    Elote dip with chips
    Shannon C.

Stopped in for lunch at a locals recommendation. The place was busy but we were seated immediately and our server was very attentive. Portion sizes were very generous but the food was mediocre. The elote dip was overcooked and the chips were on the stale side. The quesadilla were very good, chicken was juicy. The elf burger was overcooked and had no flavor. I'd give this place a solid 3.

We ate here four times during our visit to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and if that doesn't tell you how good it is, I don't know what will! lol We tried the PB&Jelly Time burger, the fish n chips, the chicken bacon ranch sandwich and the white bbq chicken sandwich - all were hot and fresh, deliciously seasoned and well balanced. We also fell in love with their french fries. They were just so good! Crispy on the outside, seasoned perfectly, and light and fluffy on the inside. They also have a ton of dipping sauces, so if you're a dipping sauce fan like I am, try them all! I absolutely loved having my cocktails served up in a giant cowboy boot glass! The food and drinks were great, the waiters were easy going and personable - the service was fast too! The inside of the restaurant is like walking into an old western saloon - They've got saddles and other horse tack hanging up everywhere, and they have wagon wheel style tables and live edge wooden tables too - so cool! Totally recommend this place for anybody visiting Medora or just passing through!

Exceptional food in large amounts. Our lunch could easily feed a family of 5. French dip is delicious. Jurassic Mac and Nachos could each feed 3 people. Our server was from Romania and was outstanding.

Looking for a bite to eat in town and ran across Boots Bar & Grill. When you enter the restaurant you see a sign to seat yourself. You can choose a table, hi top and of course the bar. We found a table towards the back. Waitress came over quickly took our drink order and was back to take our dinner order. Waitress was very sweet, busy taking orders and bussing her tables. But service was great. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich with a side salad $ 2.00 up charge, but very fresh. Sandwich was over cooked and very salty. My husband order the fettuccine Alfredo with chicken which he truly enjoyed as well as a cold beer.

Boots Bar & Grill was founded in 2009 by Morey Bang & Brad Skachenko. It's a must-stop American dining experience for all the locals & those passing through after hiking Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It's in the heart of Medora; a tourist attraction in North Dakota. They are known for a large selection of food from juicy Certified Angus Beef Steaks to burgers, homemade pizzas ... We started with a local Beaver Creek Golden Ale beer, which was refreshing. We each got a bison burger with fries. We were torn between elk or bison and we told that there isn't much of a difference in taste. Our burgers were sooo good , beer soooo cold, fries crispy perfection & Cody couldn't be more helpful & attentive !!!

    Tri-tip sandwich and fries

The fish tacos were absolutely amazing- the sweet potato fries were overcooked. Hence the four stars instead of five. My husband had the tri-tip sandwich with fries and it was delicious as well. This definitely could have been five stars. If the sweet potato fries weren't burnt. Service was great. Definitely get a side of the white barbecue sauce to dip your fries in because it's so good.

My time at Boots is always wonderful! Excellent food, excellent service, and a fun atmosphere. Their pretzel + dip appetizer is to die for!! It used to come with Bloody Mary cream cheese, too (bring that back, please.) I am also a huge fan of their Brussels sprout tacos - yum!! Highly recommended. This restaurant is a gem in southwest North Dakota!

Decent food and good service. It's a little noisy, but that's to be expected since the bar occupies most of the dining space.

Recommend beginning at TR's Tavern, a small lounge next to the dining room. It's old fashioned is a generous pour and expertly crafted. Plus the bartenders are just up front and friendly folks. So much to like about the dining room. On consecutive nights we had great meals and wonderful service, particularly from Alex! It's not over crowded and has a real rhythm to its service, although you never feel rushed. Impressive wine list that we chose from both nights. We also like the substantial side Ceasars you could add to the entrees. The bread service was very good too. Heartily recommend the duck quarters or the lamb rack, both with superb cheese grits and grilled asparagus. The favors just knock you for a loop! The blackened salmon is also an excellent choice, with the really well prepared roasted red potatoes. So creamy. The dinner salad with beef tips is almost overwhelming--skip lunch that day. The sticky toffee desert is surprisingly good-well baked, sweet but not too much. You really miss a taste of western North Dakota if you skip this place.

We returned about 6pm and this time entered through the hotel and paused at the "Please wait to be seated" sign post for about 10 minutes. The restaurant was bustling and we thought nothing about being "ignored" but my wife insisted that we walk to the main entrance and get in line. We were shocked when the front end staff found no reservations under my wife's name. Thankfully, "Shaker" had noted our earlier visit with my wife's service animal and had made a handwritten to the affect that we had a dog. Whew, crisis averted thanks to "the man", Shaker and his attention to detail! Dinner was uneventful and the service by Franco was exceptional. We enjoyed the bourbon glazed Brussel sprouts before our entrees; she had the 8 oz tenderloin and I had the osso bucco. Everything was terrific and the pace, leisurely. Since we were celebrating my wife's birthday she got a candle on her sticky, toffee pudding and I opted for the creme brulee. Fantastic experience, highly recommended.

All 3 wine options in my flight were outstanding, and we also got a mule. - the flatbread pizza! All the meats were high-quality and it was cooked perfectly. - my husband loved the BBQ blueberry meatball pizza, and it's very unique to the area. - the vegan chocolate cake- didn't even get a pic because it was so excellent I ate it immediately, and I also appreciated having a vegan dessert option Could improve: - chips & salsa were worse than anything I get from the grocery store- they tasted like straight-up Tostitos mild. For like $10 and with otherwise great food, please do better. - the service was extremely indifferent. The main guy working was alone behind the counter, with no customers when we arrived, and he didn't acknowledge us for several minutes. We watched this pattern of confusion continue with everyone else who came in- no one knew where to sit, etc. He rarely visited tables and it took a long time to even get water and menus.

Most of the seating is at the bar. The bar chairs are cushy, with backs and places for your feet. There is also a sitting area with couches. We both enjoyed our beverages and would've had another if we didn't have to hop on the road. I drank a rose from the Willamette River Valley, OR, while my hubby had a mule. For lunch, we ordered the yummy burrata with prosciutto and tomatoes as our appetizer. For our meal, we shared the chicken bacon ranch pizza. It was so good and very filling. We might have been able to eat it all if we hadn't gotten the app, but we can't resist a burrata. I recommend asking for a side of their ranch to dip your crust in. They also have a gift shop with excellent-smelling soy candles that I almost bought (but I'm on a candle freeze until I use more of what I already have) and t-shirts and coasters with fun quotes. They also have escape rooms in envelopes that I was tempted to buy, as I have never seen them.
