I'm still going to keep their star average up though because of how they handled it when i reached out after. I know the problem was the their booking system was configured wrong and matched me with someone who couldn't do it. They were nice, gave me a refund and it and promised to fix the software configuration. I wasn't going anywhere for the next couple weeks anyway. I'm sure the kid knows to just say "sorry, I can't do men's hair" next time. I don't have API access but trust her JSON object no longer returns 'mens' and they're not using XML for anything either. I want to flag that there doesn't seem to be a strong service recovery process in place here. My appointment was with a new stylist, Sierra, who was personable, but several important steps in styling my curly hair after the cut were missed. My sides were over-dried and left uneven, while my crown was still wet. Product application felt minimal, an afterthought, and I wasn't shown what was used during the styling process. After the appointment, I even needed to apply a deep conditioner at home because my hair felt dry from the excessive blow-drying. More broadly, there didn't seem to be much in the way of quality control or accountability to ensure customer satisfaction before leaving the chair. When I raised concerns, I was told the only option was to return to the same stylist for corrections. That approach doesn't feel workable when the issue involves multiple missed basics and a lack of trust in the initial service.

During my transition of growing my hair out I decided to wear braids and this was when I met Brittany. I had began to get my hair braided by Ms. Kandy and while I'm the chair Brittany came in and introduced herself and gave me her card and said to come see her when I was ready to wear my hair. Her sister (who is the owner of Amaka's International Hair Salon) was very nice as well. She too came in a talked me and made me feel comfortable and I felt at home. Anyways, once my hair had reached a length I was okay with wearing out, I did just that. I stepped out on faith and made an appointment with Brittany. She and her sister were so welcoming, I had to go back. I have several areas of my hair that needed some love, and Brittany did just that. She nursed my hair back to life. My first appointment she asked a lot of questions and made me feel extremely comfortable. By the time I made my appointment, my hair had grown out and I was now relaxer free and Not once did Brittany make me feel like it was impossible for me to stay natural. But instead She's always giving me good hair tips on how to maintain my natural hair in between appointments. Brittany is always polite, she's ALWAYS on time, and I'm always her priority while I'm in her chair. I absolutely love my hair and Brittany have renewed my faith in hairstylist. Their products are ridiculously expensive- I refuse to pay $60 for a bottle of shampoo, they just raised their salon prices again and with the tip I add on I am paying the same amount as a regular salon and probably would have a better experience. Are they trying to be a school or customer focused business? If it's the latter, they are missing the mark. My appointment- because my student didn't get started until a half an hour after my appointment- was almost 4 hours long-for a root touch up and trim. I'm all for supporting the students but when part of that time is them not understanding how treat a customer and prolonging a visit to ridiculous lengths it makes a customer question what is the point of going there.Also- when you check in you're supposed to sign a waiver for the services. I have done one for each time I have had an appointment. Yesterday, a woman walked in, the girl at the desk said hey X, then sat down to make a call and said "am I checked I ? The girl at the desk instructed another girl to check in X. No waiver. Come on...don't skirt the rules. If you mess up that woman's hair, the first thing she will say is "what waiver"?
