We ate here four times during our visit to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and if that doesn't tell you how good it is, I don't know what will! lol We tried the PB&Jelly Time burger, the fish n chips, the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and the white bbq chicken sandwich - all were hot and fresh, deliciously seasoned and well balanced. We also fell in love with their french fries. They were just so good! Crispy on the outside, seasoned perfectly, and light and fluffy on the inside. They also have a ton of dipping sauces, so if you're a dipping sauce fan like I am, try them all! I absolutely loved having my cocktails served up in a giant cowboy boot glass! The food and drinks were great, the waiters were easy going and personable - the service was fast too! The inside of the restaurant is like walking into an old western saloon - They've got saddles and other horse tack hanging up everywhere, and they have wagon wheel style tables and live edge wooden tables too - so cool! Looking for a bite to eat in town and ran across Boots Bar & Grill. When you enter the restaurant you see a sign to seat yourself. You can choose a table, hi top and of course the bar. We found a table towards the back. Waitress came over quickly took our drink order and was back to take our dinner order. Waitress was very sweet, busy taking orders and bussing her tables. The fish tacos were absolutely amazing- the sweet potato fries were overcooked. Hence the four stars instead of five. My husband had the tri-tip sandwich with fries and it was delicious as well. Service was average, nothing over the top, got the job done. Definitely western theme inside with lots of tables. I had the Killdeer, which was their take on a Philly cheesesteak. The garlic aioli/sauce added a nice flavor. I do wish the steak was sliced thinner or smaller pieces, as it was tough to bite through and the entire strip would come out when attempting to take a bite. Stopped by here after hiking the park and was pleasantly surprised with the food. I got the Badlands salad and my partner got the white buffalo chicken sandwich. Both were delicious and very filling. Average American restaurant but I would say one of the best in the area compared to other establishments my boyfriend and I walked by (other places were empty). We ordered the pulled pork quesadillas (they were ok) and I had my sirloin tips with fries (4 out of 5) and my boyfriend had a burger. The raspberry iced tea was pretty good though. I've had fish and chips in countless places across the country, but their fish basket was hands down some of the best I've ever had perfectly crispy, flaky, not too much breading and seasoned just right. Locally caught walleye. Every bite was golden perfection. I also tried the tri-tip sandwich, and it was next level, tender, juicy, and packed with smoky flavor. And if you're in the mood for something a little offbeat but absolutely delicious, the peanut butter and jelly burger is a surprising hit. It sounds wild, but the sweet and savory combo totally works and left me wanting more. On top of the incredible food, the service was outstanding--friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming. Boots bar and grill is definitely a popular spot in Medora. The interior consists of wooden picnic tables and a huge bar. The service was wonderful, especially with how packed the place was. Unfortunately, they were all out of the jalapeño chokecherry jelly, so a couple of us had to change our orders. White Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. We got to Medora before the tourist season started, so lots of the restaurants were closed. Out of the places we could chose from, I think we chose well. Hubby and I shared the Pretzels & Dips - 3 soft large pretzel sticks served with beer cheese, cream cheese, and a chokeberry jelly. Beer cheese was served cold, which is not my preference. Not many places in Medora seem to be open in the evening so we thought we'd "settle" for Boots Bar & Grill. However, we were pleasantly surprised with the food we ordered. Fish basket: this one was made with Walleye and I got the side of fries and someone else got a side of sweet potato waffle fries. Fish, fries, and sweet potato fries were all so good. Especially loved the sweet potato waffle fries with the garlic aioli! Someone else ordered a pepperoni and mushroom pizza which was also tasty. There was one negative comment that I have to make. The waitress seemed so eager to rush us out. We're barely into our meal and she's already asking if we will be ordering dessert. We said we'd think about it and she comes back really quick while we're still eating and we ask if it's because the kitchen is closing or something and she said no. Medora ID is now at it's off season since the Medora Musical is over. At 6pm, all the shops are closed except for a convenience store, a gift shop, a saloon, a bar and a few restaurants. Without spending an arm and a leg, I thought Boots Bar & Grill would be a good medium. Mid prices with average reviews but I will go for it since there aren't many options around. A few things is wrong with this place and to start would be their website. The online take out is completely missing the Entree section which my husband and I both wanted to order entrees! So, I had to call them to place a take out order. I ordered the fresh grilled fish "The Walleye" and my husband ordered the top Sirloin steak. The lady on the phone told me it would be 20 mins. We walked around Downtown and realize it was a ghost town with everything pretty much closed. Ok then! Time to pick up our food.. We arrived and went up to the bar. Took awhile for someone to greet us. All the servers seemed extremely busy even though the place was not packed. Finally, someone comes up to check us out. After we paid, he pointed that our food was at a table that we passed by while on the way in. Sure enough, our meals were sitting in a bag. My fresh fish seemed frozen as well as the broccoli. Fish was hard and lacked taste inside. My husbands steak lacked taste inside. Looks and tasted like a frozen microwave dinner. Just not good. I was walking up and down the main drag in Medora, looking for a place to eat breakfast. I was drawn to the smells of morning cooking coming from Boots, and decided to give it a go despite a mediocre rating in Yelp. You'll be impressed with the quality of food and great service you get. The biscuits and gravy had an unusual, almost sweet taste, but it somehow really worked. I'd strongly recommend. As in most restaurants west of the Mississippi, Boots can make a killer breakfast burrito. And while the pancakes weren't the best I've ever had, the blueberries that we had with them were extremely fresh and addictive. The only complaint I had was with the chicken on the chicken and waffles. They kept it in the fryer a few minutes too long, and sadly it came out overdone and a little stiff. Here's the thing, though. For two adults and two kids the pre-tip bill was over fifty. That's a Grant plus for a family to eat breakfast. This ain't New York City, y'all. It's Medora, North Dakota. I get that it's a tourist town and all, but it's a tad over priced. Look, I'd still recommend it based on the quality of the food and service, and it's definitely better than the three star rating it currently has, but keep in mind that you'll need to stop by the ATM before going in. read more
