We were able to get a reservation on open table. The location of the restaurant is inside the rough rider hotel. Not much advertising around. They brought a basket of sliced bread and even though it is not served warm it was very good with the herbed butter provided. We ordered the lobster Mac & cheese, the tenderloin, the pork chop, potato salad, bbq baked beans, roasted potatoes and the seasonal vegetable. Everything was very good. This restaurant is located in the historical hotel rough riders where I was staying. Apparently it's also the best restaurant in town. We didn't have a reservation so we were seated in the bar area table which I don't mind. There's only one bartender working in that whole area but he was very efficient. We told him that we had the Medora musical in an hour, he got our order in and had our dishes out at no time. We got to finish within an hour. The food is phenomenal, I had a the bison shank, it a huge chunk of meat, it falls apart. Really good portion for the price you pay, the food also comes with a salad or lobster bisque, the lobster bisque is really delicious. Highly recommend to get that option. read more

Stopped by for an adult beverage. Tried some off the bar menu: Ember Of A Rose and Lemon Thyme Late Night. Both were good. Cory was tending bar and was fun to talk to. This was a Great exit to our day spent hiking and driving around in Theodore Roosevelt national Park. We saw many bison in the park. We also enjoyed the prairie dog towns. We started with delicious old fashions. They had a small but acceptable wine selection. read more

Service was top notch. The food was very good with the exception of my Osso Bucco being overly salty. The Walleye, while it doesn't look that great in my picture, was excellent! Ambiance is outstanding. Even when the restaurant is full, you can easily carry on a conversation with your fellow diners. Word of caution: They don't take reservations, so go early if you are planning to go to the Musical. One of the fun things about Theodore's (and Medora in general), is that they recruit young people from all over the world. So the hostess who seats you may be from Poland, your server from Romania, and the bartender from Bulgaria. read more

Best Bar and Drink ever. We were traveling through and happened to go out to have a drink while staying in Medora ND. Donnie, the bartender, is the most professional, crafty and fun bartender we've ever encountered. We have traveled all over the country and have been to many many bars but we had the most pleasant experience with Donnie. He has made us Lemon Drop, Old fashioned, Apple Martini, Orange Cream Martini and all of them are incredible. It's really like a magic. He can make any drink and they are best of the best. They are not like a regular drink you order at other bars. They are really fresh and special. He makes the bar a happy place for everyone. It's like all the strangers at the bar ended up became good friends. He has a way with drinks and people. We came here two days in a row. We stayed there for a long time just because it was such a good time. Thank you, Donnie. We will come back next time we get to the area 100%! read more

If you are a couple or a pair of couples it is fairly easy to walk in and get a table. The wait staff here is welcoming and attentive, and the food was solid. I had the blackened Salmon and my wife the chicken breast. Both were moist and were sitting on rice and mashed potatoes respectively. The asparagus was perfectly cooked but the green beans could have been frozen... (supposed to come with asparagus, did they run out? No explanation given). We both felt our meats were a little over salted but that could just be personal preference. Over all a nice experience in a small town. read more

We went there for the Easter Brunch Buffet. I was sadly disappointed after spending $47.30! We got there at 10:45 so it wasn't that we were towards the end of serving. The food that they were serving was cold for the most part. The eggs, ham, and the casserole, plus the sausage were barely warm. We went last year also and great memories. Yarema is an amazing bartender. Drinks were rich and complemented dinner. Me and my husband were visiting Theodore Roosevelt National Park all day and were looking for a good steakhouse for dinner. This place exceeded our expectations. From salad to desert we were impressed. We never eat out because we cook well and my husband makes the best drinks. We had Bison Osso Bucco, Pork belly, Lobster soup and it was delicious. We enjoyed the conversation with educated, friendly Yarema and amazing drinks. read more

