We were here for a private party so we were up on the top floor of the restaurant. The waitress who was serving our large party was the sweetest server ever. It was very chaotic with all of the people upstairs, but she made sure everybody got their order. As for the food, I did order the tri-tip sandwich as she did mention that was probably one of the most popular items. I smoke tri-tip all of the time and I feel bad rating it this way, but I didn't particularly care for the sandwich sandwich. However, my brother ordered the same thing and he loved it. When our friends from Gillette, WY visited us during our stay in Medora, we decided to try Boots. Our server was good, but the food was lacking. Our friends had the pizza, but only ate half and took the rest with them. They were going to throw it away, but we took it. The next day, we reheated it in our motorhome's convection microwave...it was OK. Quite frankly, I dont remember what we had, but it was not good. Does Medora have any decent restaurants? I dislike giving bad reviews (look at my history), but this is the best I can do for Boots and Little Missouri River. I dont recommend. Broad menu options, great post-hiking food, and fantastic service! The French dip was excellent, especially because the default is just meat/bread with dip! We both got huge piles of sweet potato fries that were cooked to crispy perfection. And the wings were also fantastic! We somehow spilled a full glass of water all over the table, and the staff instantly sprung into action to clean it up. They were so kind and quick, and really went above and beyond. We ate here four times during our visit to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and if that doesn't tell you how good it is, I don't know what will! lol We tried the PB&Jelly Time burger, the fish n chips, the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and the white bbq chicken sandwich - all were hot and fresh, deliciously seasoned and well balanced. We also fell in love with their french fries. They were just so good! Crispy on the outside, seasoned perfectly, and light and fluffy on the inside. They also have a ton of dipping sauces, so if you're a dipping sauce fan like I am, try them all! I absolutely loved having my cocktails served up in a giant cowboy boot glass! The food and drinks were great, the waiters were easy going and personable - the service was fast too! The inside of the restaurant is like walking into an old western saloon - They've got saddles and other horse tack hanging up everywhere, and they have wagon wheel style tables and live edge wooden tables too - so cool! Looking for a bite to eat in town and ran across Boots Bar & Grill. When you enter the restaurant you see a sign to seat yourself. You can choose a table, hi top and of course the bar. We found a table towards the back. Waitress came over quickly took our drink order and was back to take our dinner order. Waitress was very sweet, busy taking orders and bussing her tables. My time at Boots is always wonderful! Excellent food, excellent service, and a fun atmosphere. Their pretzel + dip appetizer is to die for!! It used to come with Bloody Mary cream cheese, too (bring that back, please.) I am also a huge fan of their Brussels sprout tacos - yum!! Highly recommended. There are not many dining options in Medora. We ordered the Ruben Egg Rolls and the Steak basket with onion rings. The Ruben Egg Rolls and the onion rings were EXTREMELY greasy. Grossly greasy! The steak is cut into strips and then fried, however they were not greasy but not flavorful. I tried the mushroom gravy that we thought came with it but there is a $2.00 up charge (not worth it) but that didn't help them taste any better so I tried ranch dressing, still didn't help so I reached for the ketchup and that helped a tad. Maybe the other things on the menu would have been better. Our meal was bad. So bad I got sick within 10 minutes of eating. Yes, it was that greasy. The atmosphere reminds me of Texas Roadhouse. Service was average, nothing over the top, got the job done. Definitely western theme inside with lots of tables. I had the Killdeer, which was their take on a Philly cheesesteak. The garlic aioli/sauce added a nice flavor. I do wish the steak was sliced thinner or smaller pieces, as it was tough to bite through and the entire strip would come out when attempting to take a bite. Ordered burgers and they were fine, nothing special. Biggest complaint is how dirty this place is. It's clear this place never gets cleaned. Windows and door are finger-printed with dried on food, menus had dried on food, tables are barreled style and you can tell they don't clean the middle part of the table that holds all the condiments and silverware--ours was full of crumbs and salt. Server wiped down tables with dirty rag. You could see the dirty bar glasses hanging in the bar. Bathroom was disgusting. No locks on stalls, wall where you dry your hands had large brown dirt stain from never being cleaned. This isn't your typical busy day and no time to clean, it's clear that the dirt has been around for a long time! Such a disappointment and does not fit in with other cleaner establishments in Medora. A/C seemed non-existent and made a loud chirping noise throughout restaurant. This place needs a serious overhaul or perhaps just a match. read more

I've had fish and chips in countless places across the country, but their fish basket was hands down some of the best I've ever had perfectly crispy, flaky, not too much breading and seasoned just right. Locally caught walleye. Every bite was golden perfection. I also tried the tri-tip sandwich, and it was next level, tender, juicy, and packed with smoky flavor. And if you're in the mood for something a little offbeat but absolutely delicious, the peanut butter and jelly burger is a surprising hit. It sounds wild, but the sweet and savory combo totally works and left me wanting more. On top of the incredible food, the service was outstanding--friendly, fast, and genuinely welcoming. We got to Medora before the tourist season started, so lots of the restaurants were closed. Out of the places we could chose from, I think we chose well. Hubby and I shared the Pretzels & Dips - 3 soft large pretzel sticks served with beer cheese, cream cheese, and a chokeberry jelly. Beer cheese was served cold, which is not my preference. But all the dips were nice. The pretzel was yummy. I opted for the Brussel sprout tacos - absolutely divine! The Brussel sprouts were charred perfectly. Drizzled with a chipotle aioli. (They are doing construction during the day, so it was loud and annoying - but temporary.) Both servers we had were great - attentive and friendly.
