid $303 less than the original amount agreed upon in the contract, allowing the lien holder to bill us for an additional month on a vehicle that they had already re-sold. After weeks of fighting and involving Kia Corporate, Thelen finally agreed to repay the difference but only after a series of ridiculous excuses (such as 'we mailed the check to the wrong address...') and lies. When we called to speak with someone in finance to resolve the issue, we were transferred to our sales representative who repeatedly told us that she was in the finance department. If you are considering a vehicle in the Saginaw, Midland, or Bay City area, please go elsewhere. If you are set on a Kia, there is a dealership in Frankenmuth. Personally, I will not even take my car to Thelen for the free oil change. I would rather commit the time and gas money to driving elsewhere for Kia factory service. I would rate this experience 1 out of 10 simply because I like my Kia. The dealership is simply terrible and is engaging in practices that are incredibly dishonest and possibly illegal. AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. It's a shame I can't give them negative stars for the headache, time, and money spent here with NO fixation of the issue. Took my vehicle (which I purchased from here NEW 6 years ago) in January 2018 to fix an issue. Was told what it was and that it was under warranty and was fixed with the $100 charge I was told was a service charge. Also had them fix a faulty door handle whilst it was in for service. Quickly found out that the problem was not fixed at all. Took it back and told them exactly (AGAIN) what the problem was and under what conditions it occurred. Was told later that day that they could not reproduce the issue and was given back the vehicle. Noticed how many miles they put on it (60) and asked them where they drove it, when the route I told them I had taken is ~40 miles. Numerous people have witnessed the issue. Was told since the check engine light wasn't on there was nothing they could do. FUNNY, since the check engine light wasn't on when they originally stated they fixed the issue in January. It is now April 2018, and not only is the vehicle horrible to drive (SAME exact issue), the check engine light is on. Called and asked for a manager to call me back. Scott, service manager, called me back and immediately raised his voice and had a snarky tone with me. I asked at different points in the conversation why he was speaking to me in that manner. He never lowered his voice. I had to again explain what the vehicle was doing (same issue). He stated they could not know what was going on if the check engine light wasn't on. I stated that originally it was not on and they claimed they fixed the issue. I asked if I could bring the vehicle in on 4/16. He stated no, I could bring it the following afternoon ( I work during the day). Informed him that would not work and can't they be flexible given it is 3 months later and the issue is still not fixed and worse than ever. Stated I could bring it in 4/23. Asked if he thought this was good customer service. He acted like he was doing me a favor. Asked if I could just have my $100 back since the issue wasn't fixed and was told "I don't have a check book." My reply: you're not making sense. Zero customer service. Argumentative rather than problem solvers. Also stupid. If you had an ounce of business logic, you'd not lose a prospective future recurrent customer and their family and friends over $100 and your complete lack of caring for the safety or happiness of your customers. read more

I have never been customer of thelens, however two of my friends have and neither one was happy about it. First, I helped a friend shop for a used car, she wanted one with the Bose set of speakers and they did sound great. The car otherwise was nice and did give her decent service, she bought it happily. She got the car home , we drove it around a bit, then I saw that the speakers were branded Universal speakers, not the Bose that were in it when we test drove it. I wanted to take it back and at least report the problem, she was too shy to do so, the Universals did sound just ok, but she got screwed by someone who swapped those Bose speakers out. read more

When we bought our 2014 Suburu Forester, we were very happy with the salesman. However, when the car's display told us to change the oil, it took 2 weeks to get an appointment. Now that we need a 35,000 mile check up "immediately" as the display keeps flashing whenever the car is turned on, it took 3 weeks to get the earliest appointment. The cost of this "checkup is $400 or more and takes a ridicious amount of time to get in for service. They need a larger service department to have me buy another car there. read more