We were spending several days visiting the National Park at the end of June and I wasn't expecting much since the dining options in town are fairly limited. We were very pleasantly suprised with our experience with Theodore's Dining Room. We didn't have a reservation so we had to wait about 30-minutes, but we spent the time enjoying a cocktail in the bar. Dinner was outstanding! There were 4 of us and we enjoyed a Ribeye steak, T-Bone steak, Bison Osso Bucco, and Shrimp & Scallops. The service was absolutely outstanding as well. Delicious, surprisingly good for this remote location. Lobster bisque was delicate and flavorful. The Iberico pork chop had rich and subtle flavors, an abundance of salt that amplified the flavors, and perfectly done potatoes and beets accompanying it. Quick shout out to the bartender here. I didn't get his name, but hands down the best cocktails I've ever had. He told us he lives in his RV and goes from place to place depending upon the season. Makes his own menu that changes daily and it is off the charts. So a note to all of the high end resorts and clubs out there looking to get the best of the best, he is in Medora for the summer, give him a look. Now... for the restaurant itself... not good at all. We tried a few appetizers and a few menu items, garbage all around. Rare French fries, soggy Brussels sprouts, lukewarm lobster bisque, awful elk/shrimp pasta (way too salty and the shrimp may have gone bad on its way to North Dakota). This is not fine dining, not even close. I don't know what's up with the people giving such rave reviews about this place, but if you've ever eaten anywhere above the level of Arby's, you'll be struggling to stomach just about anything in here or anywhere else in Medora. read more

When I travel, I like to balance casual dining (by which I mean diners, has stations and various dives) with more upscale dining experiences where I actually shower and dress up. Though casual clothing is 100% welcome, this restaurant, I'm the lobby of the hotel, is first class all the way. My fellow diners and I each ordered Walleye or the Osso Bucco. The Osso Bucco was incredible. It was tender, extremely well seasoned and flavorful and just the perfect balance of fatty goodness. It came on a bed of mashed potatoes that soaked up the delicious sauce. It came with a delicious lobster bisque. The Walleye was heavenly. It melted like butter in your mouth and was served atop small squares of crispy on the outside, tender on the inside potatoes. A light sauce with just a hint of lemon dressed the plate and it was exceptional. Our waiter, from Bulgaria, was an expert at the art of fine dining service. He made every good thing we experienced that much better. He was polite, efficient, professional and made excellent recommendations. Restaurant management I'm restaurants everywhere could take a lesson from this young man on how to operate in the front of the house. Overall, a 5 star experience! read more

The bison osso bucco was the star of the show, and was a flavorfully rich dish - the meat was really brought out by the horseradish creme and roasted garlic potatoes. I have mixed feelings about my experience at Theodores. Server was nice, my steak was very good although $52. Salad and lobster bisque were ok at best. The atmosphere felt pretty dead and overall is was just an ok experience. I would go back if there was no other place, but Boots Bar and Grill was actually much better and half the price. read more

Best French dip sandwich I've ever had in my entire life, bar none! I have go back to North Dakota just for that.

I have eaten at the finest steakhouses in the country and I was completely blown away by the steak I had at Theodores. I was in town to visit the National Park and wanted a nice dinner and a local recommended it. Was by myself so I ate at the bar. Steak was cooked perfectly on a bed of mashed potatoes with green beans. The steak melted in my mouth. To compliment my meal, I enjoyed a selection of incredible bourbon based drinks mixed by the bartender to compliment my meal. The time and detail put into making an Old Fashioned was stunning. I judge my Old Fashionds by comparing them to what I get in Wisconsin and this was also the best I have ever had. I live in Las Vegas and when people ask me for the best meal I have ever had I tell them it is Theodores. I will be driving through North Dakota again just to eat there! read more

Probably the fanciest restaurant in Medora though the child at the next table banging his Thomas toy into the plate needed to be stopped. Other than that, the white tablecloths and linen napkins were a nice touch. I don't know if my waiter's accent was real or fake, but it did add a certain je ne sais quoi to my meal. A list of steaks (beef and bison) on the menu and some fish dishes. I'm not sure who's going to be choosing salmon in North Dakota, but sure. My eye was caught by the Bison Osso Bucco and so that's what I ordered. The Caesar salad that proceeded my meal was fine, though the croutons didn't seem hand made and I don't know why there was a wedge of tomato on there. The bread rolls were tasty and I think someone was aiming for the cheddar biscuits you might get at Olive Garden. And then my main course arrived. I was impressed. Big pieces of roasted bison in a rich brown gravy, served on top of mashed potatoes that I think were hand mashed and string beans that were just al dente. The meat was very tasty and there was a very good portion here. Totally worth the higher cost, unless steaks cooked in oil using pitchforks is your thing. read more

This is just a very cool place! Madora is a quaint little tourist town in western North Dakota, so I was surprised this place was open in the middle of November. We had a very good meal, with great service and outstanding ambience! The prices were a little high, but I think it was well worth it! Highly recommended! (It should be noted they cut back on their operating hours in the off-season so I would recommend calling ahead before you stop by.) read more
