I'm still going to keep their star average up though because of how they handled it when i reached out after. I know the problem was the their booking system was configured wrong and matched me with someone who couldn't do it. They were nice, gave me a refund and it and promised to fix the software configuration. I wasn't going anywhere for the next couple weeks anyway. I'm sure the kid knows to just say "sorry, I can't do men's hair" next time. I don't have API access but trust her JSON object no longer returns 'mens' and they're not using XML for anything either. I'm not posting a photo of myself with a bad haircut but here's my dog Maya.

So, these folks have been doing my wife's hair for a few years and she's been totally happy, but…read moreshe doesn't Yelp and I am not going to speak for her :) And I have no hair, so my perspective is heavily influenced by how things have gone at Altered Image for my daughters, and last night, I was convinced these folks are caring, empathetic and take their craft seriously. My youngest got a color streak in the front. No idea why I spend the money on this, other than it excites her as much as Christmas morning. I am grateful I can do these types of things. My older daughter, however, had grown her hair to her butt...beautiful, wavy, full, high-maintenance hair that had become her signature. I swear other kids followed her around just to see the hair flow in the air as she walked and smell the flowery products that helped keep such tresses in check. But too much work and she decided to get it cut--a lot. Jeff counseled her during an impromptu stop on a Saturday afternoon, describing how he'd do the work and that he understood how much her hair was a part of her, her personality and that this was a scary endeavor...he eased my mind during that consult. Three days later, she was in the chair. After the shock of the first cuts--culminating is a good-sized donation for Pantene's Beautiful Lengths program--the scariness faded and a wonderful, light, bouncy cut emerged. The hair was shaped well, taken to a perfect length (accounting for hundreds of curls), and clear instruction on how to care for the new style (no heavy product push) was given through the process. I left with a very happy, very energized 13-year old who appeared to have entered a new phase of her life. Altered Image is owned and operated by great people, doing great work, with passion, empathy, a true sense of caring, and a healthy dose of fun. I may have no hair, but I'll be happy to take my girls here any time. This is the Durham I love.

I repeated what I wanted and did not want , I am not that kind of person to be unkind to people. However at the end of the process it was again what I had not asked for, completely dark. My appointment was with a new stylist, Sierra, who was personable, but several important steps in styling my curly hair after the cut were missed. My sides were over-dried and left uneven, while my crown was still wet. Product application felt minimal, an afterthought, and I wasn't shown what was used during the styling process. After the appointment, I even needed to apply a deep conditioner at home because my hair felt dry from the excessive blow-drying. More broadly, there didn't seem to be much in the way of quality control or accountability to ensure customer satisfaction before leaving the chair. When I raised concerns, I was told the only option was to return to the same stylist for corrections. That approach doesn't feel workable when the issue involves multiple missed basics and a lack of trust in the initial service.

Margaux doesn't have availability, we don't work Saturdays, and ultimately, they couldn't accommodate me. This is poor customer service. The communication is terrible and unprofessional. Not something you would expect from a place that charges $100/ hour.

I have been having my hair cut by Becca at this salon for over a year. Basic, 30 minute shampoo…read moreand haircut which always seemed to turn out ok. I decided to treat myself to color and new style right before the Christmas holiday. I am sad to report that it was a mistake. I did not catch the disaster of my coiffure until I was at home and my hair had dried. I usually do not have my hair blow dried because it has a tendency to become quite frizzy. Anyways, after my hair had dried I noticed several glaring issues: 1). The color was absolutely dreadfully done. My roots were touched up in a bright auburn red that did not blend at all into the rest of my hair. The highlights that I had asked for were rose gold-the highlights that I got were bleached blonde some thin and some thick stripes. The rest of my hair was made a dull brown. No blending or toning happening at all. 2). The haircut, completed in about 10 minutes after the coloring processing was finished, was so choppy and completely ruined any of the waves or curls that I had in my hair. It literally left me with a mullet, I kid you not. 3). No extra care for protection of my hair was taken-and it got majorly fried and dried out. I waited and debated about calling Becca to fix the situation, but I decided not to-because she had already done so much damage. Instead, I decided to go to another salon-which was an excellent decision. When I arrived at the new salon, my stylist took a full look at my hair situation for about 3 minutes without speaking. When he finally spoke his words were "I'm sorry you had this done to you." and just shook his head. "You have been given a striped mullet." I was validated. He proceeded to explain what he would need to do to repair my situation, and then gave me a wonderful haircut that involved cutting about 2 inches off my hair all around to bring it back into a workable shape. I did not chose to have the color repaired at this time as the cut was able to minimize that issue a bit. I feel sad about this situation, I did enjoy going to Becca for haircuts, and I wish her well, however, after this I cannot justify returning to her salon for any additional haircare.