Had a good experience buying our Dodge Journey from this dealership, so when an issue arose, decided to give the service center a try. They were terrible. They installed a part wrong, and when we pointed out that it was still having issues, they broke the part that had supposedly taken 3 weeks to arrive. The second time it came in under a week, so what's the deal with that? I think I know- our power train warranty was good for a couple weeks when we brought it in the first time and they purposely ran it out so they could charge us even though they had assured us they would not. They talk real sweet when you bring your car to get checked but be very wary of anything they say. Get it in writing or they'll screw you over. Better yet, avoid this place. read more

I am a first-time car buyer, and I will not be taking my Jeep to this service again. They charged me over $100 for a diagnosis on my car that turned out to be misdiagnosed. I was there four different times in a single day to try to get my money back. They finally agreed to send me a check for the exact amount. I accepted that. However, four weeks later now I still haven't got a check in the mail. I go back in to find out what happened. Nobody knew about the check that was supposedly sent out the day of my service. Finally, someone writes a check for me and I leave with my money. I would have never received my check had I not went in today. This doesn't begin to describe the lack of customer service I received from Cody and Scott in the service department. I asked to speak with Scott, the service manager multiple times and was denied each time. He doesn't even have the decency to come out of his office and apologize for my inconveniences. I wouldn't even call the sales people/managers humans because you would have to have a soul to be human. I took three different cars to be looked at until one of them had minor repairs needed. The salesperson, Matt Coonan, said that they would fix it. When i took it in for the service appointment, I was informed that they would not honor it since apparently they lowered the price of the car even though they charged almost $1,000 above blue book. When I took the car for the inspection/test drive the window sticker said it came with a one year limited warranty. Now, my fault for not reading the fine print upon signing, but I thought they would honor their word. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!! If you ever plan on purchasing a vehicle here, take a lawyer. They fixed the body damage to my Honda fine. They also destroyed my smart key. the key costs over $100. to replace..they snaped it off and super glued it back together to "fix it". It did not work and it was useless because one couldn't replace the battery in it when it died. They always die. Then they refused to even talk to me. Not worth the hassle. read more

I moved to pinconning last year and the cost of gas was becoming expensive for my wife driving a 4 wheel drive Durango, she liked the 300 so I was looking for one about the same value as our Durango. try to make a long story short Thelen had an 05 300 in great shape, so I traded in the Durango which was in good mechanical shape but had hail damage, thats not the issue, this was July 2nd, over the weekend I smelled anti-freeze so I took it to Dean Arbour to get checked out since they were closer, they said it needed a head gasket, now they have misdiagnosed before so I took it back to Thelen to have it checked out, the service advisor,Ashley Lange, was very nice, since I purchased it there she gave me a loaner till they diagnosed it, they found intake gasket and another coolant leak which she informed the sales manager Terry Emery, he was gracious enough to cover half the repair which was all I was hoping for, after getting the car back, the wife noticed temp gauge was going up, this was a Monday and couldn't get it in till the following Friday, no problem till the next day when the shifter locked up leaving my wife stranded, had it towed to Thelen the next day, turns out it needed a shifter and a water pump, needless to say I'm ticked beyond words, again Terry went beyond what he probably was suppose to, covered half the cost and Ashley was able to get me a loaner. now comes the part that gives them a bad review, when I went to drop the car off on Friday I wanted to talk to the General Manager Mike Thelen about what was going on, I planned on doing some b***hing along with some complimenting on his crew, when we tracked him down I shook his hand and was about to explain myself, well he promptly started explaining his AS IS policy and that they are AS IS because he doesn't want to deal with them and that he didn't have a loaner for me, I'm fully aware what AS IS means but know a credible dealer would take care of a situation like this, at least that is what they advertise and I already had a loaner lined up so that only goes to show he had no clue. the car still isn't right, so I've taken it somewhere else. I know I didn't buy a new car and buying a used car is always a risk but to have a general manager with an attitude like that needs to be replaced or retrained,I don't care what the last name is and I'm sure the Thelen that started the business would feel the same way. the service department was awesome, despite my being upset Ashey Lange was very professional and Terry Emery went out of his way for me. by the way, this all happened within a 3 week period so it's not like I owned it long. read more
